About Steven C. Sheskier
Reviews for Steven C. Sheskier
My records were mixed up w/another patient's; Sheskier thought I was on Medicaid. He obviously has contempt for people who are low income. He tried to coerce me to do triple hindfoot fusion. He blatantly lied that my X-rays show severe arthritis bordering on DJD & that my MRI showed diseased tendon. I saw 5 different orthopedists. No other doctor diagnosed these. Sheskier rudely yelled while smirking, if PRP doesn't work, you will need triple arthrodesis! I believe he intentionally & maliciously damaged my tendon in order to force me to do triple hindfoot fusion which Medicaid pays out the most. PRP he used on me was THICK BLOOD RED. Real PRP is yellow. He scraped my intact tendon off my medial malleolus and navicular, causing ruptures to my tendons & sheaths. I was unable to walk for over 2 months. Luckily I found other expert surgeons who did allograft tendon surgery on me. Sheskier and manager apologized for his sham PRP & Sheskier offered refund on the phone.
I was an extremely serious condition after a very bad car accident that was not my fault but nevertheless required lots of care and I believe I was very fortunate, because my Physiatrist put me in touch with one of the best neurosurgeons, and then also one of the best orthopedic surgeons for the particular problem I was having with my leg and foot, I was very eager when I went to visit him and lots of pain seeking surgery as a remedy and he was very prudent to talk me out of the surgery, he was also extremely well spoken about at the hospital of joint diseases and other places where he sent me to get MRI images. I’m not entirely certain if he was also practicing with one of the New York sports teams, I recall somebody saying that in the waiting room to me but either way, there was no doubt in my mind and in downtown Manhattan at certain locations he referred me to, including certain doctors that told me they also regarded him as the best. Again he talked me out of the surgery, wisely
I was sent to Dr. Sheskier by my ankle surgeon out of Stonybrook Hospital in 2004 for a second opinion. Dr. Sheskier was very thorough and explained his opinion & he had a wonderful demeanor & mannerism. He made my wife & I laugh & he has a great sense of humor. Dr. Sheskier was originally a nurse & hated doctors so much that he became a doctor to actually help patients suffering & bring back courtesy, professionalism & respect. I am truly sorry that I did not let Dr. Sheskier perform my first procedure. My surgeon screwed up my foot so bad that it turned gangrene. I could have lost my foot. My foot hurt much worse after the surgery & I was left with severe nerve damage due to all the hardware and screws. After multiple doctors referred me to Dr. Sheskier, I became his patient in 2009. Dr. Sheskier has performed multiple surgical procedures to my right ankle & recently my left ankle to help me. I have been Dr. Sheskier’s patient for over 12 years and Denia is Awesome too!
Dr. Sheskier is a rare commodity in the health profession- a practitioner who takes the time to thoroughly analyze their patient's condition and who apply a voluminous knowledge of the healing arts to arrive at an accurate diagnosis and a correct solution to their patient's ailment. After wasting my time and money with four foot surgeons associated with the Hospital for Special Surgery who dismissed my condition as neuropathy and who sent me home with no treatment solution, I learned of Dr. Sheskier. He correctly diagnosed that scar tissue was causing the pain in my foot. He applied a number of non-surgical solutions and now I am pain free. Has issues with patients asking questions and doesn't use proper equipment or protocol to perform procedures. Do NOT use Sheskier for any reason. He lies and does unwarranted procedures.
THIS DOCTOR IS A MIRACLE WORKER!!!!
Dr. Sheskier is an orthopedic specialist. I had left ankle pilon fracture orif, basically means my ankle was crushed. I fell on concrete whilst holding articles in both hands. It was as bad as it could get. Couldn’t stand or walk. Transferred from 2 other hospitals. Those doctors couldn’t help me. Finally transferred to NYU and Dr. Sheskier. I will never forget that he came in and performed my surgery on a Saturday because he didn’t want me to wait until Monday. My surgery went very well. Dr. Sheskier knew every thing there was to know regarding healing my injury. I’m truly grateful to him and his lovely staff. Dr. Sheskier takes care of the medical and Dania and Maggie takes care of everything else; doctors notes, insurance forms, compensation all sorts of claims. They are so competent and knowledgeable about medical injury paperwork. I knew nothing. This was my first and only traumatic injury. The appointments are scheduled correctly so that you won’t be waiting for hours, like some doctors do. Dr. Nick is awesome too. So caring and helpful. I couldn’t write my review without mentioning him. I miss him and will be glad when he’s back in the office. I come from Long Island. I pass countless orthopedic practices to get to Dr. Sheskier’s office because they are 5 star excellent. Highly recommended. Dr. Sheskier is an orthopedic specialist. So far my experience has been terrific. He has never kept me waiting. He performed foot surgery two weeks ago and it seems to be going very well. He very kindly saw me a week earlier than my scheduled post-op visit because I was concerned and worried (thankfully. it was just me being fretful). To be continued in a few weeks!
