Dr. Akhtar Purvez

This physician is extremely aggressive with treating pain! And it works! Don’t waste your time if you’re looking for opiates. He is a published author of two books on treating chronic (and acute) pain without opiates. I don’t know about you, but I am just so relieved to have less pain!!! He has treated my severe chronic sciatica that I’ve lived with for 10 years and most recently a Possible injured shoulder! I don’t need a friend, I need a doctor who will quickly relieve me of severe pain! And he does!

After suffering with chronic pain for 12 years, I was referred to Dr. Pervez. He was able to prescribe a readily available drug that helped within days, recommend tests that diagnosed the cause of the pain and began treatment to alleviate it. I had seen three other doctors, two neurologists, and one acupuncturist to little or no avail. I feel like I have my life back, all thanks to Dr. Pervez.

Dr. Purvez is excellent! His office is well run and quick to respond to any need that might arise.

Very compassionate and explains what he is doing. I have been his patient for several yrs. He manages my back pain without narcotics. Very nice office staff. Follows all the Covid protocols! Dr. Purvez AND his office staff are excellent! He is personable, listens very well and aggressively pursues mitigating pain. He's among the best! Staff very thorough and efficient.

I have had back issues for most of my life. Scoliosis, now I have stenosis and arthritis as well. The doc took time to understand my issues and with the back shots and increase in some meds, I am now in a good place. I'm sure issues will arise again, and he'd be the first Dr I'd go to!

I've been seeing Dr. Purvez for about 3 yrs and my back pain has become manageable with the ablations. Except for occasionally, I don't have to take medications for pain. After the procedures, it would be beneficial to have a discharge form, explaining the procedure given, any possible side effects etc.

I have dealt with pain for 20 years and been to many practitioners and been through many modalities of treatment. Dr. Purvez was the first physian who had reviewed my medical history and knew me when I walked in the door. He spent a lot of time talking to me to fully understand my complex history and and current problems. He came up with a plan and has started my treatment and for the first time in over 20 years I am not pain free but have had several days that I have been pain free and have so far had a reduction in pain from a level 8-10 daily to a level of 4-5 daily. I am sleeping better at night and feeling more alive during the day. I am so grateful to Dr. Puvez. His office staff is amazing and helpful and cheerful and polite. The office is easy access and parking. My only complaint is I don't care for the paper gown that I have to wear for treatments but I would say that is a minor complaint. My mom is 86 with MS. She is wheelchair bound and needs a power wheelchair. It took so long to get the PT portion done but we have been waiting for weeks for him to sign the papers. The office never picks up their phone and they never return my calls or those of ABC medical. My moms right side is numb and she really needs this chair. Apparently they don’t care

Dr. Purvez is an excellent Doctor. After working through back pain on my own that became increasingly life altering. I was referred to his practice by my primary care physician. I was not confident in utilizing this approach to pain relief and was quite skeptical that it would work for me. Dr. Purvez confidently treated my back pain successfully through an ablation process. I have been pain free and medication free since receiving treatment from him and am able to engage in physical activities again for my overall health. Life changing treatment and I highly recommend his passionate expertise to help you find relief too.

I and my wife have been to Dr Purvez's office for help with chronic pain in my shoulders, hips, knees and my wife for her sciatic pain several times. Dr. Purve and his staff are exceptional. In each case he has been able with injections to provide months of relief to our mostly arthritic pain from aging. Highly recommend.

Absolutely no wait time. Dr. Purzes came out himself to get me from the waiting room. Right on time. Best bedside manner I have ever experienced. Explained every step of procedure as it was done. Highly recommend!

Dr. Purvez has worked wonders for me. I spent years in back pain with other doctors only wanting to give me prescription medication. He took the time to try other options/procedures and it has been amazing!

Dr. Purvez takes the time to listen to you, and works to help treat your pain. I previously saw a neurologist who basically dismissed me after a few options didn't prove effective. Dr. Purvez is helping me find solutions to minimize my pain, and he sees he patients as actual humans beings. He and his staff are very friendly and helpful!

