Dr. Steven Myles Portman

I don’t typically take time to put reviews but when Doctor Portman called me personally at 7pm last week as a second referral from my primary care doctor to a neurologist- it gave me hope because I’m sorry- doctors don’t do that. I have been continually dismissed by doctor after doctor due to having mental health disorders in my file, no one gave me the time of day. I’ve been to probably 10 emergency rooms in the last 4-6 months and seen doctor after doctor. We had a zoom scheduled today and due to my anxiety in fear of being turned away with just a psych referral, he nearly rescheduled the appointment due to me being clearly upset. I closed my eyes, prayed and calmed down.. I’m glad I did. I say this because maybe someone else could have been like me and was just freaking out… but we were able to find a common ground and finish a thorough first appt. He ordered- without me asking first, the exact tests and imaging I have felt strongly I have needed for years… he also was very compassionate and reassured me he would listen to my concerns of medication side effects and explained how they could benefit me. I liked that because I don’t think any treatment will work well if you don’t understand what it’s doing in your body. He also apologized for coming off harsh at the beginning… I mean I am not saved by any means- but a doctor like this really deserves a 5 star review and to be recognized. He didn’t just treat symptoms and send me to the next, he’s taking steps that I believe will save my life. Thank you so much! I’m forever grateful! How do you get in touch with this physician? Is there a patient portal like most Doctors?? Does this doctor have a contact or a PA or a secretary or an office to contact?

Made an appointment with this physician to have my son assessed for Tourette Syndrome. Much of the initial consultation was spent with the doctor recording intake information including developmental milestones that would have been more accurate and a better use of everyone's time if I had been provided with the questions beforehand to answer and reviewed during the visit. I did not feel like this doctor was listening to me; he interrupted me and rephrased what I was saying frequently, and his version felt like he was hearing what he expected to hear, not what was actually said. If my husband hadn't been present I would've thought I just wasn't explaining well but his attempts to clarify for the doctor felt dismissed as well. Some of the doctor's questions also showed us he had tuned out while I was talking. Overall my impression was that this parent interview was a formality and his treatment plan predetermined. Ultimately, I decided not to proceed with having my son assessed by this doctor after the parent interview portion of the new patient consultation was complete. The provider chose to bill my credit card the full amount for this partial "consult", even though he was informed well in advance of the appointment and so was out no billable time. I was disappointed on all fronts by this doctor. I made an appointment to have my 9 yo assessed for Tourette Syndrome. Ultimately, I decided not to proceed with having my son assessed by this doctor after the parent interview portion of the new patient consultation was complete as it felt like the parent interview was a formality and his treatment plan predetermined.

Terrible with children, parents, and time. Stated "Diet changes have no effect, OT, PT, therapies, behavior modification, and counseling are all a waste of time and money." His belief that the only thing that works for children is pharmaceuticals and used scare tactics to push his medication agenda. Please take anyone you care about elsewhere!!! I I've seen dr. Portman for years and have had absolutely no problem he knows my background and he's always treated me Fair I trust him with my history and I wouldn't go anywhere else now that I live in Florida I'm going to be visiting him again I can actually say I trust him more than most doctors

Dr Portman was our Christmas miracle. My mother was suffering by a sudden onset of Trigeminal Neuralgia. She is 82 years old. This happened just before Christmas 2019. The pain was so unbelievably excruciating. We called everyone. We went to walk in clinic. They gave her every drug out there and threw it against a wall to see what would stick. OxyContin to deal with pain. Due to the Christmas holiday no one would be able to see us until the new year. I could not bear to see my mom in such a condition. My wife made phone calls and left messages. This man personally called me back on the eve of Christmas Eve. He told me he would see us at 2pm on Christmas Eve and we would be his only patient that day. He broke down the Meds and got rid of the nonsense walk in clinic prescribed. He spent an hour examining and explaining. At some point he told us that there were conditions that were so important to treat immediately as to not endure suffering. Not only that he personally contacted insurance company to insure we had proper referral. He did not have to, but he did. I have rarely seen a doctor go out of his way to insure a patients suffering was addressed, on Christmas Eve no less. Thank you Dr. Portman you are a gentleman and my savior. This Doctor is truly amazing. We have taken my 7 year old son to several different doctors because he was having trouble learning in school and couldnt get any help they always assume your child has adhd with out some of them even meeting him. (He is a very calm child) They wanted to diagnose him without spending time with him. Doctor Portman told me we would leave with a diagnosis, and we did, ( a real diagnosis) after he spent a signifigant amount of time with my child and was so very patient with him, we now have a diagnosis and can teach him in ways that he is able to actually learn. Rude, inappropriate, called other doctors idiots and scammers, he was terrible with my 6 month old,his tools were filthy,he is a quack. Started pushing surgery before he ever examined her. He even started filling out an application for me for surgery. The baby does not need surgery. Fraudulent practioner beware

He is very rude and stated e and the other doctors were idiots. He also stated that my daughter has no disability at all.....very rude to children

Both my son & I go to Dr. Portman for ADD/ADHD. He takes the time to listen to what's going on and then treats ACCORDINGLY. I found Dr. Portman on accident while trying to find a Dr. that accepts my insurance, truly a blessing. My son is doing amazing in school and will soon bring home his first Honor Roll report card & as for me I feel like a brand new person! We could not be happier. I highly recommend Dr. Portman if you are in need of a Dr. within his area of expertise.
