Reviews for Yves J. Meyer
Dr Myers saved my life in 2017. He is very professional and compassionate. His PA was great as well and they always called back and answered my Questions. Thank you Dr Meyer for being a Blessing to me
Dr. Meyer performed a craniotomy on me in 2000 to remove a mass that was causing vision loss and many other complications from my brain. I was only 22 at the time. I am now a healthy, married, mother of 3 with a very blessed life. I have always and will always be so very grateful for Dr. Meyer giving me a chance to have this life. Dr. Meyer also successfully removed a tumor from my grandmothers spine just weeks after my surgery. Because of this man my grandmother who is now (86) is still living her best life.
Dr. Meyer performed three surgeries for me. The first in 2013 was to fuse L3-4-5 with discectomy, giving me six screws and two metal bars in my back. It gave me incredible relief from pain and I could walk again. In 2015 another discectomy at L2-3. Again, incredible relief from pain. In 2017 he fused all vertebrae from L2-L5; removing the two bottom screws at L4-5 because of sufficient fusion of the bone. He added two screws on top, for a total of six, and replaced the bars with longer ones. Dr. Meyer was always attentive and professional about answering our questions. His follow-up after surgery was exceptional. His office assistant, Tonya, was always kind and caring. His PA, Brie, was always kind, professional, and direct in her answers. They were an exceptional team! Dr. Meyer focused on the mechanics of the functioning of the spine and nerves. He assured me that the surgery corrected the mechanical issues of spinosis and disc issues, but could not resolve my losing the ability to walk and the decline from using a walker to using a wheelchair. He worked with my neurologist to investigate these concerns. In late 2018 I continued to have back pain and lost the ability to walk. My neurologist referred me to UT-SW Spine Clinic in Dallas for a second opinion. Dr. Kevin Morrill reviewed all the MRI and CT scans and concluded that "he could not improve on the surgery I had, and no further surgery was necessary." This was welcomed information!! And a great endorsement of Dr. Meyer's treatment for my spine issues. Dr. Morrill referred me to a colleague at the UT-SW MS Clinic. In November 2018 after a review of all historical CT and MRI discs going back to 2010, with new current MRIs, and a lumbar puncture (spinal tap), he concluded that I have a kind of MS that has been progressing over the last 10 years. In 2019 treatment began for PPMS. Dr. Meyer's spinal surgery corrected the problems with my lower spine deterioration and disc issues. His work was excellent, as confirmed by the spine surgery specialist at UT-SW in Dallas. I am a well-satisfied patient of Dr. Meyer, and I highly recommend him and his associates. He helped give me my life back. It took 2 surgeries, but I can move, lift , drive now etc. He was humble from the beginning, thorough in everything. I highly recommend him Suzy kolk
He is an excellent neuro surgeon that saved my husband life 24 years ago.
Dr Meyers shot straight with us and we think the world of him. We are now in year 4 after accident... and are very thankful for his wonderful PA and all his supportive help. Sawyer
Dr Meyer gave me back the ability to walk. I crushed L4 and herniated L5, (or vice versa), I was in excruciating pain 24 hours a day, worse than ANYTHING I have EVER felt in my life. Tears rolled from my eyes without stopping. Completely stooped over to shuffle to the bathroom then my roommate cleaned me, I wanted to die. One evening, contemplating walking to the kitchen drawer, grabbing a knife, going back to bed, I wondered how long I would have before I passed out to slice down my leg and pull out the nerve that I assumed was the cause of my pain. I was only 38 years old with a newborn baby.. and I could NOT walk, let alone lay there without dire pain. After about 3 hours I decided there was one other option, "yes, I'm going to say it", I had Thee Talk with... the Creator. I put it all, ALL the pain, in His hands, I couldn't take it no more. I phoned Dr Myers office the following morning, made an appointment, explained my Long Night to him, had a spinal tap done the following day, and a scheduled surgery in 30 days. Surgery was postponed, and I was devastated. I could not straighten out my upper half to even walk, the pain was STILL beyond what ANY HUMAN should EVER have to go through. I thought Dr Meyers had "forgotten" the importance to me, of the need for surgery. Another surgery was set in place, another 30 days later. 2 hours, a 1 inch incision, GREAT possibility of never walking again, in fact, Dr Meyers said, "... you'll never walk again without a walker.." the tears rolled down my eyes, and then he said, "... at least not without a cane." That was all the HOPE I needed, just a chance and I KNEW I would make it happen if he did his part, cause I had had a talk with "the man upstairs." 