Reviews for William A Vitello
Dr V is incredibly helpful, accessible and patient friendly.
Dr. Vitello went above and beyond to explain my options to me when my index finger was fractured and dislocated. He clearly cares about patient outcomes, including the financial burden incurred. The surgery was complex, but went smoothly, and he has a close relationship with occupational therapists, making recovery smooth as well. His administrative assistant, Lisa was also extremely helpful and responsive. Dr. Vitello went above and beyond to explain my options to me when my index finger was fractured and dislocated. Dr. Vitello and his staff are professional, caring and make you feel welcome and comfortable. I highly recommend them.
Dr Vitello tells it like it is. A man of few words, his focus is on taking care of his patients in the best and most expedient way. Over the course of three surgeries, he always welcomed my questions and – most importantly – always treated me with respect. His direct, honest manner inspires a deserved confidence in his skills as a surgeon. Dr Vitello tells it like it is. I had a broken wrist that ended up having to be surgically repaired. Dr. Vitello is professional and meticulous and the surgical team is as well.
Dr Vitello was clear, thorough, and very kind to me during the care of my wrist. I had never broken a bone before, so I didn't know what to expect. Dr. Vitello explained well, and I asked additional questions about when I could drive safety, etc. He is a very good doctor and I feel I received excellent care with his progress appts and occupational therapy. Highly recommended.
Dr. Vitello was very upfront and direct about the seriousness of the procedure and necessary healing time, which helped me (impatient) understand how important it was to adhere to the timeline. He is no nonsense yet open to any questions and will explain anything you need in detail.
My husband broke his wrist and chipped a piece of bone off Dr. Vitellio operated and put a plate in place of the bone. Michae's arm healed wonderful. You would never know he had surgery.
Dr. Vitello is straightforward and honest about everything he does. His office is very responsive and friendly. He helped me recover from what I thought was a catastrophic injury. Highly recommend!
I cut my fingers in a work related accident which required pins In two fingers. Doctor Vitello was great, he explains everything and gives you options of outcomes. I would definitely recommend him for any hand or upper extremity.
I broke my right wrist, went to the ER where they splinted it and told me to follow up with my doctor. Before I even left the ER, I called Dr. Vitello's office, having had a great experience with him treating arthritis in my left thumb. What I like most about Dr. V is that he is a no b.s. doctor. He explains things well, without dumbing it down, and he doesn't sugar-coat anything, which I really appreciate. After xrays showed the bone was healing just a bit off, he scheduled me for surgery, which we ended up cancelling after subsequent xrays showed adequate healing. People say don't go to a surgeon and expect them to say you don't need surgery, but in this case, people were wrong. It was Dr. Vitello who convinced me not to assume the unnecessary risk of surgery as my wrist would regain functionality without it. I'm religiously doing my PT and my home exercises and I'm doing great. I hope to never break another bone in my hand or wrist, but if I do, I know who I'm going to call.
I cut my fingers in a work related accident which required pins. Three months later I am about to go back to work and fingers are working. Great doctor, no bs.

Dr Vitello is a no nonsense person. Communication was clear with no fluff. He attempted the least invasive treatments and then moved to surgery when those did not work. The office staff was great at making clear what was needed on my end, all referrals, etc. The surgery went smoothly and as he explained it.
Dr. Vitello and the staff at IBJI are real professionals. Dr. Vitello diagnosed my issue and made suggestions as to treatment that he made sure I understood. I went with a surgical procedure that did everything I wanted it to do. I’m now pain free. Thanks Dr. Vitello
Dr. Vitello and his team are extremely professional. Dr. Vitello was straight forward and matter of fact about my procedure. He listened to all my concerns and explained everything that I needed to know. The surgery was successful and the follow up care was even better! I had a trigger finger on my left hand. I went to Dr. Vitello as referred by my pcp. He was so attentive and direct to the point about what's my problem and come up w/ a plan. At first, i was on steroids injections but was not resolved. So, i had my surgery done successfully by Dr. Vitello. I'm so pleased and satisfied w/ the outcome of the surgery. He's calm, cool, and open to suggestions so that in the end both of you agreed with the plan/treatment options. The on-line appointment is so easy, and the staffs were so friendly/accomodating. I highly recommend Dr. Vitello for any orthopedic problems.
Dr. Vitello operated on my left wrist after I broke it and my healing was easy and swift after his surgery! I would highly recommend Dr. Vitello for anyone who wants to ensure they have a full recovery and will return to normal function again.

