Dr. Terence W Barrett

I saw Dr. Barrett as a child in court mandated counseling with my physically and emotionally abusive parent. I had just recovered from a broken arm from the abuse. It was the worst experience of my life. He made me sit next to my parent EVERY time. He never listened to what I said. He would ask my parent "can you tell her what REALLY happened?". He would tell my parent things I said during personal therapy, which I had said I was terrified to say because of my fear of this parent. My step parent was allowed to come in and just rag on how horrible I was. My parent was allowed to berate and tell me I deserved to be hit, tied up with belts, made to stand in corners for endless hours because I was out of control (at 4 because I walked in front of the tv during a football game or refused to have a bandaid removed). He told ME to apologize to my parent for calling the police when they broke my arm outside my school. It drove me over so many edges. I began to self-harm, began wanting to die and almost attempted suicide. Dr. Barrett made me lose all trust in any mental healthcare provider. I still can't trust therapists fully. Added note, all of this went down when I was 10 years old. Definitely don't recommend. Run the other direction.
