About Dr. Albert A Cook
Reviews for Dr. Albert A Cook
I went into see Dr. Cook (as he was the only Neuro I could find without multiple month wait list) for migraine daily I had been having since mid January. He took the diagnosis of the oral surgeon about migraines as end all be all then spent 30 minutes telling me about "how when he was a younger man, he had to poop to get rid of his headaches". Totally dismissed my concerns about other symptoms I was experiencing. He didn't even prescribe me medicine but advised I "steal" some of my husband's rizatriptan to "try out" and call him if it worked and he will call in some. While sumatriptan and rizatriptan get rid of the headache for the day it comes back the next day and causes some very unpleasant side effects, additionally I can't take it everyday (which he himself stated). I also asked for office visit notes for my records and there were several incorrect things on it that were inaccurate/misleading which I asked them to correct. I have sent both emails and phone calls no response.

Wasted over 30 minutes of our 50 minute visit telling war stories and talking about his career and my field of study. Was very dismissive of the reason why I needed to see a neurologist- I was assaulted and he asked why I didn't hit my attacker with my backpack (???). Referred me to get a CT scan and didn't know what millisieverts were (standard unit of ionizing radiation dose). Told me that the head scan I would get is a similar amount of radiation exposure as a chest x-ray (not true- it's about 5-10x the exposure of a chest x-ray, look it up yourself). Don't waste your time, there are other great neurologists in the area. I was surprised by his unprofessionalism and lack of knowledge given he's been practicing for so long. Office is out dated and cluttered. They do not require patients to wear mask, during a pandemic. The office staff did not have on mask when we walked in the office. After our appointment, I started receiving scam calls. I believe my mothers information was sold to a scam company by someone in this office, or someone who cleans this office. I called, they have no record of her appointment. Her chart is missing. I do not recommend this practice. I called to discuss this with Dr. Cook, but I was met with resistance from the receptionist. I want him to be aware of what is going on in his practice. Someone is taking advantage of him and his elderly clients. Office is out dated and cluttered. My father and I walked in to the office and not one person on the staff was wearing a mask. This was in the summer of 2020 when covid was running rampant in Georgia. After stating that we’d be leaving because of this, the receptionist said they’d put them on. The Dr proceeded to talk about how the mainstream news was fake, telling some story about how CNN reported a story falsely in the early 90s. This just wasn’t really what I expected a neurologist to be talking about during an appointment regarding my father’s Parkinson’s. After this appointment I knew my dad needed a new neurologist. Turns out that Dr Cook had misdiagnosed my father. He didn’t have Parkinson’s. We found a competent doctor who properly diagnosed him in September. I am EXTREMELY thankful for the new doctor, as we were able to understand exactly what my father was going through before he passed away in January of 2021. Excellent caring physician who actually spends quality time with.patients.
Dr. Cook is a great doctor. Listens and is very thorough.
I experienced foot drop, I was not able to move my foot, it was completely loose. Dr. Cook explained to me exactly what the problem was and performed many studies to see the level of damage of my nerve. He is so knowledgeable and patient. I was able to recover and I am so happy to have chosen him to treat me. I am very grateful, I highly recommend him. Dr Cook is a better than excellent MD. I got a quick appointment, wait time was normal and his staff are very competent and pleasant to work with. Dr. Cook took time to explain my tests, what to expect and then went over the results immediately. I would see him again without reservation.
Dr. Albert Cook is awesome. He really takes the time to explain things to you and answers ANY questions that you might have. He also has a great bedside manner. I really enjoy having him as my doctor. I have a condition for the past 17 years which has required a neurologist. He has been one of the best neurologists that I have had over the years. I would most definitely refer him to anyone!

