Dr. Dobkin is like no other! He's graceful, smart and emphatic. He has given me many miracles!

Dr. Dobkin was my husband's surgeon for an emergency craniotomy and we are so grateful. Despite a large intracranial hematoma, my husband woke up relatively unscathed. Part was luck and timing but also a big part to Dr. Dobkin's excellent surgical skills and availability at a moment's notice to perform the surgery. He cleared the blood clot out completely, his stitching was solid and has re-ran CT scans (came out clean) and met with us multiple times post-op. He has a straightforward style but is very nice and answered our questions. His office is hard to get a hold of and the office wait time was long but worth it. They have also squeezed us in between appointments to try to accomodate us. Bottom-line, when you are in a scary situation with the brain, you need a surgeon who is extremely experienced and can attend to the surgery quickly. Dr. Dobkin is that surgeon. My husband could have easily walked away with severe speech and vision impairment but I feel his miraculous recovery was very much due to Dr. Dobkin. He is extremely experienced in trauma surgery so if you are in need of an emergency surgery, you are in his good hands.

He operated on my back to repair my spine. Prior he didn’t understand how I was walking. Very pleased with Dr and staff at Hoag and Fudge Family Rehap facility

Dr Dobkin is a gift! He has rebuilt my lumbar spine 2009, Cervical in 2020 and will do my Thoracic in 2 weeks. QI suffer from degenerative disc disease and I have been so lucky to find him! If you're looking for someone with gentle kind bedside manner who will baby you, look elsewhere. Hes a man of few words, amazing skills and knows what he's doing. Anyone talking about a botched surgery probably came to him after already having one. He can't fix everyone and people will always gripe and complain. Had multiple x-rays and scans to look at. I was told 2 maybe 3 vertebrae would be fused. He took it upon himself to do 8. I now have 2 rods and sixteen screws in my back, and am not able to bend or rotate. I cannot stand up straight and I lean to the right. It has effected my appearance and self confidence tremendously. I have also lost many of the abilities that I had before. Every day i have lower back pain from trying to stand up straight, or trying to walk any distance. One of the screws became infected and I had to have more surgery and then every day for 12 weeks I had an infusion of antibiotics to fight the infection. I think having him as my surgeon is one of the greatest regrets of my life.

Botched surgery. Second surgeon had to go in shortly thereafter and repair damage done by Dobkin, in addition to original work needed. I can not recommend Dobkin.

He performed surgery on C5-C6 & L5-S1 in 2001. I had virtually no pain from his manipulation of my back. It took about one year for my body to recover & nerves to regenerate & mend. That's uncomfortable & you need patience to allow your bode to heal. He is an outstanding surgeon!

Dr Dobkins botched my wife's surgery. He disappeared right after the surgery and I could not ask questions. When I asked him where he was at, he said his young wife was getting plastic surgery. Look at his picture. Who posts his wife like that. Old dude with young trophy wife. Other nurses at Hoag said he left his wife for the young OR nurse. Big story at hoag. Dr. Dobkin rebuilt my 93 year old mother's spine. Be clear he saved her life. Given her age and injuries it was nothing short of a miracle that we had such success.

This man....i dont even want to call him a "Dr." Let alone "specialiat". I have degenerative disc disease and had a cervical decompression fusion. My symptoms never did quite go away yet there was improvement. I went back to see him about 5 years later with images and he told me everything was normal. Try physical therapy. Now I have learned that I have some major problems. Part of the fusion failed so tge steel plate in my neck broke into 2 pieces and now facing another surgery.

If I could give him 0 stars, I would. I would not let this person operate on my worst enemy. My father was in ICU for days and has so many complications after surgery. Dobkin is egotistical on what looks to be wife #3, and needs to retire. He doesn’t explain anything has zero bedside manner to top it all off . Worst experience ever. He misrepresented what the surgery would entail, and we can never go back.

Having suffered from degenerative disk disease This man has made my life great again. He fused my lumbar spine 8 years ago with absolute success enabling me to enjoy life again. 6 weeks ago He fused my thoracic spine saving me from intense pain. This is a great surgeon. Hes a man of few words but knows what hes doing. He saved my life and made it great again. Thank God for him. He is the best I would recommend him to anybody who wants their life back. He is the best surgeon. Im grateful for him

My previous appointment was cancelled with short notice. The next appointment was scheduled in the following week. I waited in reception area for 1 1/2 hours and still was behind two patients to be seen. I left the office--upset!. The receptionist was not helpful and did not inform the waiting patients of any delays or problems. Other patients said this is pretty normal. Wow! What a business model. An unacceptable rude situation. Dr Dobkin is a great doctor but enough is enough. .

Stay Away from this butcher. He has a great bed side manner, but don't let that fool you, and do not let him touch your back. In January 2010, Dr Dobkin performed a posterior spinal fusion on my spine at L5-s1. He botched the fusion and caused nerve pain where it never existed. Without getting into gritty details after this fusion my symptoms got worst and worst. I started to develop Nerve pain, burning and ringing in my feet and legs where it never existed before the surgery. Moreover, once it looked like I was spiraling down, Dr. Dobkin avoided scheduling appointments with me and tried to forward me to a pain specialist. Four and a half years later I found a brilliant Dr. (Dr. Robert Bray at DISK group.) Who figured out that the bold placement which Dobkin preformed was wrong for my physiology and the bolts were banging against the bonny structures in my back. In September 2014, I had doctor Bray clean up after Dobkin and take out the incorrectly placed bolts, fractured bone pieces, and resulting calcification from my back. I also found out that the surgery, which Dobkin, performed was an old style surgery, which most surgeons do not do now a days due to complication rates (such was my case) I'm finally doing better, and off pain medications and injections. I suffered for almost 5 years and at one point contemplated suicide, compliments of Dr. Dobkin. In any case I;m doing much better now, off of pain meds and beginning to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Incidentally, if you had a "successful" surgery with Dobkin, it was probably not him performing it. Most likely Dr. Brown. In any case DO NOT LET THIS MAN TOUCH YOUR BACK. I am a 67 year old female patient of Dr. Dobkin. Dr. Dobkin has performed two surgeries on me in the past 7 years. The 1st surgery he performed was a cervical fusion to correct another surgeon's work. My spinal cord was impinged in two places from my discs collapsing and I had lost use of my left arm as well as other issues. The second surgery was performed just recently, about 3 months ago. It was an extremely complex surgery with disc replacement,correction of scoliosis and removal of stenosis. The surgery was 10 hours. With the assistance of two other surgeons, the surgery was successful. I highly recommend Dr. Dobkin. He has given me a new lease on life and I look forward to being active in my remainder years! Dr. Dobkin, assisted by two other surgeons, performed a seven hour surgery on my spine to correct a botched job by another Hoag Hospital neurosurgeon. The complex surgery probably saved my life, and certainly kept me from living in a wheelchair the rest of my life. It was a long and painful recovery but I was back playing golf (my passion) in 14 or 15 months. Although I'm somewhat limited in mobility, 2-1/4 years after the surgery I shot two consecutive rounds of 85 on a challenging course last week. I would advise anyone to choose Dr. Dobkin over Dr. Richard Kim or any other surgeon at Hoag. I would also advise anyone that is considering spinal surgery to have a consultation with Dr. Anthony Kim of Saddleback Hospital.
