Dr. Timothy Bhattacharyya

Dr. Bhattacharyya is an excellent orthopedic physician and surgeon. My hip surgery was absolutely perfect with never a hint of pain nor any mobility problems. He is caring and makes the patient feel that you are always most important to him when he is talking with you during your appointment. As a former Hospital CEO, he is the quintessential physician I would recruit to be on my staff.

I could not have found a better surgeon than Dr. Bhattacharyya to deal with my hip replacement surgery. He led me through the process with expertise, patience, explanations and a highly successful outcome.

Dr. Bhattacharyya is very kind and caring doctor. He treated our daughter who has disabilities. He always took the extra time to interact with her during every visit and answer her questions and ours (her parents). He replaced our daughter’s hip in October 2022 and it was a miracle. She no longer walks with a limp and is able to perform many functions that she had been unable to do, like bending over to put on her shoes or slacks. Her recovery went extremely well under his guidance and she did not require a lot of medication during her recovery. We highly recommend Dr. Bhattacharyya.

Dr. Is very smart, personable, and a good listener. I trust him with any medical assessment or service on my joints.

Very efficient checking process. Didn’t have to wait long to see the doctor. Dr. Bhattacharyya was very friendly and easy to talk to. I didn’t feel as if he was in a rush, but was much appreciated.

Dr. Bhattacharyya performed my hip arthroplasty and within 3 weeks I was walking without a cane and getting back to my normal routine. He has a great beside manner and did an outstanding job. The staff at Ortho Bethesda are professional, polite and efficient. The procedure was performed at Suburban hospital and the process from registration through pre-op, surgery, recovery and discharge went smoothly and the level of care was excellent. I highly recommend Dr. Bhattacharyya and his team.

I wish I could give Dr. B a better review since I am a longtime patient of Ortho Bethesda, a practice full of highly skilled wonderful surgeons who put their patients health and concerns 1st. My appointment was less than 5 minutes long and very rushed. Once I had my MRI results and he finally got back to me to discuss findings I was told the mri was perfectly fine and normal. When I asked why I’d been experiencing such pain and limited rotation in my hip joint he offered me no explanation even when I pressed him. It’s clear he’s an excellent surgeon but I do think he is one of those Dr’s who’s not interested in patients who aren’t surgical candidates.

He answered all of my questions about the hip surgery and he saw that my knee was swollen. So he drained the knee.

Dr. Battacharyya is thorough, knowledgeable and explains options in a very clear and consider fashion.

I had an excellent interaction with the doctor. He examined the x-rays that were taken and determined the prosthesis put in place 33 years ago was still stable and intact. Knowing that is a tremendous relief. And, I know to increase my exercise and conditioning to reduce weight and strengthen muscles in the lower back and legs

His medical assistant today was Excellent.

I badly fractured my elbow, requiring surgery (plate and screws) by Dr. Bhattacharyya. He performed the surgery, with minimal scarring, and I was able to start PT 10 days afterwards. Within 6 weeks, I was able to fully bend my arm and regain substantial use. I would highly recommend him.

He had performed surgery on my right ankle more than a year ago and examined my left ankle after a recent fall. I experience him as a knowledgeable, kind doctor with outstanding assistants

The doctor was very good because he was very thorough.

Basically great. Four-and-a-half stars. Slightly rushed. Ideally, he would have given more practical advice, such as how much to use crutches, exercise and ice. Leaving all those questions to the still-unscheduled PT is inefficient.

He did a great job, I was very pleased

Bhattacharyya performed an open reduction internal fixation on my right tibia plateau. He seemed very experienced and although at times seemed like he didn't have a lot of time for me, he did an excellent job on the surgery. Maybe could use a touch more patience with patients, but overall a great doctor!

Everything went very smoothly and efficiently. Dr. B. and his staff were all very friendly and put me at ease.

Dr. Bhattacharyya performed a very successful open reduction internal fixation procedure on my left elbow about 8 weeks ago. Its joint alignment is excellent, its range of motion is already nearly identical to that of my right arm, and its bearing ability is rapidly increasing. I feel very fortunate that he could fit me into his schedule on short notice.

I wanted to give Dr. Bhattachryya 4 stars but it did not work. He is a great surgeon without the arrogance that we, patients, have to cope with very often. He fixed the bad femoral bone fracture I had with great expertise. Came to visit me the day after and explained in simple words what he had done. Told me as well that I looked better than the day before. That helps when you still feel miserable. I immediately felt at ease with Dr. Timothy (as I named him).

