2023 Update: nightmare receptionist & surgery set up is finally gone. After all was said and done, they finally fixed my billing and they owed me $1000. Got it back too. 2020 Update: Incredible doctor I’ve seen for 7yrs now! Dr Alavi 5 STARS! He takes time to listen to his patients. He also respects your goals. Like mine, a Mother of 2, that wants to function basic things in life. He doesn’t judge. The staff. Ugh! The receptionist can be nice, I’ve seen it. She’s horrible to us. We don’t get return calls. Meds aren’t being called in after visits. It’s exhausting. Staff can be a hit or miss (lately a big miss 2018/19) but when patients complain about no return calls, guess who’s out of a job. So glad Michelle is finally gone. What a nightmare she was! 2020 Update- Billing: They are now refusing service to me, a Chronic Pain Patient! My bill is over $3k YET we discovered they weren’t billing my Medicare AT ALL!!! They were only using my husband insurance BCBS. I don’t have a problem paying a bill, but come on!!! It’s such a nightmare.

Office manager that has been here since august is the absolute worst lady we have ever dealt with - the lady is unpleasant and rude - dr alavi is wonderful but this front staff is horrible - if you need something, be ready to drive to the dr office because they don’t return calls - stay away

Dr Alavi is great. His office staff, not so much. They don’t answer the phone. If you do get to talk to someone, they will take a message and you never get a callback. And don’t bother to leave a message on the recording, you won’t get a callback. I don’t like to say any thing bad about his PA, she is great..when she is there. She is either running late or out for some reason. The last two months she was not there for my appointment and I really needed to talk to her.

He is an amazing Dr. Cares to help and as I am a complex case, I greatly appreciate his willingness to partner w me about next steps. He’s had a lot of staff growing pains. It’s getting better but it is the only con.

The most Incompetent, rude, unprofessional staff I’ve ever seen. They never answer the phone and when they do, Bookie is who you’ll speak to and the first face you see when you walk in. Dr Alavi is a wonderful dr However his staff is HORRIBLE, rude, unprofessional, dismissive, incompetent, aggressive, vindictive! One person in particular is Bookie. Under dr’s orders I came in to drop off a urine sample before my actual procedure in Plano. Bookie was dismissive , rolling her eyes at me, unwilling to listen and cooperate, I took matters into my own hands. I took a urine sample myself. As I turn to leave, she says “I have a 15k outstanding balance she’s canceling my procedure appointment” I didn’t two days ago’s. How can I suddenly? I contacted Ins. it wasn’t 15k but did have a balance, because THEY never updated one of my ins. companies. Myself and ins. spoke to BOOKIE and their billing dept several times for resolution. Bookie won’t give us pertinent info And keeps sabotaging resolution to this day. I have proof of this from my ins. I hope he becomes aware of ALL before his reputation and practice is completely ruined PS he just resigned from being my DR

WORST “Doctor” AND staff! Doctor suddenly dropped all patients w/o insurance, leaving us scrambling to find a new doctor, and REFUSED to provide ANY medication during the transition. His staff are the WORST, as they seemed amused by the fact that he was allowing us to suffer, even though he is SUPPOSED to provide us a 2 week prescription because the medication instructions even say not to suddenly stop taking it. BAD doctor. Cut off self-pay patients abruptly, refused to give me even a partial refill on my meds to get by while finding a new doctor, causing excruciating pain to return and spikes in blood pressure. His office staff is unbelievably rude & inhumanely disrespectful. Chronic pain patients are NOT addicts, (addicts are incapable of complying with doctors orders & abuse drugs, while CPP’s do comply & CAN control our medication use/follow doctor orders) we merely have physically painful illnesses! We deserve dignity & respect.

