About Thomas S Ellis
Reviews for Thomas S Ellis
Dr. Ellis is an outstanding surgeon. He did surgery on my back and it is so much better. Dr. Ellis is very up front about what is wrong, what needs to be done and the results you can expect. His team is there to support you throughout the process. I highly recommend Dr. Ellis for your needs.
Doctor Thomas Ellis best surgeon ever
Dr. Ellis and his team did amazing work on my neck. I had 3 disc replaced do to them being “bone on bone” and due to other health issues and age I had lots of concerns. However, everything went great and I only stayed one night in the hospital. I would recommend him 100% for any situation your dealing with. You won’t be disappointed.
Dr. Thomas Ellis is a phenomenal dr. He did a wonderful job with my neck fusions . I had 6 and had only muscle spasms as pain. After the first two weeks, I was feeling great. I pile highly recommend him for any surgery. He is a wonderful, down to earth man. I feel like you have known him forever.
I have used Dr.Ellis for two surgeries of my neck and lower back over the past 4 years. I went to Dr. Ellis for the simple fact I wanted the best in Neurosurgery . Dr.Ellis is the Man in Fort Worth for these specialty type procedures , and this is reinforced by the nurses that I have talked with in the past . Dr.Ellis makes you feel like family and relaxes your fears and is very easy to talk with ( no rush here , he takes the time and explained my condition to me and the procedure to fix it ). I have and will continue to recommend Dr.Ellis to my family and friends .
Dr. Ellis and the office staff were great! Dr. Ellis was the third doctor I saw when searching for someone to operate on my neck. Prior to anything I was given tests to ensure the surgery was necessary and for him to know what the exact issues were. Although surgery was necessary there was not the “pressure” I received from others to hurry up and have it. Surgery and recovery went great! I loved his sitting with me going over test results and showing me what the surgery would consist of and answering ALL my questions.
Dr. Ellis performed major surgery on my wife's back and since then she has been playing competitive league tennis for 10 years. Recently he performed major neck surgery on my 86 year old dad and now he is completely healed and in no pain. We highly recommend Dr. Ellis.
I absolutely love Dr. Ellis! He and his staff are outstanding! He is personable, kind and listens to what you have to say. I had to have ACDF surgery in May 2021 and five months later Brain Decompression for Chiari I Malformation. Each surgery was a success and I could not be happier with the results. Dr. Ellis was thorough in his evaluation and sent me for extensive outside testing before even considering surgery. I hands down without reservation recommend Dr. Ellis. He is Amazing!!!
Due to chronic back pain I was referred to Dr. Ellis. After a battery of tests, he diagnosed cervical deterioration in my upper spine. I am now 10 weeks post op and am virtually pain free. Dr. Ellis is a careful, kind, and skillful practitioner and I recommend him wholeheartedly.
My wife had a brain aneurysm 18 yrs ago and Dr. Ellis performed brain surgery on her and pinched to leaking blood vessel. She came out in perfect condition. No loss of motor skills or memory. Thank You doctor for saving my wife, Esther Hilton.
I most likely would not be here today if not for having my spine surgery. Dr Ellis is a miracle worker. My recovery time was good and my care was excellent. I love Dr Ellis and he has given me my life back.
I was just fired by Dr Ellis for wanting a second opinion. Dr Ellis was recommended to me by a Dr as well as Neuro ICU nurse. I made an appointment and he seem like a nice enough doctor. I work for a large corporation and they provide, as one of their health benefits, a free second opinion through a company called Grand Round. The collect all the information, test results ..etc and forward it to a specialist in my area in that particular field. In this case, it is a Duke graduate, works at Baylor in Dallas .. etc I got a call today from Dr Ellis's office telling me that I was fired as a patient. The reason being that Dr Ellis does not permit his patients to get a second opinion. I was told by his office that if I sought a second opinion I could just go ahead and see that Dr. What?????? I have always been told that to be a good patient you are supposed to get at the very least two opinions and to be proactive in your healthcare. This is not a hang nail. I have a cyst in my brain and head pain. We are trying to determine if the two are related. Before I let anyone crack my head open or conduct any procedure on my head or spine I am getting a second and probably a 3rd opinion. For a doctor to not allow this is appalling and unprofessional. I have no idea how good this doctor is but to tell me that it's his way or the highway is the pinnacle of arrogance. Feb 17 2022 I received a personal call from Dr Ellis today. He was looking to clarify what happened and apologize for what turned out to a huge misunderstanding between him, his staff and myself. Mr Ellis does allow and in fact encourages patients to seek second opinions. I greatly appreciate the fact that Dr Ellis took the time, a year after the fact, to reach out and make this right. Dr Ellis is kind and considers all angles of what is needed for his patients. He is thorough in a surgical situation and doesn't let anything get overlooked. Dr. Ellis is a fantastic surgeon----He has taken amazing care of me and multiple other people I know and love. I highly recommend him to anyone needing a neorosurgeon in Fort Worth.