Broke my left wrist pretty bad on a weekend. At the I had no primary care physician or know where to even begin looking for a specialist. Through Physicians Immediate Care (1000 better than an emergency room), they recommended I make an appointment with the Illinois Bones and Joint Institute. There they connected me with Dr. Vitello, who is a surgeon. On the first visit, he took the time to understand my problem and discussed his recommendation on the best approach. He is a great communicator where I always knew the road we were taking from not only healing the broken bone but what it meant with physical therapy and time commitment. I am thankful for his service, and although I hope to never have another broken hand bone, if I do I now have someone who I trust will get me to the road of recovery. Side note, he is very well known and admired in the healthcare community, from nurses to doctors and therapies, they all knew of Dr. Vitello and praised him as one of the best in the field. This added to my confidence in his ability to help me recover not just quickly but to enable me to get full function of my hand and wrist again. Thank you Dr. Vitello! Dr. Vitello was one of the most amazing doctors that I've ever met. He saved me from needing hand surgery and I'll be forever grateful. He is incredibly honest and took personal interest in me, even calling me to check on my progress. You couldn't ask for a better doctor!
Dr. Vitello performed 2 surgeries on my wrist. He is very thorough and explained the 2 procedures, even with pictures. I also appreciated his professionalism and interest/understanding of my job requirements. His staff was very helpful in setting up appointments and providing the necessary paperwork I needed for my LOA.
Dr. Vitello gave me a good understanding of what to expect and provided pointers to ensure timely healing of my finger without wasted visits. 6 weeks later my finger is straight. Thanks Dr.
I just wanted to express my utmost gratitude having the privilege of being under the care of Dr William Vitello, for not one but two very extreme injuries. I endured a fairly devastating left wrist injury back in 2014 and pretty much shattered it. The injury was extreme but I was quite fortunate that I ended up under Dr Vitello’s care, as today I am able to enjoy almost 100% full motion in my wrist, despite the severity of the injury. I had two surgeries in the process; to implant two medal rods, one being temporary and therefore required a second surgery to be removed. Both surgeries went off without a hitch, as well as the healing process. Dr Vitello is extremely knowledgeable and his confidence feels very reassuring while I was going through these difficult and vulnerable times. Fast forward 6 years (November 2020) I sustained a severe fracture (almost a full break) of my right radius in a bicycle accident. Due to some issues with my health care provider as well as the extensive pre-op process imposed by COVID-19 restrictions I ended up having to wait 12 days to have the actual surgery, but I was determined to be under Dr Vitello’s care; and to my benefit, once again Dr Vitello executed a perfect surgery and my recovery time was far quicker than what I initially expected. The healing process was indeed a very challenging one because it was my dominant hand/arm and there was a roughly 6 inch metal permanent plate set in place; I was looking at a lot of time and therapy. I had some serious concerns about the potential outcome of my recovery, however Dr Vitello kept me inspired and motivated with his style of encouragement and technical expertise. I was extremely diligent about following his post-op instructions and therapy, and much to my delight not only did my arm heal perfectly but it did so in far less time then expected. On top of everything else both injuries (2014 and 2020) took place in the winter time, yet I experienced almost no cold irritation from the metal implants. Dr Vitello is someone who I will hold in high personal and professional regard as I truly believe that he is at the pinnacle of his medical specialty; his organization runs a highly efficient operation and I will/would recommend Dr Vitello to anyone and everyone in this situation !!! Dr. Vitello was a consummate professional throughout the entire process. From diagnosis, explanation, surgery, and post op he was able to effectively communicate and educate. Extremely professional. Thoroughly explains the procedure that he will perform and answers all of your questions.

Straightforward and kind, answered all my questions. Did a wonderful job on my 2 carpal tunnel surgeries.
The office got me in last minute after I broke my elbow. I had been given a lot of conflicting info at the ER in terms of the break and Dr. Vitello laid everything out very clearly. It was also clear that he and my PT were keeping in communication throughout my treatment. Very glad I ended up working with him.
Dr. Vitello has helped me twice in the last two years. 2019 was Carpal Tunnel. Which was solved almost immediately with some prescribed therapy with no surgery needed. This was critical since I am a computer systems admin. Along with a vertical mouse I was back to no pain within 2 weeks. 2020 was a very bad fall in which I broke my wrist and pelvis. Dr. Vitello helped me through the pain and uncertainty with his accurate and highly skilled diagnosis. And also guided me to Dr. Ackermann of IBJT for the pelvis. Dr. Vitello listens carefully and makes sure I had the correct course of treatment. This involved surgery which was very scary but again Dr. Vitello was so precise and knowledgeable that all my fears were quickly replaced by positive thoughts and waking up having a solid stable wrist plate that insures a good healing process. Dr. Vitello then started me on a course of therapy Immediately the following week. I can happily say that my wrist (and pelvis) has healed completely and I will continue the exercise program to build up strength and flexibility. All in all a horrible accident and a lot of pain and uncertainty was mitigated and turned into and amazing experience at IBJT. I visited Dr. Vitello after I tore my UCL and the process, from X-ray, surgery, to occupational therapy, could not have been more smooth. I felt that I was in good care and all of my questions were answered, I felt very confident my hand would heal properly so I could resume normal functionality. After just a few short months I was able to use my hand for everyday tasks as if the injury did not occur. I am very happy with the care I received and I would highly recommend Dr. Vitello as an orthopedic surgeon. It's almost as if the injury did not occur and I could not be more pleased.
I had just left the ER with a broken elbow and confusing information on the break. Dr Vitellos office got me in immediately and he very clearly explained the injury and the recommended treatment. He didn't want to just throw me straight into surgery but made sure I was aware that it was not out of the question depending on how the bone heals. I always appreciate the realistic expectations. It was clear that he and my physical therapist were communicating throughout my treatment too. I felt very well cared for
He's very rude, has a attitude, disrespectful to patients, talk down at you. Don't care about your health. He's a insurance and money doctor not people doctor. I would not recommend him to my worst anemy. Pick someone else but not him.