He gets a star for being able to do procedures. I was a patient for 8 years, and he got me on an insane amount of pain meds and muscle relaxers (Soma) that I couldn’t get anywhere else. When I became too high of a risk with all of the new laws, my labs came back totally falsified. I’d love to say it wasn’t intentional, but when I pointed out that it had the wrong patient meds, and all of my meds were negative, I was let go for cocaine and THC! My ride was a pharmacist and pointed out a chemical found in smokers, and he knows I don’t smoke! After 8 years, he should know me better and at least question it! When I pointed it out, I was told “You are no longer a patient. We can’t help you.” and the glass window was closed. He left it to a PA to tell me. I was “warned” and came back 2 weeks later, confident that the urine test would prove the lab error. I was told that it tested positive for methadone with a dip stick test, and dismissed. I went to an independent lab and had a urine and hair sample tested on the same day; everything but my prescription meds came back as negative. Dr. Alavi never spoke to me about any of this! He made me deal with his PA. He either didn’t care about a patient of 8 years, or wanted to get rid of me due to being on over 120mg of opioids. He worked under at least 5 different practices/ groups while I was there, and lost the ability to give trigger point injections at his office. I asked for permission to get only those from another doctor, gave him his card, and permission to talk to him. When I got my medical records from Alavi (he only had 2 out of the required 7 years), he wrote about telling me not to see other doctors! Straight up lied - and didn’t mention discussing my procedures at my next visit afterwards. I think he quickly typed notes to cover himself, and forgot legitimate conversations. Don’t waste your time unless all you want are drugs. I’m on 30mg of opioids now, and functional. I went through a medical detox to get off Soma too. No other doctor would touch me while I was taking it!

Rude, condencending scheduling person. How does this doctor have any business when his recepitonist is a in-compassionate robot?

My Mother has been coming to this office for approximately 6 years for pain. The doctors and nurses practitioners are professional and caring. The office staff has been a different experience for me. I have, numerous times called and left messages with never a return call. Never. I have questions or need a confirmation on an appointment and I never can reach anybody. Mother had a procedure done a year ago, and they gave her a scheduled date. We waited for several hours at the scheduled appointment before we were told there was no scheduled appointment. I have been seeing Dr Alavi for years to manage pain of several items: migraine, sciatic, nerve issues, back pain, fibromyalgia, plus pain from shattered wrist surgery and from rebuilding both of my feet. I would highly recommend Dr Alavi. He is professional and offers many options and forms of treatment. His nurse practitioner is always great to work with. My only complaint is the front office staff. Some days they are helpful but most days they are on the rude side and dismissive. I don't know if they are overworked/understaffed/burned out or what causes this behavior. They may have a lot of rude people to deal with since patients are in pain. However, this shouldn't be an excuse to treat people with a lack of respect, empathy and kindness given their chosen profession and place of employment. *Beware* pill mill turned shot and procedure mill. Dr Alavi has stopped caring about his patients and care only about making money. Drastically reducing medicine to force patients to have procedures and “offering” other UNSOLICITED therapies such as massage, and vein specialists that suggest to immediately go have more tests and more procedures. When you tell the Nurse practitioner the procedures don’t work they don’t listen. Is it possible there is ANOTHER PROBLEM? A new nurse practitioner will see you everytime and is even more heartless as the next. Oh yeah and they bill for things that weren’t done. If you want to waste time and money this is the place to do it.

Dr. Alavi, was my pain management DR. for several years. I feel the level of care I received was extremely good. He always listened to me and was very focused on me and how he could help. I never felt rushed, or that I was just a number. He provided me with a couple of different procedures, rhizotomy and various injections over the years and I always benefited from them. Dr. Alavi has been my doctor for almost 8 yrs, and I would NEVER choose to see anyone else. I have dealt with chronic pain issues , since I was a teenager and now I am 52. He is the 1st doctor to really listen to my issues and give me ALL options to help relieve my pain and give me a better quality of life! He truly cares for his patients and it’s not about just giving out prescriptions, like so many other doctors I have seen over the past 35-+yrs: When needed, he thinks out of the box, to find the best procedures, therapies, medications (if YOU choose) and goes above and beyond to make sure his patients get the care they deserve and need. Some people have claimed that phone calls are never returned, and that is just NOT the case. Yes, sometimes it is difficult to get the phone answered, because of the many patients in the office, who need them & deserve to get the time reserved for them by appointment, but I have ALWAYS received a call back, when I have left a message!! He’s the BEST!

