I saw Dr. Chen today for the first time. He came into my appointment prepared and had already read the MRI, and notes from previous doctor. I also loved the fact that he shook my hand and firmly introduced himself. He diagnosed me immediately after a discussion and exam. Before him I saw 3 other doctors outside of UCLA. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Chen and would definitely see him again and recommend him.

I have had sever neck pain for 50 years due to roll over accident in truck with no seatbelts. Dr Chen was able to take that pain away and I am almost speechless. It’s hard to say hair much this means to me. I understand the process may need to be repeated because the nerves may grow back. This does not matter to me. I am pain free NOW for the first time in 50 years. Thank you to Dr Chen and your entire office and surgery team.

Dr. Chen and his team are fantastic. Dr. Chen gave a very personable and thoughtful analysis of my condition. He factored in all aspects of my daily needs and the history of my pain. Dr. Chen educated me on how my lower back pain was caused and how it could heal on its own. He was very honest in recommending that I don’t do any injections or surgery but rather worked with a physical therapist to see results. Dr. Chen provided a great referral with clear instructions for any PT of my choosing to follow. Dr. Chen remains a resource for me if anything changes with my condition or if I have any questions. I am lucky to have him on my care team!

Dr. Chen is very knowledgeable and truly takes the time to explain conditions thoroughly. He is timely, accurate, and informative. He also offers several different types of treatments to help treat pain and is an expert at a wide range of procedures. He is at the top of his field and is often asked to lecture around the world on a wide range of topics. I felt very lucky to be able to meet him. He is an excellent physician and I would refer any of my family to him.

I met Dr. Chen for severe lower back pain. He was very knowledagable, kind and very friendly. He explained my treatment options in clear terms. I highly recommend Dr. Chen to other patients.

Dr. Chen was able to see me on schedule, and efficiently examined me to address my sciatica and herniated disks. He gave me injections two years ago, which provided excellent, though not perpetual, relief.

Dr. Chen is extremely knowledgeable and gifted. He performed a nerve ablation at C2-C3 and my headaches/pain disappeared for much longer than expected. I was able to start swimming soon after the ablation which has improved my overall health. If you are considering seeing Dr. Chen, feel confident he will guide you in the best way possible.

Dr Chen has been so great over the past year in helping me to diagnose my hip/IT band issues and moving forward with treatment. He is both capable and communicative. I have already recommended Dt Chen and my friend and her family also were very impressed and happy with his treatment. He is a brilliant diagnostician, doesn’t do unnecessary or irrelevant tests or treatment and gets right to the heart of the issue. Unfortunately I have a hip not spine problem so I will not be seeing Dr Chen as regularly as I would like, but It’s been a great experience.

Dr. Chen helped me solve a decades-long back pain issue (scoliosis-related joint pain) after reams of other health care providers could not. He is very professional, thorough, and genuinely cares about you as a patient. Highly recommend paying him a visit (if you can get into the office, he's very much in demand)!

Dr. Chen saw me shortly after I injured my back (within a very few days), took the time to understand my issues, injury and pain and made the perfect diagnosis. In addition, instead of having to wait to schedule an appointment with a back surgeon, Dr. Chen immediately got one of his colleagues to see me so that we could move forward with next steps instead of waiting weeks for a followup appointment. As a result, I will be getting my back fixed in less than 2 and a half weeks after the injury. In addition, Dr. Chen was incredibly personable, relatable, and explained what was going on with my back in a way that made it easy for a non medical professional to understand. I will absolutely be going back to Dr. Chen with any orthopedic issues I have going forward. I wish I had met him years ago when I first injured my shoulders. He is an amazing physician and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone in my family or any of my friends.

Dr. Chen was professional, informative and incredibly clear when discussing my lower back condition. I REALLY appreciate the fact that he "shot from the hip". He didn't try to tip toe around physical therapy, anti-inflammatories or epidurals like doctors I've visited in the past. He straight up said, "I can give you an epidural or muscle relaxers for the pain, but it isn't going to solve the problem. You need surgery." This is a problem that I've been wanting to have corrected for 25 years and thought I was going to have to persuade him that I wanted this taken care of once and for all. He immediately got me in to see the surgeon and I had my procedure a month later. 5 months later, and so far, feeling SO much better. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had Dr. Chen taking care of me and HIGHLY recommend him for anyone with spine conditions looking for honest solutions.

Original consultation he listened gave recommendations for further diagnosis. Follow up to testing, reviewed mri and goals I have, layed out a non surgical treatment process, with a surgical solution only as a last option if goals are not met. ??

I suffered with back pain for over 50 years. I went to many doctors and had many therapies at Kaiser Permanente before I changed insurance companies. I was then referred to Dr. Chen. After discussing my options he performed a nerve ablation and as a result I have been pain-free. He and his staff are wonderful and I am so unbelievable grateful to them. He not only is a brilliantly skilled doctor, but very engaging. He explains everything, every step. From the diagnosis through the procedure he kept me aware of what was happening and the chances of what my outcome would or could be. No unfulfilled promises, just accurate information to keep me in the “know.” He is always sympathetic to my situation and not condescending or dismissive. Again, I’m just so very thankful that he is my doctor.

