Dr. Speciale was my husband surgeon for his lumbar fusion. Everything turn out to be a success.

Dr Speciale operated on my lumbar spine in the midst of the pandemic when only emergency surgery was allowed. My condition quickly deteriorated and he was able to advocate for me me and was permitted to perform emergency lumbar discectomy and remove a ruptured cyst from my spine. He was compassionate and an expert in his field. No complications, easy recovery and I did not need much pain medication following procedure. I would highly recommend him and if I have another problem he will be my first choice. I had only met him on zoom visits and first met him in person in the pre-op area yet being an RN I had full confidence in him due to his knowledge and compassion on the phone.

Two virtual visits, the first he was 3 hours, 38minutes late and called when I was getting ready for work and unavailable. Setup another appointment a week later this time after work and 3 hours, 15 minutes later he still hasn't responded. This doctor needs to be more professional and communicate with his staff to schedule correctly and communicate with patients when the schedule is broken.

I would like to leave a positive review and I’m sure he is a great doctor but his office staff are not so great. I waited for over a month to get a first appointment and never received a reminder call so I called this morning and was told I don’t have an appointment, what the heck. I give up and will go somewhere else for care!! Sorry Dr. Speciale but you need to do something about your staff.

Dr. Speciale is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He has taken care of my mom for years and our entire family has been impressed by his bedside manner, compassion, and knowledge base. He is always available when we have questions and we trust him implicitly. We would highly recommend Dr. Speciale to anyone suffering from back pain.

I called for an appointment to see dr specile. I arrived and was seen by his pac. ( no doctor ) I informed him of a previous surgery to my lower back, he ordered an mri. I called for the follow up and requested dr. Speciale see me. Again I arrive and the pac was there to see me. ( no doctor as requested ). The pac looked at the mri and informed me in his seven years of schooling as a future pac that he recomends i not get operated on. I then asked him isn't that for the doctor to decide. He said he decides for the doctor. I then proceeded to ask questions about the mri , his exact answer was , i don't have the time to answer any questions. I got up , collected my papers and said , if there is a doctor speciale ( i believe there is no doctor speciale). This place is after money , money , money. I went with Dr Speciale for my spinal fusion surgery because of his exceptional bedside manner and his ability to listen to my questions and concerns and respond to every one of them. As soon as my wife and I met him at the first appointment, I knew he was the right surgeon for me. I had a bad experience with a surgeon from a previous surgeon and it was important to me to have someone who had an exceptional bedside manner and calm demeanor. He and Phillip (PA) have given me great treatment at every visit since. I couldn't recommend someone higher than I do Dr Speciale. He has been my surgeon for many years. He’s kind and compassionate and I’m so thankful he is my surgeon. He actually listens and wants what’s best for his patients.

I'm recovering well from a ACD. My scar is already all but gone. Pros: Dr. Speciale is calm & experienced, explains things well, spends time with you, honest about diagnosis/prognosis, and very good at his job! Cons: His PA has zero personality and though he's professional (I'm sure good at his job), he's a pain to talk to and acts bothered by questions and in a hurry. The front desk staff should learn to smile & be kind! we're not exactly having fun being there either AND we're freaked out.

Great bedside manor. Always shows care and concern

I too feel the PA and Dr.Speciale to be all about the money and not the patient. After a crippling surgery I too was told there was nothing they could do and felt they just wanted to get rid of me, if I wasn’t interested in another surgery on my cervical spine. I would never recommend anyone with back pain to go near this place, go to a spine specialist not an orthopedist that operates on any part of your body. I hope this review will save at least one person from suffering the crippling pain and lack of mobility that I suffer. I too feel the PA and Dr.Speciale to be all about the money and not the patient. I received all the attention and care I needed to get through a very painful and debilitating injury. Sometimes the wait is long, but that's because every patient gets the time they need and he can fall behind. The Nurse Concierge is awesome!

Dr. Speciale performed a LLIF spinal fusion on me I June 2017. I am a week after surgery and have yet to need any kind of pain medication. Excellent surgeon. Great bedside manner. I did my research and his name kept coming up. Easy decision for me. I travelled over 3.5 hrs one way to have Dr. Speciale perform my surgery.

My mother was in to see Dr. Speciale's PA today (6/6/17) so this review is really about his PA and not Dr. Speciale, although he works for/in this practice, so it is relevant. My mother is 73 years old and now weighs under 100 lbs. She has had severe pain centered at the top of her rib cage for approximately 2 months. Prior to this pain she had begun losing weight. Blood tests ordered by her primary care doctor came back clear. According to her primary care doctor and a pain specialist an MRI showed spinal stenosis with nerve damage, which was believed to be causing her pain. She scheduled a pain relief shot, which did not work, and continued to lose weight. I made an appt. for her at this practice because a friend of mine, who is a nurse, recommended them. My mom was alone for her appt. My father, who is 80, and uses a scooter, waited for her. The PA, showing no empathy, no kindness, no gentleness said matter of factly, "It's not your back. I can't help you. Has anyone thought of cancer?" That was it, end of conversation. No reason why he thought this, no referral or suggestion about a specialist. No, "I hope it isn't this, but in case it is, here's someone for you to see." How cruel and inhuman. That PA should really think about why he went into the medical profession because his care of and attention to my mother was nothing short of cruel. He should be ashamed of himself. I will tell everyone I know to stay away from this practice and I will share my mother's experience with the friend that referred us there. It breaks my heart to picture my tiny, ill mother, scared out of her mind, sitting there alone, listening to this heartless PA tell her in a cold as stone tone that she may have cancer. I know her only thoughts were who will take care of my dad (her husband) and who will take care of her beloved dog. For this cruel treatment that PA will never be forgiven. I reviewed with one star because I am forced to but really there are none. Dr. Speciale is an excellent Doctor and has a wonderful bedside manner. He took a lot of time explaining the procedure and was very clear and thoughtful during all our visits. After just a few weeks post surgery I was feeling like a new person.

I am very pleased with the surgery that Dr. Speciale. Today marks 5 weeks and I feel great. Five months ago I fell down 13 steps and broke my back in 2 places, my breast bone and my ring finger on my right hand. Today I am out of my upper brace and have literally little pain. The attention to my physical needs were met 110%. My hospital stay after surgery was very good, I was well taken care of by Dr. Speciale and his assistant Phil. The hospital staff was truly genuinely caring too!