I am 53 and have had chronic pain in several places, since before I was a teenager. Once Inhad my son 32 years ago, things progressively got worse and I had to stop working in 2008. We spent so many years without insurance , so I’ve been through my share of doctors. Thank God I found Dr.Alavi!! I have been with him for 7yrs now and he does absolutely ANYTHING he can , to help his patients, no matter what time of the day . He is patient, welcomes questions and explains EVERYTHING you need to know, about what he is doing. He is very picky about his staff and how they treat his patients. I have worked in the er and in a doctor’s office and I can testify he is ONE OF A KIND!! I have had several procedures every year and if any new procedures or devices come to his attention, that he thinks could help you, he will bring it up asap!! I can count the number of times I’ve had to wait more than 15 mins in the waiting room on 1 hand.. which is extremely rare. He always asks that you be patient, because if he has a new patient, who has slot of questions or concerns, or someone who needs more time to decides what to do about something going on , he gives them that time and will do the same for you, should that time come. He is NOT one of the typical doctors I have worked with or been a patient or, that just takes his time between patients, or indulges a drug rep., if there are patients to be seen.. and honestly, he is one of the 1st out of the many I’ve seen over the years. I would recommend anyone who is in pain, to try Dr. Alavi!! I trust him and his judgement with my life!! He does procedures at several places and sometimes they change frequently, but when they do, it’s because they are not doing or giving his patients the best and most economical care, which makes some unable to get the care they need. He is highly respected by everyone he has worked with... Yes, I ask questions at every surgery center, to see how their opinion is and he has had excellent comments by every single person I have talked to. He is the most calming and patient doctor and a seemingly very loving husband and father... even takes his kids to school, when he can make it work for his schedule. You cannot get any better, when it comes to someone who understands and genuinely wants to do whatever he can, to make your living situation better.. and not just by giving pills out like some of the pain doctors we have all heard about on the news. Be honest with him and his staff and you will get the same from them. That is the ONLY way you can really get the care you need for whatever pain situation you are experiencing. I cannot say enough good things about De. Amir Alavi.. highly recommend to everyone I know, and will ALWAYS back him up. As one of his longest patients, after he went out on his own, I have seen him grow and he really is someone who cares about what you are going through!! And as far as procedures go, I’ve had years where I was having 10-14 a year and he always made sure I didn’t feel any pain during the procedure.. honestly, you’re already awake and think you haven’t had it done yet, it goes by pretty quickly. Trust me, alive had to deal with so many doctors, and when pain is the main concern , I have had many accuse me of being a drug seeker and thankfully, while working in the ER many years ago, I had doctors watching me on the night shift , because they could tell, when I was having a had pain day, as soon as I walked into work. They figured out pretty quickly that I wasn’t faking. I understand the scrutiny from working the ER, because there seemed to be more drug seeking people, than those who really needed help and meds.. they don’t teach that in med school. Even though the staff is "apparently" to busy to answer and return calls (which is very frustrating) I will not change Dr's because Dr. Alavi is the most attentive and concerned Dr. I've ever had. He's very professional yet concerned and helpful.

Has been my pain management Dr. since my major neck surgery. Takes the time to talk to me about when and what causes my pain. And now we are working on weaning me off of the pain killers except after physical therapy, traveling for work (hotel beds and Pillows are crap), the occasional round of golf with my new easy light swing.

Dr. Alavi was the most amazing doctor I’ve ever seen. He’s a great listener, he’s calm and attentive. I seen him for 3-4 years. I appreciate him very much.

Terrible staff. Never answers phone calls rarely returns them. Doctor never touched my back to feel what was wrong with my back during visits with. Messed up medication a few times.

I've had 2 other pain management doctors and he has been the only one that has actually listened to me about the pain that I'm in. I actually see him at every vista unlike the first one I went to that I saw the first vista and then never saw him again. All I saw was the nurse with the Rx refill that never asked if they were working. Dr. Alavi is a favorite Dr. of mine. His bedside manner is calming & very professional. He's been a Dr. of mine for approximately 4.5 years now. He's been able to give me some relief from my back pain. I would highly recommend him for any pain issue.

