About Angela Chen
Reviews for Angela Chen
I would like to describe my visit to UCLA health and the experience I had yesterday. It was my first time going to see OBGYN Angela Y. Chen. I found out I was pregnant and needed to terminate the pregnancy. UCLA takes my insurance which is why I ended up booking an appointment there instead of my normal OBGYN. After walking in 30 minutes late, Dr. Chen started setting up for the ultrasound. I told her that my normal OBGYN said that I had low progesterone levels for this pregnancy, I asked her what that could mean exactly. Before I finished asking, she cut me off and shook her head saying "I have absolutely no idea. I wouldn't know anything until I examined you." Which made me feel a little stupid for even asking her the question. She then asked if I had gotten a prior ultrasound since finding out I had become pregnant. I responded no. She began the ultrasound, and said "WOW, your bladder is BIG, your bladder is HUGE." I didn't exactly know what she meant by the comment, so I remained silent. She made another comment about how big my bladder was, then explained that meant that I had pee in it. I responded that I had gone to the bathroom right before I had walked into the office, but I did have to go pee again, to which she responded, "Oh, you must be very hydrated then". Which is true, it was just odd that she was making comments about my bladder instead of just stating the obvious "do you have to go to the bathroom?" She then asked me two more times "Did you get an ultrasound at your OBGYN?" I responded "No" again. 5 minutes later she asked me again, and for the third time I responded "No, I did not get an ultrasound yet for this visit." Did she not believe me? Why did she ask me 3 times the same question? She proceeded to do the ultrasound and then gave me my options of terminating the pregnancy. I had originally planned on getting the D&C since it seemed easiest, but I wasn't sure. I told Dr. Chen this, and she responded with "Well I CAN put a device in you to get it out, but there will be a chance that I won't be able to get it out since you are so early." While I appreciated her explaining this to me, it was odd how she phrased the "putting a device into you", as if it was a hassle to do that option. I don't remember her exact terminology in that sentence, but she made it sound like I was in the wrong for me ever wanting the pregnancy removed by tools going inside my body. It was bizarre. I really did appreciate her explaining to me the pill would be a better option for me, which I ended up going with. But there was a little bit of odd communication on her end. We went with the pill option, and she left the office to get the oral pill and some forms I needed to sign. She returned and reviewed the forms letting me know that I needed to call her in case certain things happened, like fever or heavy bleeding. I stopped her and said "Wait, won't there be heavy bleeding regardless?" My thought process was that the whole result of taking the pill would be heavy bleeding. Dr. Chen explained that it would be like a normal period and heavy bleeding wouldn't happen. She then followed up her response by saying "I mean, you could wait a little longer until it's more developed, and then you could have a heavier period." As if that would be an option that I would want to go with. I was shocked when she said this. Clearly, this was a condescending comment to me asking a question. Why, would anyone want to wait longer for the pregnancy to develop more so they could have heavier bleeding in the termination process? Nobody would. Which is why I found it extremely inappropriate and unnecessary she would make this comment to me. Once again, she made me feel stupid for asking a basic question. I was completely thrown off by this final comment and realized after leaving the office how bizarre and inappropriate the whole visit was. I was going through a personal situation for the first time knowing nothing about the termination process a
I came in for a routine prenatal appointment. Dr. Chen was very rushed with the ultrasound, and didn't tell me everything was healthy until I asked. She also tried to push an extra test on me even though I didn't need it. She reacted to my questions as if I were an idiot - very patronizing, and responded with little thought or concern. She also talked to me as if I were a child not a grown woman. Do not recommend!
I thought Dr. Chen was amazing! She helped with my pregnancy and delivered my son via c section! She was always thorough and caring! Definitely recommend her!
I saw her yesterday, I have been having pain around my overies and begging her to do ultrasound on my overies-- but she said the ultrasound maching is not here, bare in mind that I saw her in UCLA OBGYN Deopartment....how can this facility not be equipped with a ultrasound machine--- however I asked her if she knows when the machine will be available so I could go back she said she does not know. I was shocked. She lied to me, she just did not want to do it for me. She also said you have Vagina dryness and I asked what should I do for it she did not answer nor prescribe anything, so I left and I will NEVER go back. She is very careless.
This goes back several years, so maybe she’s changed. I had a copper IUD that was poking me, making my periods miserable, and before it was inserted, I never had a vaginal infection before. Now I was getting them frequently. She was skeptical of all the symptoms I was having, told me I was getting infections from bad hygiene, and took out the IUD like it was a waste of her time. I immediately felt better and, hey, no more infections!! She was the most rude doctor I have ever met. Zero stars.
