It has been a few years since my son was referred to Dr. Rand. We had spent 2 years going back and forth to his pediatrician with the continual, "There's nothing wrong with him." After one frightening event that took us to the ER, a friend in the medical field suggested we contact Dr. Rand. We did and he got us in the next day. Dr. Rand is very professional so if you're looking for Patch Adams you are not going to find him. What I remember the most was when I said, "I don't know if it's important but..." he stopped me and said, "You know your son. Just tell me everything and let me decide what's important." I talked for the next 20 minutes explaining the last 2 years of medical issues. He just listened. No questions, minimal eye contact, did a lot of note taking. Some might find that off putting. I found it reassuring. Someone was listening instead of dismissing my concerns. He set us up for a battery of tests, which I had asked for and been denied at the pediatrician's office because they could not find "cause" to run them. Within 48 hours we were well on our way to a diagnosis. And, after a few final tests my son was diagnosed with NTM. He required a medicine cocktail for 6 months with frequent check ups to monitor the progress. One of the most telling things about this whole experience was that after the diagnosis was made, Dr. Rand did not want to "take over" our son's treatment. He met with our pediatrician and educated him on the diagnosis, treatment, and future issues that could come up. We had a couple of set backs, but our pediatrician was in contact with Dr. Rand and we were able to get things taken care of locally. Later our pediatrician told me that because of Dr. Rand and his teaching he was able to diagnosis another patient with the NTM and get him help earlier. We are forever grateful to have had Dr. Rand take on our son's case. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone.