For thirty years I suffered through periodic back pain fearful of having surgery. When it became apparent that surgery might be required because of sciatica, my primary care physician recommended that i see Dr. Ellis. What Dr. Ellis told me was revelatory. I didn't need back surgery but would greatly benefit from aggressive physical therapy. Eight weeks later and the daily issues of back pain have virtually disappeared. With his conservative approach Dr. Ellis eased my fears, and he provided a path for me to be pain free. If I could give him six stars, I would. Thank you Dr. Ellis! Dr. Ellis is both a highly skilled doctor & surgeon, but also has incredible bedside manner and really cares about the long term outcome for his patients. I have seen him for several years for both lumbar & cervical spine issues. He was not quick to rush to surgical intervention and helped me to stave off pain for years with other methods, but he was also very attentive to the need for surgery when the time came. I recently had an anterior/posterior lumbar fusion & decompression with Dr. Ellis and I have been impressed with how thorough he has been from the actual surgery to post operative care to recovery. Dr. Ellis came highly recommended to me by a close friend with a lot of knowledge about FW's surgeons. I had a great experience with him from the initial consultation through a very successful cervical spine surgery to my follow up appointments. He is kind, down-to-earth, and explains things thoroughly, in addition to being a great surgeon. I have already recommended him to others I love who have need of a neurosurgeon.

I think he the best of the best.My operation went so well l was working again in four weeks.
Dr. Ellis has been wonderful. He took the time to explain my back problems and discussed with me the options for treatment. His staff is very nice also. Wouldn’t see anyone else.
I'd been bed ridden with a pinched nerve for a month but managed to schedule an appointment a week in advanced for 7/16, got an MRI sent to the office and laid in bed all week awaiting my appointment. I recieved a text from Jaime at 7pm the night before confirming xrays. Recieved a call 3 hours before my appointment saying the Dr was busy and if I couldn't come early I would have to reschedule my appointment for 8/12 (I'm 2 hours away and unable to drive due to the pinched nerve). Jaime seemed to think it was appropriate I lay around until there was a potential cancelation. Very disappointed with the disorganization they could have called at any point during the week or even told me the night before. Will be looking for a place that will treat a serious issue with some urgency. Had ACDF for severe pain to right scapula down right arm. I am totally pain free, and my strength has came back to my right arm. Surgical scar is barely noticeable. I am able to perform my ADL's without any difficulty. Wonderful staff, prepared me for the surgery, and made my recovery possible. Awesome Neurosurgeon!
I highly recommend Dr. Thomas Ellis and his surgical team and staff. I have had extremely positive results after my back surgery. Several members of my family and I agree that Dr. Ellis is the BEST neurosurgeon in Fort Worth.
Have been in a few times for neck and low back pain. Ellis has always been very careful to listen what problems you have and very confident in the best course of action in treatment. If someone is working on my brain or spine, I want someone who comes off confident and not timid. I wouldn’t hesitate to send any of my family to see him. His accolades speak for themselves. In response to my surgery on 11-30, I couldn't be more satisfied, and rate Dr. Ellis and his staff as high as possible. He was my surgeon in 2005 for spinal stenosis, so when I suffered an injury to cervical vertebrae, I knew I wanted Dr. Ellis to take care of me. After pre-surgery requirements. including physical therapy, several tests and clearance, Dr. Ellis performed serious repair to all the cervical vertebrae, relieving unbearable pain I had been having. So glad Dr. Ellis was recommended to me. Dr. Ellis explains everything. He is an absolutely great surgeon. So happy on how my first surgery turned out. I would recommend Dr Ellis to everyone who needs surgery.
I am a registered nurse and have been a nurse for 20 years, so I get a little particular with my medical staff! He came highly recommended by my orthopedic associates. Dr Ellis has treated several of my family members, friends and co-workers. I have first hand seen his results from neuro and spinal surgery and the results are amazing. I truly think God works through this mans hands. I wouldn't trust myself or my family with anyone else.
Dr. Thomas Ellis is an insightful and gifted Neurosurgeon. Dr. Thomas Ellis has provided extraordinary care, and counsel, from the point of diagnosis until present.