This Dr does not listen. He automatically thinks you are a pill seeker. I myself have never been into that nor do I like using pharmaceutical drugs for anything because I don't like putting anything like that in my body. All he wanted to do was injections over injections over injections. I was worse after these, and still did not try to help. He just tried putting me on other medications like , Extreme muscle relaxers/ other non narcotic pain medication that made me foggy. BEWARE OF THIS DR

I have to thank Dr. Purvez since he was the only doctor in 1 1/2 that was able to get the severe pain in my neck to practically nothing. I went through 1/2 dozen doctors, PT's to no avail until I was recommended to Dr. Purvez.

Another injection pushing "pain management" place. Pushing non FDA approved injectables because that's where the money is anymore. This isn't pain management, this is profiting on people with major pain who are being jerked around to get the medicines that allow them to function in life. After 20 years of increasing pain and NOBODY paying me ANY mind (Not UVA and not Martha Jefferson either), Dr. Purvez is the only doctor that has listened to me and actually begun to help. He has great bedside manner and his office staff are very pleasant people. It's also WONDERFUL that he has a small practice away from all the craziness of the big hospitals. That was a huge relief. If he seems to push injections, it's becaise he's thinking of your internal well-being, the health of your organs. All of those pills are hard on your liver and kidneys and some are extremely addictive. I think it's great that he works to give us long-lasting forms of relief that are possibly not as dangerous as opiod pills that can get into the wrong hands and/or make you a target for painkiller addicts. I would recommend Dr. Purvez to anyone who is suffering from pain. On the first visit, he helped control more than half of my pain. I've been very pleased with his work ethic & treatment plan. If you're in pain, go see him.

So far I have only had 2 visits, but I am getting the treatment I need to help relieve some of the pain. I feel he is doing a great job at treating one problem. Dr. Purvez was highly recommended to me by another doctor and physical therapy. I am very glad that I saw him. I had a lot of pain in the shoulder and lower back. After evaluation, he recommended a procedure. The procedure was initiated and today I'm pain free. I'm a very happy person now. He is very friendly and also easy to talk to.

Very gifted pain management specialist......excellently skilled Doctor.....also a very approachable and and compassionate human being....not a common combination....so grateful for his help....has made a tremendously positive difference in my ability to live with spinal arthritis in a much more functional way.

Coming all the way from Lynchburg has to mean that he is doing a good job. He shows he cares about his patients. He listens to my needs and is doing his best to fix them. I have only had 2 visits but I hope by the end of it all, my issues are fixed.

Dr Purvez and staff was awesome. I have been going through so much lower back pain for over week $150 later he has me on my way to recovery. However the disease I have is not curable but treatable but i feel comfortable with him. I would recommend his services to anyone you will love him and the staff.

What I like about Dr. Purvez is: he listens to you, whether you are talking about your condition or treatment he takes the time to hear whatever it is you have to say, and encourages your input. he patiently answers your question in the simplest of terms. I have a medical back ground and he always speak to me in layman's terms, and he patiently waits to see if you have any question I never feel rushed when I visit him.........He's a great Doctor!

Best doctor in town! I was waking up with both arms completely numb and asleep after a car accident, the pain when they regained sensation was excruciating, but obviously not something one would take pain medicine for, Dr. Purvez put me on a medicine that was not a pain killer, it effected the neurons and completely fixed my back, I sleep through the night for the first time in a year, and no addictive drugs or side effects. I told my friend about him and he said, "He fixed my back too! My friend (who is black and does not even drink, let alone do any drugs) said that every doctor treated him like he was a drug seeking faker and he was just in excruciating pain so he went to Dr. Purvez, who said let me give you this shot and if that doesn't work we will address the pain. he gave him a shot and my friend said the pain went away and never came back and he was so grateful to get help when other people treated him so poorly. This doc is intelligent charismatic and kind, he listens to you, and he helps you when nobody else can.