Since 2012 I have been suffering with several herniated/bulging disks and 1 ruptured disk. I have been seeing Dr. Alavi since then with the exception of one year. The ONLY reason I didn't see him is because my employer changed insurance companies and he didn't accept the new insurance. During that time I had to see other Pain Management Doctors. That was the worst year of my life, trying to find a Doctor that could fill Dr Alavi's shoes. NONE of them could!! The saying is true... you don't know what you had until it is gone. I FINALLY was able to change insurance companies and immediately made my way back to Dr. Alavi. Dr. Alavi GENUINELY cares! He attentively listens to his patients and takes the time to explain the details of your medical issue(s) and his plans to relieve your chronic pain. I have been a patient of Dr.Alavi, for the past 6 years! He and his staff are the most compassionate and caring individuals, that I have encountered, over the past 30+ years of suffering from chronic pain. He always takes time to answer each and every question you have, even if you're the last patient of the day. It isn't very often, that you have to wait very long to see him, when you arrive for an appointment. If you do occasionally experience a delay, it's usually only because he is making sure the patient he is seeing at that very moment, is getting all the answers they need and deserve. Rest assured, that you will also be given that same extra time, if you have more questions or concerns than usual. He is always consulting with other colleagues, to explore all options available to help his patients. If you have ever had procedures done in outpatient facilities, it is rare to hear nurses and patients talking about the good doctors out there, but everyone who I've encountered, who has worked with him, praise him for how he treats everyone as family. I am honored and privileged to award him 5 stars!! I can say firsthand, that every nurse, Anesthesiologist, receptionist, medical assistant and patient, that I've talked to, have had nothing but positive things to say about him. Many healthcare workers, who have treated me during procedures, have confided that they too have been treated by him. Now if THATS not a true vote if confidence, I don't know what is!!! Dr. Alavi has been my pain doctor for several years now. Not only is he an excellent and knowledgeable doctor, he is also a very compassionate and caring person as others have said. We've come a long way together and even though I still have a lot of issues, my pain is under control. He will listen to you and plan your treatment according to your goals and adjust as you go if the financial end gets to be too much. Insurance premiums, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, etc. keep going up and up and Dr. Alavi understands that and will plan accordingly. He has never once recommended an unnecessary procedure for me as other doctors have done in the past. Dr. Alavi has overmedicated a relative to the point that she is addicted and misusing her pain medication. Who needs 180 Percocet a month while being prescribed Ambien, Xanax and Dilaudid? We complained in May of 2017 expecting him to take some responsibility to "first do no harm". He did not comply. So 8 months later my relative is delusional, incoherent, clumsy and unaware of her surroundings. She refuses to get the help she so desperately needs because she doesn't know she has a problem.

Dr. Alavi has been instrumental in helping me to deal with fairly debilitating, chronic discomfort. His manner is professional and soothing and his knowledge, outstanding. He, and his team are on-time, courteous and thoughtful. My quality of life has improved exponentially, due to Dr. Alavi's care. I am honoured to recomend him.

Just had a procedure done by Dr Avali on Sep 16, 2016 and I think he is the best doctor there is to help with the problem I have suffered with for over five years. He is very caring about what was going on about my problems, and giving me the best options for less pain with my body. Nancy G

I feel very comfortable with Dr. Alavi and the decisions he makes and procedures that he suggests and performs. My husband has been seeing him for over a year, and I just recently started seeing him in order to try to prevent having another spinal surgery. He listens and truly cares about his patients.

Dr. Alavi is a very caring and compassionate doctor. I can't say enough to express how good it is to have a doctor spend time with you and really listen to you and help you through whatever you are there to work with him on. I would highly recommend him and his practice.

He listens and responds to questions and concerns. He doesn't make me feel he is rushing to get to the next patient. He is very thorough when explaining the options and possible outcomes.