Everything from the time we entered until we left was exemplary! The staff, the safety precautions, Dr. Ellis himself. Dr. Ellis didn't just explain my husband's issues, he showed us the test results to help us understand our options. He explained everything to our satisfaction and offered his recommendations which helped us to make informed decisions as to my husband's future care. We highly recommend Fort Worth Brain and Spine.

I was in a car accident, & my primary wanted me to get a second opinion. My primary said there is a pinched nerve. I had to quit work because of the pain in my upper back. He said he didn't see a pinched nerve, sent me to a pain clinic for epidermal injection. He was rude, and lied when filling out my charges. Dr. Ellis is a wonderful surgeon and I would've given 5 stars but there were a couple of oversights in my opinion, but I'm no Dr.. First, I was never fitted for my neck collar I had to wear after surgery. I felt that should have been done. Second, I had to call to get the info of surgery since I did not receive the info in the time frame I was given. But that's not really a big deal, just an inconvenience. Lastly, I was told I need a bone stimulator at my 2 week post-op. Almost 2 weeks later no call, so I had to call for an update. Again, not a big deal but is an inconvenience and made me feel like I wasn't really a priority. I thank GOD for allowing me to be referred to Dr. Ellis. Dr. Ellis is a honest, understanding, and straightforward doctor. I’ve been dealing with a condition for a very longtime. When I made my appointment, I prayed he would not be like other physician I had dealt with in the past. He listen to my situation and the rest was history. He knew my situation was complicated, but he decided to help me. I’m so glad he did. After having some X-rays, he decided to go forth with surgery. The surgery wasn’t bad, and he explained everything to me about it before the surgery. I’m so much better since he did an ACDF surgery. My only advice when having this surgery is to listen and do everything he/his assistant tell u to do and not to do. If you do those things, recover from this procedure will go smooth. I was told I had syrnix in my spinal cord and possible Chiari Malformation and to google the conditions while I find a Neurosurgeon. My Dad had surgery with Dr. Ellis about 6 months prior so when I got into the PCP for a referral i knew he is where I needed to go. I got in fairly quickly. He looked at my scans and confirmed Chiari's. Never once did he diminish my symptoms when it originally looked to be type 0. He ordered additional testing, and it was done fairly quickly. When I came back in it was actually type 1 Chiari and with Syringemelia. He explained to me how my condition worked, and how surgery should improve my quality. He also was sure to explain risks and possible complications. He was excellent at surgery. I have had a few minor complications all of which were out of his control. He has been great when doing follow up exams, additional testing, and etc. The only downside to Dr. Ellis is the office staff. They dont return phone calls and sometimes dont take things has seriously has he does. I am willing to overlook those since he is SO AMAZING. My husband and I have been patients of Dr. Ellis for 14 years. During that time we have formed an excellent patient doctor relationship. He explains what the issues are and how he can address them. Dr. Ellis will only operate if he feels he will improve your quality of life. He’s been keeping my husband on his feet through three surgeries to address his worsening spinal stenosis. He cares!! My husband has other issues that makes surgery questionable, but when we advised his regular Dr. of the latest surgery he said he trusts Dr Ellis completely. He said if it was someone else he would question it, but if Ellis says it will help keep him walking and not falling instead of being in a wheelchair, he approved. There is also the caliber of his team. Everyone on Dr. Ellis’ team have been extremely knowledgeable, caring and responsive. Kelly, Jenna, Jaime and Kim have all been so helpful. If you are in need of a neurosurgeon we know you should choose Dr. Ellis.
I have been very impressed with the staff members that work with Dr Ellis. The intensity with which Dr Ellis does his job is amazing. He listens to his patients and is an excellent neurosurgeon. I feel fortunate that I was referred to Dr Ellis for my surgeries.

If you want to find out from Dr. Ellis the results of your tests and get help, you need to make an appointment at the time of testing, so he can explain them to you. When I made several calls, left messages, and even showed up in person twice, I was even told I couldn't make an appointment by the front desk person. I became even more upset when I noticed the person at the desk look at another person and roll her eyes. I waited 20 minutes to see the medical assistant, who never made an appearance before I had to leave. I finally get a call later that evening to tell me they were going to have me get an injection, which was supposed to have happened 2 weeks prior by Ellis's orders. Needless to say, injection didn't work, I am still in awful pain, have not had the tests explained to me, and my insurance has started over. Finally, I liked Dr. Ellis when I met him, I just don't think he is aware of what is happening after his patient leaves his exam room.
