Sorry for the long review, but it relates to a very long history: It's now been 25 years since Dr. Bill played a huge role in preserving my future after a (non-displaced) broken neck in March '97. The mid-late 20th century equipment & attitude by the staff of nameless medical on hand the night of the accident caused doctors at this facility to misdiagnose a hairline fracture at the top of my spine as no more than a relatively simple concussion. It was very lucky for me that I was already one of Dr. Bill's patients at the time! I went in to see him right away, and in the days immediately after the accident Dr. Bill's cautious approach to the care and stabilization of the injured area quite possibly saved me from giving myself a displaced broken neck. His thoughtful caution and guidance - both then and throughout my rehab - greatly helped me integrate a care plan in spite of a very compartmentalized mainstream medical community that in my mind anyway, were not (by themselves) doing nearly enough to make me any better (because as we'll soon see, they weren't focusing on treating the underlying injury). Fast forward to some 18 months later, when we finally obtained much better MRI imaging of the cervical spine. A medical administrator at nameless medical's PT division took a hard look at all the data and made a more fully accurate diagnosis of the injury. This is what got everyone on the same page, with the concrete realization of the very, very close call in the acute phase. Without someone like Dr. Bill helping to 'bring things along', the mainstream medical folks would by then likely have completely broken my trust in their abilities to create a path to a positive outcome. I would likely have just given up. Dr. Bill facilitated the formation of a team with him, a local Neurosurgeon, a Florida-based Chiropractic Neurologist and a highly skilled New York-based Acupuncturist. They worked together to develop a constructive "first, do no harm" pain reduction and later a visual-retraining regimen. This plan was ultimately what went the distance to make me better able to first get thru each day and later become much more functional again. But it was those critical weeks immediately after the accident that Dr. Bill's cautious pro-active approach to the treatment of the injured area that quite possibly helped save me from a more fully broken neck. I'll close by stating that Dr. Bill was largely responsible for making my ultimate recovery possible. Now, all these years later I can still live as full a life as I am able (with some manageable limitations). I will always feel deep gratitude for Dr. Bill and his team. They were there for me when I needed them most.
