2019 My son had a stroke that completely killed the right side of his brain he was diagnosed with moya moya disease and referred to Dr. Thorell for treatment. Dr. Thorell later went and did an bipass on the left side of the brain and since is flourishing to the point where he only needs to be seen once a year. Since then in June of 2021 I received the same diagnoses and just last month had a stroke. Know I will receive my surgery in three weeks. he cares about his patients and doesn’t sugar coat things he tells you what needs to be done to better your odds and has a legitimate care for his patients. He saved my husband's life from having a ruptured anuerysm subarachnoid hemorrhage. He was very approachable and I totally felt reassured when talking to him!

Great Surgeon and great personality

Dr.Thorell is the greatest Dr...He has saved my life .. I am so blessed to have Dr.Thorell as my neurosurgeon ...Moya Moya 0 ..Sonja 2.5 years ..#ONETOUGHHUSKER...thank you thank you ...If u ever need a Great Neuro doc ...Dr W .Thorell is the best.

He saved my husbands life, hands down. I would not go to any other brain surgeon in the mid west.

"Bill" as he introduced himself, has an inappropriate, unprofessional bedside manner. He seemed unaware of his audience: failed to make eye contact with me or my family in the room, spoke over my questions and those of my family. He had his script, and would simply speak over everyone else. It was a very vulnerable and terrifying time for me - and he seemed unaware that I was crying. I felt like I was a piece of furniture while he was in the room. I don't think he realized how he undermined all staff there caring for me when he said: "If anyone here knew what they were doing, and if [Nebraska Medicine] actually did coordination of care, then we'd be able to answer those questions for you. As it is, I don't know - and I'm only half sarcastic here." Hospital politics should not reach the patient! How can I trust anyone at NE Med with that kind of criticism coming from their own provider? Good surgical skill is only a portion of makes up good CARE, and good teams support each other.

I’ve never met a more obnoxious self important unprofessional physician ever! He was abrupt, dismissive and condescending! He was not interested in what anyone else in the room had to say and even talked over them! He never looked his patient in the eye nor did he even wash his hands before he touched his patients’s surgical site! He was a huge disappointment to my family and should be a huge disappointment to Nebraska Medicine.He doesn’t deserve one star. J K for D J

Explained things very throughly for my family. We had lots of questions and he took the time to answer them openly about AVM and venous anomoly in the brain. Felt very taken care of and could tell I was in great care.

Great Dr. I was treated for an AVM. Dr. Thorell was very informative thoughout the whole process. Bedside manner was very professional yet very caring, I don't trust anyone else with my care.

Dr. Thorell, for being a neurosurgeon is probably the most down to earth physician I've had. I'm an RN at the hospital he works at & have been a patient of his for several years now, being seen for chiari malformation and spinal stenosis. I have yet to have surgery, but am completely confident that if the need arises I am in excellent hands. From the moment my husband & I met him, we were impressed with his bedside manner...he cares! And I feel like I'm always getting an honest opinion.

I absolutely loved Dr Thorell. He is a very intelligent physician but talks to you on a patient's level. He performed my pituitary surgery and gave me my life back! I will forever be indebted to him.
