He will refer specialists when he knows others who can treat certain ailments even better than he, and he keeps accurate and long term records so his knowledge of one’s health and family history over the years make him an astute observer of a patient’s long-term behaviors and mental acuity. His connections to hospitals, specialists, researchers, and especially developments in Covid treatment make his medical opinions sought after even within medical circles. And his bedside matter is unparalleled. More than anything, his caring honesty, his concern for a patient’s welfare, and his awareness of one’s ability to understand and process medical findings, no matter how serious, demonstrate the epitome of care.

I love when I get to see Dr. Umhau. He is an exceptional caregiver. He listens closely, wisely and treats me with genuine kindness and respect. He is the best internist I've seen over the course of my life.

My husband and I have seen Dr. Umhau for years. He takes the time to listen, to develop carefully thought out treatment plans, explain alternatives, track progress, and refers to excellent specialists, if needed. He is especially skilled at solving diagnostic challenges. We feel fortunate that he is our primary care physician. For example, today I called him about an orthopedic problem. He called a wonderful orthopedist and explained my symptoms. He made sure that I was seen and that I was on my way to health. Great experience!!