My wife had a horrible experience with this Doctor and his employee as well. My wife went in for a migraine headache. She will get migraines from time to time and this one in particular had continued for several days. She explained to Dr Cook that she was allergic to Sulfa and could not take anything containing this ingredient. He prescribed her a medication that contained Sulfa and told her that it was such a small amount that it would not be a factor. His explaination was so convincing that despite her knowledge about what sulfa can do to her, she took the meds anyway. She took the medication and of coarse she had the allergic reaction. Infact the reaction was so extreme that she was admitted to the hospital to be treated. I called Dr. Cooks office to let them know. The woman who answered the phone seemed indifferent at best about the fact that my wife was in having the reaction to the meds and even more unconcerned that she was in the hospital because of it. Half a day went by before I got a call back from this woman who told me to tell her to stop taking the medication??????....... i was more than annoyed with this directive and told her that Dr Cook was told that she was allergic to this ingredient. Finally more than 24 hours later I got a another call from this same woman who told me that he was prescribing another med; to which I promptly replied 'no thanks'. The attitude, i felt, was more of a defensive nature that a concerned or caring response. My wife was admitted to the Emory JC hospital which was the same location as Dr Cooks office. It would have been nice, at the very least, to receive a call from the doctor or maybe just a quick 150 yard walk over to the ER to check on her. After this experience we cut ties with this Doctors office. We felt, in addition to the Doctor and his staff's indifference to what had happened to her as a result of taking this medication, that Dr. Cook could not be bothered with taking the time to look up an alternative medication to have avoided this situation in the 1st place. (My Opinion) She went to another Neurologist in the area that gave her a medication that actually worked without any allergic reaction. Dr. Cook is professional and knowledgeable.
I have been seeing Dr Cook since 2014. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2012 when I was in the Navy . They didn’t really treat me well. I was having left and right , giving me all sorts of medicine that I shouldn’t taken. I was retired in 2013 . It wasn’t till 2014 I met Dr Cook. Dr Cook , as well is a retired Navy doctor ! He was patient and kind to me . He looked at my records and told me I had three types of seizures , when the navy only told me I had one! He explained to me the medication they kept putting me on as well was causing me to continue to have the seizures. He knows what is talking about. Yes sometimes his office is busy, because he is a neurologist. He has patients that have emergencies at that time then your check up. I have been there. He is seeing so many people. Martha has never been rude to me nor has his staff. I have been seeing Dr Cook since 2014. I was diagnosed with Epilepsy in 2012 when I was in the Navy . They didn’t really treat me well. Doctor ordered a DAT scan. Had the exam and was told the doctor would call me with results in 2-3 days. That was three weeks ago now. Have called the doctor’s office at least a half dozen times and left multiple messages. No response. Very frustrating.
I gave this doctor a list of symptoms I have. He told me that I likely hallucinated them and that they didn't match any neurological disorder he'd heard of. A Google search of my symptoms indicated something potentially autoimmune. He did explain his logic but it was the first visit and that was quite a stretch for the first encounter with a patient.

Great initial visit. He ordered MRI in September - numerous calls to him to get results -- it took 1 month. Another MRI in December - 4 calls - no response - finally just picked up my file in late January and found a new doctor. No rationale for why he didn't call me with the results = ZERO follow-through.
Love Dr. Cook. Best Doctor
Dr. Cook is wonderful! He took the time to listen to all of my concerns and was very thorough in his exam. He was able to explain what he felt my issues were in a way that I could understand (with cognitive impairment). He made me feel comfortable and gave me a plan for getting me well again. His staff was amazing! I got a next day appointment and then got lost (cognitive impairment) and arrived 30 minutes late and he was more than happy to see me.
Dr. Cook immediately went to work with ordering tests to determine what was causing the symptoms I was having. He even called me personally to tell me the results. He is extremely knowledgeable in his profession and legal issues as it relates to medicine. Whenever I have follow up testing as I do yearly for my condition, his staff calls me promptly to go over the results. I usually don’t have to wait more than 20 mins to see the doctor when I have an appointment. I would recommend this doctor.

