I saw Dr. Fishman for acute hives that were more persistent than usual, covering 30-40% of my body and lasting 10 days. They weren't responding to antihistamines. She spent 1 1/2 hours with me reviewing my 5+year history of hives, the triggers, the suspected viral cause for this flair-up. Her recommendation of a short burst of prednisone and then the usual dosages of antihistamines was brilliant. In less than 24 hours, I was no longer in pain, the hives were reducing in size and color diminishing. She not only came up with a good immediate treatment, but a strategy for long-term care.