5 to 6 hours later, I woke up from surgery. Dr Meyers explained (God, he looked tired, so very tired, I hoped he was "okay"), the procedure he had performed, what he had ran into, why it took so much longer than anticipated, then he told me to go home and lay down till the next surgery in exactly 3 months, and THEN we'd start therapy and get me up to 3 miles in 6 months ---- I didn't. I don't recommend ANYONE to do what I did, just telling MY experience here. I took a cab home, within an hour I put my son in his walker, and shuffled for 3 miles pushing that stroller. I made it home and kept shuffling around the house, I did not want to sit or lay down for fear I'd never stand up again. I went to sleep eventually, got up the next morning, dressed, grabbed that stroller and the baby and did another 3 miles.. I did it EVERY day... I was EXTREMELY careful as Dr Meyers had explained to me, ANY shift in the spine could leave me paralyzed, shuffling baby steps was all I dared. I was walking when I went into the next appointment right before the next scheduled surgery. Boy oh Boy was Dr Meyers surprised!... and a bit VERY upset with what I had done, (yet he seemed, almost, ummm, intrigued by the fact that I was walking) I WAS WALKING! I didn't walk after the 2nd surgery, I did as he said, and the longer I layed the worse it was to try to stand up again... the CONSTANT pain was gone, but now there was post-op pain associated with just trying to sit up in the bed.. having made it thru both surgeries ALIVE, I had deemed it necessary to do as the Doctor ordered because I knew that now my spine was weaker than it was after the first surgery. When he chastised me for not doing bed-rest the first time, I realized that I had taken a BIG CHANCE on sabotaging all of the work he had performed. I went 10 years with very little to no pain, I run, I jump, I walk, but all my movements are USUALLY thought about BEFORE I move, EACH and EVERY step. My "talk" with God that fateful night was PRETTY intense, but I KNEW that ONLY He COULD give me back my legs to walk. Deep down inside, I KNOW that Dr Meyers was the man he is because he was Chosen by Him. I can NEVER repay Dr Meyers for the time he has given me to use my legs. I love him as a fellow-human with the utmost "gratitude of respect." I can guarantee you, heaven has reserved him a place. Dr Meyer gave me back the ability to walk. Dr. Meyer did surgery on my neck in 1999 to fuse 6 & 5 to relive pinching nerves to my arms. He thought the fusion didn’t work, even though motion to the right seemed restricted to me. In another surgery to remove burrs that were in the original diagnosis and effect the intended result of the original surgery. This, also, did not achieve success and he said he couldn’t do more. Since then, other doctors have made numerous negative comments as to the conditions of my neck.
This doctor ruined my neck and never called back. Left me in more pain than before surgery. I give him a zero. Never use this surgeon.
I AM WRITING A REVIEW FOR MY SISTER,BARBARA COWART .DR. MEYER HAS RESCHEDULED HER APPOINTMENT FOR SURGERY 5 TIMES,1 TIME IT WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY. DURING THIS TIME SHE HAS BEEN IN PAIN AND ALREADY HAD TO TAKE OFF WORK.WE CAN NOT TRUST A DOCTOR THAT WOULD DO THAT TO HER. SO IT IS TIME TO MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS.
While Dr Myers provided a diagnosis, his support staff was less than efficient. The follow-up with insurance referrals was bad. Numerous calls and visits were required to complete the insurance claim process for treatment. Additional referrals are still incomplete after two months.
After numerous years of living with tremendous pain (among other symptoms), and dealing with doctors unwilling to take the time to find out what was wrong and to run the proper tests (that ultimately gave the diagnosis of my condition), Dr. Meyer was finally able to give me the answer to "why this happening". Even if there is nothing medical science can do - knowing what is wrong, somehow makes dealing with the situation easier. I think Dr. Meyer is brilliant. It's wonderful to finally find a physician who will search for the answer and not just sweep the problem under the rug. Dr Meyers was the on call ER Nuerosurgeon doctor when I arrived to Harris Methodist via Care flight after a traumatic car wreak. I am so thankful he was on call. He was very professional and informative to my family. I truly believe that God had him there by Devine appointment. To help save my life. He and his PA came into my room everyday to check on me. He made me feel very confident that I had the best care possible. He did follow up surgery on me and had to go out of town after the surgery but still called into the ICU each day to check in on me. Dr. Meyer saved my husbands life twice. He was the on call Trauma Surgeon at the time we were brought in from our motorcycle accident. He was direct and to the point and always kept me informed of what was going on. He talked TO me and listened and answered my questions. After a successful surgery we started a long road to recovery. During this road Dr Meyer listened to me once again and found a injury that occurred during therapy. He had hubby back in the ER and Surgery the next day. We would put our lives in his hands anytime. DR Meyers never stepped in to meet me hear what I had to say or ask me any questions Sent in his PA was all. To me that is not the correct way for a Dr to be. Will not be back.
Rescheduled twice. Second time, it was due to his being on call for ER surgery. Double booked me in the afternoon. Never came in. Just saw PA. Failed to give me medication list so I wasted 6 hrs at the hospital due to machine being down. Just to find out I couldn't have procedure done due to them not giving me the list that hospital said they knew about. They were so rushed to get my appt over with that they failed to do their job correctly. I'd give him a zero if that were an option Rescheduled twice. Had cervical fusion on 6 & 7. Dr. Meyer explained to me and my wife what we could expect and what he stated prepared us for the surgery and what has happened since the surgery. Dr. Meyer and his team are some of the best Dr's, nurses, and technicians I have had the privilege of knowing. I have had no pain from the surgery and only a little muscle spasms which is a possible side effect of the surgery. Would recommend Dr. Meyer and his team to anyone that needs any type of surgery he performs.
