Dr. Wayne Shreffler

Dr. Shreffler is a smart, patient and caring doctor. We see him to manage multiple food allergies. He is thorough, always has a plan, and most importantly, he listens. He treats my family with respect and always takes the time to address myself and my husband individually so that he can assure he covers all our questions and concerns. He is up to date with the latest research and treatments, and we fully trust his judgement. We saw two other allergists at two other top Boston Hospitals before we found Dr. Shreffler, and we are so glad we didn't settle for less.

My daughter saw him where he now works at MGH. He is a poor clinical doctor and should not see patients. His main focus is research. He is probably required to see patients. He did not appear to be fully focused on my daughter or listening when I talked about her symptoms. He misdiagnosed severe food allergies, missed her EOE (that a nurse picked up on and he ignored), and missed her MCAD. After switching to a different allergy group, my daughter was easily diagnosed.

Dr. Shreffler is very knowledgeable about food and is doing some innovative research. However, I found that he is aggressive with treatments and misdiagnosed my daughter multiple times. She winded up having a severe inflammatory reaction from one of his recommendations. He also recommended I give her other foods even though I had told him she had reacted badly to them. He doesn't seem to listen to patients that well and seems to take the view that they are ignorant of their children's reactions. I felt that if my daughter stayed under his care other serious reactions would happen to her. He is probably a good doctor for children THAT only have straight forward IgE allergies and NOTHING else going on. I really couldn't believe how he ignored my daughter's symptoms and was telling me they were basically in my head. His focus is more on research and not on clinical needs of patients.