I had a very bad experience with Dr. Albert A. Cook. I was crying throughout the entire visit, due to a severe headache I have had for long time. He displayed such a non-professional attitude towards me, I believe because I was crying. He gave me 2 shots in the back of my head for nerve block. These shots did not stop the pain. I have called his office 3 times since visit. He has not returned my calls. He dismissed me as being severely depressed, said I needed a psychiatrist. Pain remains

Dr. Cook and his staff are complete jerks and lie just to get your money and will not come through after that.
I started going to Dr. Cook in 2017 for Chronic Migraine. He’s very friendly and a great doctor. He show compassion, concern, and he’s very attentive. Dr. Cook made me feel great that I’d chosen him as a doctor. Recently my great grandmother passed so I have been getting headaches like crazy. I tried calling Dr. Cooks office several times for about a week and a half. I left a voicemail because I needed to get an appointment. Still no one has reached out! Yesterday someone named Martha finally answered the phone. She sounded like a older rude woman. She should no compassion in her voice. She was very rude in my opinion because I was asking several questions that she didn’t want to answer. She disconnected the call without setting my appointment. I ended up calling my Primary Physician Office who tried calling them for one day with no answer. Then they tried to call the second day and got a answer on the second ring! Again Martha answered the phone indicating that she didn’t even know I was patient there! Which tells me she does not listen to the voicemails. She could have easily looked up my information and seen that I was a patient. My Primary Physician Office actually had to get her to call me and schedule the appointment. I’m currently in the process of trying to find a new neurologist. Dr. Cook is great but the people that work for him are unprofessional. Martha put on sweet voice when another doctors office called and she answered. When I the patient have been calling for DAYS she doesn’t even answer or return my calls. High hope here. He saw me and did some initial testing. Said he was concerned with his findings. Bloodwork ordered then he never called again. Getting my test results and seeing a competent doc before I get worse. Looking at past reviews from 16, this is not uncommon.

My father saw Dr. Cook and on both appointments he was thorough and knowledgeable. I accompanied my father and Dr. Cook was very nice and took his time explaining things and talking us. He answered our questions and made us feel comfortable. I would recommend him if you are looking for a Neurologist.
I have been seeing Dr. Cook for over a year. From the start he's been very informative, respectful, and actually talks directly to me instead of any family members that may be with me, which is very nice as not all neurologists I've seen will. He's easy to talk to and actually listens if you have questions or concerns. I've never had any issues with the receptionist either, always greeted nicely when I come in. Would definitely recommend Dr. Cook to anyone looking for a neurologist. I have been seeing Dr. Cook for over a year. It has been months since I saw Albert Cook, but I had to leave a review to share my experience with him. I suffered for months with debilitating neurological and cognitive issues that at least 15 other doctors had dismissed as "emotional or stress related". Finally,I made an appt with Dr. Cook. On the very first visit, not only was he the first to actually listen, but he ran the proper tests and found the diagnosis on the very first visit. He saved my life. I am eternally grateful.

I have all kinds of chronic pain from all over my body. I have entirely to many doctors that can't tell me how to ease my pain. After over two years of other neurologist giving all types of test Dr. Cook pinpointed my main problem by just looking at my back and legs. I had a concussion which gave me huge headaches which my other three doctors couldn't take care of. Dr Cook prescribed the right medicine the first time. Dr Cook has years of experience and stays up to date.

NOT an Emory Hospital Dr....only affiliated with Johns Creek Hospital. Ran lots of tests on husband who presented with progressive neuromuscular symptoms. Had to physically go to office 2x to demand results of brain MRI/spinal because cook /nurse rarely return calls. Husband's symptoms cont to progress to point of interfering with daily life/work. I called top neuro dr@Emory Univ Hospial, who fit us in next week and was alarmed Cook let symptoms get this far w/out referring us elsewhere.

My mother had been suffering since the middle of January, 2016. I finally found Dr. Cook in the list of doctors my insurance accepted and in a short amount of time, he found the problem. We will never go to anyone else. He has definitely won our confidence.
