Dr Oppenheim very nearly killed me. Just over two years ago, when I had been a patient of his for a decade, I was admitted to UCLA Santa Monica Orthopedic Hospital with symptoms including a rapid loss of muscle strength and progressing paralysis. Despite suggestions from other doctors, he refused to conduct basic tests such as an MRI, which would have revealed that I had severe cervical spinal stenosis, which is something that can happen to people with moderate to severe cerebral palsy. Instead of ordering basic tests, he insisted that what I was experiencing was either psychosomatic or the result of a drug interaction. By the time I was able to get a second opinion from a different physician after an MRI, the stenosis was so advanced that the new doctor was surprised I was still able to breathe on my own (by this point, I was almost completely paralyzed from the neck down and had very little sensation), and cautioned my parents and I that I might not recover at all. Dr Oppenheim nearly killed me. 2 years ago, when I was a long-standing patient, I was hospitalized due to rapid weakening and progressive paralysis. Despite input from other doctors, he refused to conduct basic tests, which would have revealed severe cervical spinal stenosis. He insisted it was either psychosomatic or from a drug interaction. When a new doctor ordered an MRI, the stenosis was so advanced he was surprised I was still breathing on my own and cautioned that I might not recover.