Why become a doctor if you don’t like people.
VITELLO has zero respect. He doesn’t even deserve 1 star. I just left his office today after waiting almost 2 hours for my appointment. Doctors are supposed to give a knock before entering, no knock, just barges right in to a woman’s room. Right off the bat that made me VERY uncomfortable and scared in his presence. Very impolite, insensitive, and cuts me off when I am speaking about a sensitive subject which is my health. I told him he was hurting me and giving me discomfort during a Hand test and he said “no I am not”. I did not want to be in the room anymore with him. This person doesn’t care about his patients at all. He made me very uncomfortable as a Patient and Woman. He leaves the room without giving me further instructions on what to do after my x ray, Leaving me not only uncomfortable but now confused... not even the nurses know what’s going on here. Overall good experience. He's not the warm and fuzzy type, so if you need that, he may not be the doctor for you. He's no nonsense and to the point, which I appreciated. Saw him a few times, once for a cortisone shot in my wrist and then to schedule/have a tendon release surgery when Cortisone wasn't a long term solution. Surgery, follow up, recovery went very well. Only reason it's a 4 and not a 5 is that there was a significant wait (more than 30 min) for my initial visit. Overall good experience. The receptionist were friendly upon arrival. Dr. Vitello was fine, just all business and isn't that outgoing. I didn't take it personally as he was thorough and to the point. I will say what was frustrating was calling to make a new appointment or if I had a question. Multiple times was I on hold for 20+ minutes, once was over 30 min. and I just hung up and tried later. Possibly they are understaffed to accommodate the call volume. Had I not already seen the Dr. before, I would have moved onto a different Dr. in the area.
Dr. Vitello comes across as a doctor who knows what he is talking about. And maybe he is on the medical side. But he is very impatient and has poor bedside manner. He’s not a good listener and is looking for “yes or no” answers when he asks questions rather than dialogue about the presenting issues. I’m not sure if it’s the type of specialty he has or what, but given that my husband saw him and thought he was a good doctor years ago, it could be that he’s just nor suitable for working well with women. Dr. Vitello was courteous, knowledgeable, efficient, and thorough, as was his staff. The quality of care had by Dr. Vitello and his staff especially his medical assistant was caring, honest and straight forward. They were very helpful in setting up and making all the necessary arrangements for the surgery and subsequent care. Dr. Vitello explained carefully what to expect prior to the surgery, during and after care. He answered all our concerns. Will definitely recommend him and his practice.
Dr Vitello presents himself as a knowledgeable doctor. But this is far from the truth. I had a routine UCL thumb tear with persistent pain. He toldem that i had a extremely low pain tolerance and i shouldn’t have pain post surgery. I’ve since seen another doctor and was told that the surgery performed was one of the worst he’s seen. Please stay away from this man. He doesn’t have your best interests in mind. He Just wants your money. On a side note. His staff is very friendly and courteous.
Cautioning all women to AVOID guy if you get referral to see him. I had a horrible experience in the office with him and think he's probably not someone any women will feel comfortable with. He is creepy and incompetent. I had to get another cortisone shot just a few weeks later to resolve my trigger finger issue.
Dr. Vitello has done a great job with both of my Carpel Tunnel surgeries. I felt he explained my options and listened to what I had to say. Both surgeries involved a minimal amount of swelling and pain. His assistant, Cynthia is outstanding and helpful.
Just do yourself a favor and find someone else. Saw him 3 times for a total of maybe five minutes. In those 5 minutes he was distracted and kind of rude. I felt like in the room with me was definitely the first time he was seeing my X-rays. I did two months of physical therapy, he cleared me for all activities (again after a maybe 2 minute, very distracted follow up) Promptly re-broke the bone. Seeing someone else this time, hopefully this review can save someone out there some wasted time.
I was referred to Dr William Vitello by my HMO doc. I found him to be aloof, distracted, didn't give me much time and didn't listen to me at all. He snapped at me when I was told to place my arm at an uncomfortable angle, and I had to go to another doctor a week and a half later to get another cortisone shot since my issue hadn't been resolved.