Stay far away!!!. Sheskier is a horrible doctor. He ruined my ankle after what was suppose to be a simple procedure. He missed my alignment issue. I was able to walk very well before he operated on me. After the operation I was never the same. I never gained my range of motion and developed severe arthritis. I've had three very successful surgeries performed by Dr. Sheskier and I'm probably heading for a fourth. He is a terrific surgeon with a terrific bedside manner . I feel very fortunate to have been referred to him.
The worst doctor I have ever met, rude and unprofessional. In addition, the surgery he performed was unsuccessful after going through ten weeks of non weight bearing. Stay away.
Dr. Sheskier performed a total ankle replacement at NYU Langone hospital. The results exceed my expectations. I am able to walk many miles in a day with no pain or swelling. My ankle feels perfectly normal. The visits to the office were pleasant. Everyone was efficient and competent and I was treated within a reasonable amount of time. Whenever I had a concern I could call and get information or make an appointment for an office visit. I highly recommend visiting Dr. Sheskier and making use of his skill and expertise and experience.
In the past 3 years, I've had to have 4 surgeries. Dr. Sheskier is terrific. He's an incredible surgeon, accessible, informative and caring. The other medical staff are exceptionally competent. ( Nick, formerly a practitioner in Romania, has been an angel at every post op appt. )The administrative staff are efficient and helpful. If you need surgery in their specialty area, I highly recommend Dr Sheskier and staff. I'm so grateful to them for enhancing my quality of life.
Dr. Sheskier gave me back my life after having suffered through a serious car accident and major infection. If you're looking for a doctor with conventional "bedside manners," he may not be for you - however, if you're looking for a doctor who knows his subject thoroughly, has a sense of humor and is often tender and always caring, then he's your doctor. He's brilliant, no matter how it looks, he's brilliant.
He is a terrible surgeon and I do not recommend him. He messed up my foot and gave me the lamest (no pun intended) answer imaginable to my question regarding why my toe was a mess.
Dr Sheskier is an incredible doctor. I recommend him to everyone. He took care of my ankle surgery and took me out of pain. And his staff is always on point when I need any question answer the call me right away.????????????????
Dr. Sheskier is super knowledgeable, professional, thorough and informative. The results of my surgery have left me pain and discomfort free. His office stuff is excellent and prompt. Wait time was almost nothing through the entire process.
Dr Sheskier helped my mother to walk again after other doctors gave up. He is very compassionate and has a good bedside manner. Our family highly recommends him for ankle repair surgery. He is an A+ surgeon.
I have seen Dr Steven Sheskier and have had 3 successful surgeries for my ankle, foot and toes. He is very knowledgeable and has excellent bedside manner along with a good sense of humor. He explained the entire process each time and let me know what to expect. He tried several modalities (PRP injection and PT) in an effort to avoid surgery which really made me feel comfortable with him. The surgeries ended with the best possible outcome for which I was very pleased and have recommended him to other physicians, co-workers and friends (I'm a Registered Nurse). I waited 1 hour for Dr. Sheskier!! -- way beyond my limit of waiting for doctors!! Then, I found him to be unpleasant, condescending, and seemingly irritated when my answers to his questions were not precisely what he was seeking! He had a scowl on his face thru the whole appointment and rolled his eyes when he did not like the answers I gave him. I tried long answers, then short answers .,.. but the doctor just seemed aggravated. He also moved my foot around roughly and when i left, the pain wa

All around bad experience - 2+ hours spent in waiting room, incorrect diagnosis, and overcharged for multiple visits. Save your time and go somewhere more professional that values customer service
While he is an okay doctor when you actually get to see him, he never works on a Friday. So if you are in pain such as myself with neuroma and are begging him for a cortisone shot be prepared to suffer an entire weekend because he wants to go home early. I have never worked with a more unprofessional staff either. The guy Daniel who answers the phone needs etiquette lessons. If I didn't need his referral to see another doctor I would NOT go back. Hands down the best doctor I've ever been to!
Very talented, experienced surgeon. Professional office, excellent patient care from start to finish. My ankle is healing wonderfully - thank you!
It's rare nowadays to find a physician who seriously cares about his patients and shows the humanness that should be evident with any medical treatment. Besides being a sterling orthopedist, he has smarts to use his common sense when dealing w. patients. And as "the boss", he has put a team that works well together and serves his patients well. My Post tibial tendon was torn, had surgery with Dr. Sheskier 8 months ago. He did an immaculate job with the surgery. He is a conservative doctor and wouldn't do anymore than necessary. Dr. Sheskier literally ruined my life, in that he decided on an ankle fusion which either didn't heal properly or broke apart an one point. It has caused my on-going considerable pain. To combat the pain I took so many pain killers I developed a bleeding ulcer and passed out what at another doctors office. I spent five days at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where my hemoglobin was down to 5! Two blood transfusions did no good. An endoscopy discovered the bleed. I've never fully recovered my former health
Dr. Sheskier is extremely knowledgeable. I went to him with a foot problem that I have had for several years. After examining me he had a preliminary diagnosis but ordered a test to confirm. After he obtained the results he called me at 6pm, after his office hours, and explained the diagnosis and the recommended treatment. He answered all of my questions and he performed the surgery within two weeks. I am happy to say that the surgery was successful and I feel better than I have in years.