Honestly it was one of the best visit I had with a doctor. He took the time to show my the scan, walked me through and explain options with pros and cons on each one. Walking out of the office I knew what to do as the next step and mainly because Dr. Chen took the time to educate me on my options. Very good experience with the office and the doctor.

I had a great experience. I had surgery for a herniated disc with a different doctor and was still experiencing pain, so came to see Dr. Chen twice for his opinion. On both visits, I was seen exactly on time - no wait whatsoever. Dr. Chen was personable and (most importantly) very knowledgeable. He took the time to really listen to my situation/issues and then took the time to fully answer every one of my questions, without making me feel rushed. He explained my options and we agreed on a course of action. I had a very positive experience and would highly recommend Dr. Chen, even over the "high profile" surgeon who helped me previously.

Strong recommend. I went to Dr. Chen with excruciating back pain and he turned things around for me. He first helped with non-opioid pain management (very important to me) which got me to a better state, and then an epidural steroid injection. Needless to say I wasn’t excited about a needle in my spine, but Dr. Chen stood out with his total clarity about the procedure—including whether or not I should do it— and then once we decided to move forward, I was in great hands. I always knew exactly what was happening and felt comfortable throughout (as comfortable as you can having a needle in the spine). The UCLA facilities and other nurses and docs were top notch as well.

Dr. Chen completely fixed my bad neck! With a reasonable approach and wonderful bedside manner I felt better within a few days. Thank you!

Dr. Allen Chen is an outstanding physician. Thorough and listened to me. He did not treat my MRI as another physician was doing and I wasn't getting better. I am now off opioids and feeling much better after a different neck injection. I would absolutely hands down recommend him for care.

Dr Chen and his team are right on when it comes to diagnosing where pain is coming from and getting rid if it. Dr Chen performed rhizotomy at my left C2-C3 facet joint level...all pain in left arm has disappeared since procedure. I still have more pain management decisions to make, i.e., right arm pain, etc. and Dr Chen will be my first choice. Great doctor!

A bit of a wait, and had to see his fellow first, however overall happy with my visit. Dr. Chen and his fellow explained everything clearly, and gave me a clear understanding of treatment options

Dr. Chen was super nice and took his time explaining everything to me. His staff was so helpful and I was seen in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr. Chen.

Dr. Chen has a wonderful way with patients. He had me feeling confident and secure that my concerns were being heard, evaluated, and would be addressed. This is precisely what occurred and I'd be most willing to recommend him to any one who needs his care.

Dr Chen knows what he is doing. He did not rush me into getting the epidural injections, but when it became clear that it was the logical next step, he explained the procedure in detail, put me at ease and performed the procedure flawlessly.

I am very pleased I met with Allen Chen M.D. on Monday, June 25, 2018. He was extremely focused on my situation. He put me at ease with his knowledge and familiarity with my condition, offering salient advice on moving forward. He articulated everything in a simple and caring fashion.

Dr. Chen is very capable and a considerate person. I had a painful back condition and he successfully relieved the pain by deadening the responsible nerve in a 20 minute procedure. An excellent alternative to back surgery when the goal is to relieve pain.

My experience with Dr Chen was excellent. I had been experiencing recurring back pain and was able to get my first appointment within a week of calling. He diagnosed the problem, recommended a course of treatment and treated me within the next three days. The results have been very positive. For the most part, my pain has been eliminated and movement restored. He explained very clearly what the issue was and the treatment options. I would highly recommend him to anyone who has back issues.

Dr. Chen pinpointed my problems and explained what could be done to find solutions. Very straight forward and I would highly recommend him.

I visited Dr. Chen with lower back issues. His mannerism, approach, bedside manner and especially level of knowledge was not only impressive, his findings and treatments were spot on. I felt I was in good hands and could absolutely trust his, in my opinion very honest and forthcoming medical advice. I would and have already highly recommended him to others who have back issues.

I have suffered from back pain for more than five years. Dr. Chen was very professional and genuine in his explanation of his services. He puts you at ease in explaining your whole process of treatment from beginning to end. I would highly recommend him and his assistant Geona who also goes above and beyond to make you deel comfortable during your visits and helping you with navigating through medical insurance documents.

Dr. Chem was very positive and upbeat during both of my visits. This gave me hope that my back pain would not be a hinderance to my daily activities. He was thorough and answered all of my questions. I did like the fact that he didn't automatically want to do any invasive treatments. Therapy was his prescription and it worked.

Dr. Chen is awesome! He's very personable and knows his stuff, never rushes you. I always look forward to seeing him. You just know you're in the best hands with him and it's as though you've known him forever. I love that in a doctor.