I went to see Dr Vitello for a "trigger finger".I wanted to avoid surgery so I had the 2 allowable shots and did occupational therapy. Relief was temporary and I ultimately decided to have the surgery.I wish I had decided to have the surgery sooner. As Dr Vitello explained the procedure was a simple one. My rehab went extremely well. I am a hairdresser and I was concerned about any surgery concerning my hand.Dr Vitello did a great job.I am very pleased.

Dr. Vitello is clearly an expert and was highly recommended by my Primary Care Provider and I can see why. He explained my injury and options in very clear terms and I believe made the right recommendation. Given how busy his practice is they are amazingly efficient and punctual.
Dr. Vitello did some recent hand surgery on me and he fixed my problem. He is kind and very good at what he does. He is very precise and accurate. He and his assistant Cynthia make a great team! Cynthia brings warmth and smiles. She makes you feel welcome.
Dr. Vitello is an excellent Doctor, he was very helpful during and after my wrist surgery. He makes a patient feel comfortable and explains any procedures thoroughly.
Very dismissive attitude. I went in for a cyst on my wrist which has made daily functions and use of my left hand impossible for 8 days. He might be a skilled surgeon but seemed completely uninterested in me or my pain. He saw nothing apparent in my X-Rays and presumably decided I was a low priority--all my questions were met with terse and laconic answers and downright sarcasm. Dr. Vitello: surgery is only one part of healthcare - warmth, kindness, and a good bedside manner are also important.

Dr. Vitello is not the most talkative but is very good at what he does. I was referred to him by my OT Char at Presence for two (2) TFCC Tears in my wrists. Dr. Vitello was able to complete both surgeries on each wrist about 3 months apart. I am very happy with the result with not having pain anymore. I hope I don't see Dr. Vitello again but if I injure my wrist I WILL and I will recommend him to anyone who wants a successful surgery and end result.
Was referred to Dr. Vitello for carpal tunnel. After discussing condition and options at first appt we scheduled surgery. Out-patient surgery went smoothly - no complications and only took Tylenol for pain. Two follow up visits and physical therapy - back to normal in about three weeks. Dr. Vitello handles office meetings efficiently - keeps it moving but took the time to answer any questions I had, I just had to be sure to ask. Impressed by his care and the quality of his team.
Phenomenal surgeon. My healing process was smooth, quick, and comfortable. The surgery went so well one can't even tell that I had surgery, to the point where my PT even confused my two hands today! Highly recommend!

Dr. Vitello is truly an expert in his craft. He recognized my injury and came up with a plan of attack immediately. It was a pretty bad break, so he was very honest in the several ways he might have to go. I'm reading a lot of people talking about him not being friendly or rushed. Yes, he is a very busy person, but I'd rather him do brilliant work on my hand than shoot the breeze with me about the weather. I would recommend him to anyone with a hand injury. I trust his decisions very much.
Dr. Vitello was incredibly diligent throughout my injury. From the onset of my scaphoid fracture he took every precaution to make sure that the treatment was right for me. He makes you feel like he leaves no stone unturned to make sure every decision he makes is the right and conservative one, without leaving the patient out of the loop. Dr. Vitello's staff was the best - super friendly and helpful in dealing with a stressful/frustrating injury. I highly recommend Dr. Vitell!

His staff was very friendly and nice to me each time I had to go there. Dr Vitello was not always the same. My first visit with him was not pleasant at all and he didn't seem to care much about me and my injury. With all the visits I had with his office, he was in and out of my room so fast I couldn't even think of what questions I wanted to ask. His response to everything I was able to ask felt like I was wasting his time and his answer was a dismissive "you broke it." The facility looked nice.

Dr Vitello doesn't listen and shows complete disrespect for the patient's experience. If he had listened 2 weeks ago, I would not have had to spend a few hours in the emergency room tonight to resolve a situation that he could have easily dealt with when I first saw him. Instead he blew me off and took a wait and see attitude. I do not recommend him, and as for myself, have transferred my care to another physician.
Unfriendly & unwelcoming. Did not have my best interests in mind.
