Susan delivered my son by c-section in November 2014 at Hutzel Hospital. I will first say that the surgery was successful and I had no complications. That said, she could use serious improvement in her bedside manner and tact. I was delivering with a midwife when Susan walked into the room, did not introduce herself, and only said to me, "You have 4 pushes or you have to have a c-section." This is a very alerting and frightening thing for a parent to hear -- especially when they had no idea anything was wrong. The midwife introduced Susan to me and explained the reason why she was there (my son's heart rate). I calmly asked for more explanation for why this prompted a c-section -- I knew that heart rate could fluctuate during contractions and I wanted to make sure it was medically necessary. Susan was brisk through our entire encounter, and asking this question apparently angered her. She blamed my weight as a factor in needing a c-section (something that is also not supported by current medical research -- I'm fat, but not that fat), saying to me, "Let's be honest, it's not like you weigh 90 pounds." I then attempted those "four pushes" -- with Susan perpetually saying to me, "You're not even pushing," "You're not REALLY pushing," while the midwife argued that I was. I get that she was probably trying to say, "Your body is not making progress," but this is not what you say to an exhausted woman at the end of a long and painful labor. Then she suddenly changed her stance and said we "should" think about a c-section soon, but that she wasn't "trying" to tell us what to do. Which is it, Susan? Is this an emergency that needs to be remedied NOW or do we have time? At least she was kind enough to tell my husband on the way out of the OR that my son wasn't coming out any other way. Not. Seriously, after treating me that way, she couldn't say it to me? Get another doctor, absolutely. Her attitude made me question her judgment, but I felt I had no other choice. Horrible support during delivery. Only criticism and blame. Get someone else.

I was a patient of Dr Berman's and spent 2 months in the hospital in a high risk obstetrics ward. She fought to keep me in the hospital when the insurance companies wanted me out. I had a catastrophic abruption and had it not been for her caring, I would not be writing these comments. Thank you Dr. Berman

This woman is like a crazy preventive medicine machine, doesnt give a dam about her patients it's just about her safety and making her 'part time' job easier. I know for sure that she used to be a good scientist, may she's better off behing a dest in some fansy lab