Even one star is too much for this doctor. Stay away from Dr. Bhattacharyya. He did a hip surgery on me in Suburban Hospital and now one leg is shorter than the other. When I asked him how in the world that happened, he said that it is normal in a majority of cases in this surgery. In his view, it is normal to make an able individual disable. He should be fired from Suburban Hospital!

Very poor bedside manner. He made the wrong diagnosis (torn ACL, surgery required) based on a CT Scan, not an MRI. Added unneeded emotional trauma to a very difficult event.

Set my son's elbow in ER but didn't reattach bone and left nerve in wrong location. Luckily an orthopedic friend of ours told us to come in and he fixed it

Whish I could give 0 Stars. My son went into Suburban Hospital with a broken and separated elbow. Dr Bhattacharyya took Xrays, reset the elbow, and told us to see him in his office in a week. My son kept complaining he couldn't feel two of his fingers but the doctor told him it was normal. Luckily my son goes to school with other orthopedic families so we sent them pictures of the X-ray and told them what was going on. We were told to urgently come in and within a day he was rused to surgery. The elbow was set wrong, the nerve was in the wrong place, and there was a bone that needed to be reattached with screws! If we had waited the week his elbow would have likely been permanently damaged.

I broke and displaced the elbow (cross-country skiing in the wrong place). Dr. Bhattacharyya was very efficient in fixing the displacement; however he was very persistent in trying to convince me that I needed a surgery while I got the second opinion from my orthopedic surgeon who said it was not necessary. I would get a second opinion if you have any doubts that you need a surgery.

I was treated by Dr. Bhattacharyya in the Suburban Hospital emergency room when broke and displaced my elbow. He was very efficient in fixing the displacement. However, he became increasingly persistent in his attempt to convince me that I needed a surgery which my orthopedist said was not necessary. I recommend you to get the second opinion from the orthopedist you trust before agreeing to the surgery with Dr. Bhattacharyya.

He was an out of network surgeon, in my in- network facility, that performed an emergency surgery, knowing he would then charge me directly for a huge sum - I had to fight for an appeal which took forever and I started l still had to pay a huge sum for the surgery. Also there’s a huge dent in my knee that other surgeon will have to fix now. Horrible

Dr. Bhattacharyya was called in for my Truman surgery on both my broken ankles. He did a superb job . I am in my third month since I had surgery and along with my physical Therepy I am healing and walking pretty good. Excellent doctor. Marco his clinical assistant is great. He Always answered all my questions and filled out my paperwork in a timely manner. Office staff was great. You guys rock.

Post-leg surgery/next day Dr. visited room and I asked whether a success-he said, "Yes. We already had this conversation." Clearly, I had no memory of conversation, and asked, "Was I lucid?" He shook his head NO. So, then, WE didn't have a conversation. Not kept on blood thinner (I asked at 1st follow-up post-rehab) & in an immobilizer 6 weeks caused blood clots in 2 entire leg veins. New ortho. surgeon elsewhere said at least I should have been kept on prescription aspirin. I could have died.

We came to Dr. Bhattacharyya through Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, MD. He was the Emergency room doctor on call at the hospital the night my 5 year old daughter broke her arm. I have never written a review in my life, but my experience with him was so atrocious, that I must share it so others may avoid a similar situation. The cast he created for my daughter at the hospital was improperly angled so her arm was awkwardly turned out. We had to go to Children's Hospital to recast her arm.

Please avoid this surgeon!

Was told that my femur fracture was completely healed (have a copy of the report stating that) & it was not. Had to have another surgery by a different surgeon to fix fracture.

I fractured my acetabulum in 2006 and was in the hospital for approximately 7 days (3 days pre-surgery, 4 days post surgery), I found him to be an excellent doctor, and all follow up visits were positive, somehow I managed not to dislodge the plate or any of the screws(screws in my pelvis, I am not saying anything about the screws in my head). I have even gone sky diving on his work :)

I appreciate you putting me back together after the fall I took off of the roof. You have been an excellent doctor and surgeon. Thank you so much. I know you will continue taking care of patients and helping them because you are so dedicated. Thank you again Dr. Bhattacharyya!!!

Dr. Bhattacharyya saw me for a broken ankle and I found him to be a compassionate and responsive doctor. I was able to understand him perfectly and did not detect an accent. The wait was a little long but I was otherwise very satisfied with his care.