Jan' 27, 2017 @ 2:09 pm. I was to be a new patient in this particular doctor's office referred to me by another MD. The male receptionist put me on hold for 5 minutes. I understand medical offices are quite busy. I have my own private PT studio office in Williamsburg. So I waited. I hanged up and called again. The male receptionist, no one is picking up. I tried a third time and still no one answers. A recording says, "You reached, Mia Polanco" and "Sorry this office does not accept any voice messages." "Dial Zero for operator". I dialed zero and no one answered still. I am shocked! lol. "Mia Polanco" who?! Going to try one more time the following day. Jan' 27, 2017 @ 2:09 pm. Dr. SHESKIER is exceptionally skilled. Extraordinary. If your problem is fixable, this is the surgeon who you want.
Excellent surgeon with a caring bedside manner. I recently had Posterior Tibial tendon repair with a tendon transfer and calcaneal osteotomy. I am thrilled with my results. I am now 4 months post-op and the results are excellent. I am walking unaided, no cane, no limp and my surgical ankle feels better than my non operated foot. My friends are amazed at my progress and so am I. Dr. Sheskier and his staff have a very patient oriented approach...even to suggesting vitamins to help with healing and the use of an Ice Machine to reduce swelling and discomfort during post op care. He was always available to answer questions and address my concerns throughout my recovery in a warm and approachable manner. Initially I had a lot of anxiety about doing this type of surgery after reading various online medical sites describing what to expect and the standard recovery time frame. Being 72, I feared my age might have an adverse effect on healing. So many of these websites carried posted accounts of long uncomfortable recovery stories that I put off the required surgery for 2 years trying to find alternatives. I had seen several doctors and 2 other surgeons in my search to figure out what to do and get an accurate diagnosis on my increasing dysfunctional foot and ankle problems after a bad fall. Finding Dr. Sheskier was the happy result of my searching. He came highly recommended by my son’s friend who is a skilled orthopedic surgeon himself. As his patient, I never felt rushed to just schedule surgery. He was very thorough, carefully explained options, and issues. He even took the time and interest to work with me in my efforts to find alternative solutions to heal my torn tendon prior to my decision to go ahead with the repair surgery. What a refreshing difference to other surgeons I had encountered. His skill is certainly evident in the results of my surgery. I feel very fortunate to have had the benefit of his skill and expertise. I have a new lease on life and two good feet to go with it! Excellent surgeon with a caring bedside manner. After insisting I get an unessicary MRI in the foot that didn't have a problem, he told me what I already knew about my "bad" foot and recommended surgery. Fine. So I start asking questions on the surgery itself, recovery time etc... After maybe 4 questions he ROLLED HIS EYES, gave an irritated huff, and continued on. Then he continued to use a degrading and insulting tone IN FRONT OF HIS INTERN. I left livid, appalled, disrespected AND without any advice on treating my condition.

I was impressed immediately upon meeting Dr. Sheskier. I am a critical care nurse with 39 years of experience and the level of compassion that he showed was outstanding. He helped me through a difficult time that started with pain and tears and ended up with comfort, increase in quality of life and smiles. Thank you so much.
I've been a patient of Dr. Sheskier since 2004 and love the guy, he is truly a kind, caring physcian. He has a great bedside manner, and greets you with a smile every visit and if your lucky a joke. He tries very hard to do whatever he can to eliminate your pain and suffering. He is honest and straightforward with his treatments plans and surgical procedures and what they will fix or won't fix. You can not ask for or find a better doctor anywhere. He is truly the best!

REALLY smart. An outside the box thinker. He will do extensive "work ups", which can take some time, but I appreciate having the added perpsective/diagnostic in making an evaluation. Having been to a few "top" doctors, I would say Dr. Sheskier is the only ortho I've been to in NYC who really doesn't give a hoot about conformity or someone else's opinion. Before I had met dr. Steven Sheskier, I hardly could walk; if it was not for his three surgeries on my ankles performed from 2006 till 2010, I wouldn't be able now to walk at all. I have a full trust in him, and still visit his office for consultations and prescriptions. Dr. Sheskier concisely explained my medical situations, suggested possible solutions, and most importantly, stitched together and replaced what was missing in my joints, so I could walk again.