I did my homework to find the best spinal physician in the DFW area and I found Dr. Ellis. My experience over the past five plus years is that he is the best! I find the office staff and Dr. Ellis have tried their very best to maintain my health years prior to my surgery and these following months after surgery. I am responding well and the results are excellent. Dr. Ellis is very committed to patient care, pre and post operative. For example, he had to add time to the scheduled time for my surgery.... I am so grateful he did so, to correct unanticipated needs. That of course leads to a longer surgical time for the day.... which leads to a later time for regular or follow up appointments. I have waited some few times for my appointments but certainly can figure out why and it is certainly not for ANY other reason than patient care. When it is you or me asking more questions or in surgery longer--taking more time with Dr. Ellis, he always serves the patient... and good for him.

Dr. Ellis performed a laminectomy and fusion with excellent results. I highly recommend him and his staff.
Dr. Ellis is a very good doctor who takes his time during his appts. He is the most thorough Dr I have ever been to. Your in good hands with Dr Ellis for sure!
I worked as a pharmacist for 44 years. I finally had to quit as I got to the point that I couldn't stand long or walk very far. After a year I figured that either I had to resign to the fact I would pretty well be crippled with back trouble or do something about it. Several doctors told me that I would just have to put up with the pain. Before I gave up I determined that I would see the doctor that doctors go to for chronic back problems. After a careful investigation I traveled back to Fort Worth to Dr. Thomas Ellis. It took a few weeks to be seen and after a number of tests he determined that he probably would be able to help. He removed a vertebra several weeks ago that was crushing several nerves. Tonight I did my regular 3 mile walk. Before you give up, do what I did-- I went to the doctors' back doctor. I went to Dr. Ellis not having any idea that most of my neurological systems were stemming from Cervical Stenosis. Dr. Ellis was thorough and showed me the areas of concern. He clearly explained that the compression on my spinal nerve in my lower neck and upper back was the area of concern. Due to the location, he was not able to do the preferred anterior cervical fusion, so had to do the more invasive posterior cervical laminectomy. He clearly explained the procedure. I am so glad I had the surgery. I am able to walk without pain, and most of my other symptoms have dissipated. He was not demeaning with his expression of his knowledge. Dr. Ellis is the best surgeon and this neck surgery had almost no pains afterwards and the recovery is a lot easier than the hysterectomy I had several years ago. I was pleased with the briefing before and after the surgery. My husband received a detailed explanation how the surgery went and what he has done. Since I had 100 percent confidence in Dr. Ellis, I had no anxiety about the surgery either. I want Dr. Ellis's to fix my puppy's birth defect as well. I am sure Emma will be perfect. Maki.
The staff and doctors are excellent.
After I had to check in via a kiosk, waiting 1/2 hr, being led through what looked like a call center, and made to wait in a room the size of a phone booth with decor less charming, I was told I was too fat for surgery, and referred to a bariatric doctor. (The bariatric doctor had never even heard of Dr. Ellis). He clearly hadn’t read my chart, nor taken more than a passing glance at my MRI. Two days to return a phone call, no bedside manner - I chose a mich better surgeon at a different practic
Dr. Ellis really saved my life. I had unbelievable sciatic nerve pain for 5 years. I went to many doctors and had 5 mri’s that every radiologist found nothing wrong. The pain was incredible so I knew something was wrong. When I finally found Dr. Ellis he looked at my films and in less than 60 seconds said “there it is”. You see dr. Ellis is one of the rare doctors that reads the films himself! My surgery was scheduled and I was shocked when I woke up pain free. There is no one better
Great doctor
The results from the surgery are great! I still have a small amount of pain but time should take care of that. We had a few issues getting the tests scheduled before the surgery but the girls did an outstanding job. I recommend this office to everyone I know.
The best dr as for as me and my husband are concerned . Two surgeries on my husband and brain tumor on me. He was a god sent. I will always be grateful to him.
He has been so successful in the 3 operations he has performed on me this last year and a half. I had about given up on anyone being able to give me the ability to walk like I used to.

Dr Ellis is amazing!! He performed brain surgery on my daughter and she's doing great!! So thankful we were referred to him.
Dr. Ellis has performed 3 spinal surgeries on me in the last 4 years. Each surgery has been successful with great outcomes. He listens and has always taken into consideration my concerns. Surgery was never the first option. For the first time in over 10 years, I am pain free due to the most recent lumbar spine 360 cage surgery. This one was very worrying and he was most reassuring throughout the preop appointments. I would highly recommend him to anyone having back issues.
