We scheduled my father's surgery three times and he cancelled all three. The last time Dad was in prep and Dr. Bastian just left.

To begin insanity of today I took 2 weeks to get surgery scheduled. Scheduler using her private phone with Caller ID blacked so her calls to treated as spam calls. Why doesn’t office use a common phone number. After driving 52 miles round trip I literally walked in to register only to have nurse say my procedure was cancelled. Lost all faith in this office. Office never returns phone calls. Always goes to voicemail.

Dr. Bastian did a fantastic job clearing out my husbands infection in his finger, also very meticulous assuring the infection was gone. HIs bedside manner was genuine and kind. Easy to talk to and he truly listened.

I was set for surgery on my hands and this Dr came to the hospital and was to perform my surgery. I had no insurance after the loss of our Son I had lost my Job. I have severe nerve damage arthritis and carpal tunnel in both hands the pain was unbearable and I was unable to even dress myself. He came and said hey why don’t you come to the office so I can perform a nerve test and assess the damage. I said I have no insurance and I can’t afford that and I need this surgery. He than said to me “Well I’ve done well and I can afford to help you at no cost”. I than agreed and made my appointment. When we arrived I was instantly charged for the visit. When I was taken back he finally came in and was rude. He did absolutely nothing to help me NOTHING and charged me for the visit. He ruined my life. I’m unable now to use my hands the pain is so great. Must be nice to just not give a second thought about a human being and their pain. Compassion was nowhere to be found. I’ve tried to forgive but I just can’t. He didn’t want to do the surgery as he and his buddy wanted to play golf. That’s the conversation they had at my bedside in the hospital it was a holiday. Lack of fallow through, after the surgery left for the wolves, no medication for pain due to him not being able to be reached or answering his messages in office (clarified by receptionist) seems to be about the money and not the patient. Unethical, unprofessional.

The worst doctor does not return calls to his patients, I had to go to another doctor to finish his job

As a Certified Hand Therapist, practicing on New Mexico, I have had the privilege of working with a few of Dr Bastian’s trauma reconstructions. His work is meticulous and clinical outcomes have been excellent.

I had a minor hand surgery through Dr. Bastian's office. After the surgery, I ended up with complications that I wasn't expecting nor was I prepared for. No one at the office answered the phone any time I called and the issue was bad enough that after several conversations with my primary care doctor (and still no response from Dr. Bastian's office) I was referred to a different hand surgeon in Phoenix to give me a second opinion. I also ended up with several surprising bills including a $900 bill for a plastic splint and a $75 bill for 'materials' during a follow up appointment when literally no materials were used. I would recommend that anyone with the ability to do so avoids the AZ Center for Hand to Shoulder Surgery.

Dr. Bastian is an incredible physician. Friendly, patient, kind, compassionate and honest. After consulting with a MAYO orthopedic hand surgeon, I was convinced I needed surgery. I am so happy I went for a second opinion with Dr. Bastian, who recommended NO surgery. Dr. Bastian is a brilliant doctor. Highly recommended

Wonderful doctors. DR. Champagne did several surgeries on my right hand to correct the surgical procedures that Dr Peter Campbell and another doctor screwed up. Campbell works with workers comp stating nothing g wrong with hand.

Dr. Bastian was a doctor picked for me for an emergency stay from an infection in my right foot. Dr's wanted him to cut open my foot, clean it up and problem solved. Well the night I was scheduled for surgery he arrived in my room and stated this was the last thing I needed. Dr. Bastian explained to me and my father (who was with me at the time) my leg was getting better with the IV antibiotics and cutting it open would just prolong it's healing. I needed my leg to be elevated higher (as it wasn't higher than my heart), as other dr's had it in the ER. He then started to take the end of the bed off, was on the ground looking for a way to get my foot higher while laying in bed. Dr. Bastian took the extra 5 mins to help me even tho he wasn't doing surgery on me after all, other dr's couldn't seem to find time 2 mins to help. At the time I met Dr. Bastian I had been in the hospital 7 days. He returned the following evening to check on me to see how I was doing. Dr. Bastian has GREAT bed side manners and cares for the outcome of his patients. I'm greatful he didn't operate on my foot just for the $ and was honest with me and let me know it wouldn't be a good idea and would be a long healing process. Dr Bastian and his assistant Jennifer are talented surgeons and really care. They took time to explain everything about my condition and the post surgical rehab. I would send my family and friends here.

Amazing surgeon

Maybe Dr.Bastian decides which patients he wants to treat with extra care and kindness. Reading these comments, I wish my husband would of had a good experience as well. To see the pain he's been through and still going through because of the mistakes made at the Az Center For Hand Surgery in Mesa is at most disheartening and infuriating. We go to these professional's for a reason. He had a skin graft on fingers. Sewtures were removed too soon. After seeing Dr. Bastian two separate occasions we've now found that two sewtures were left behind resulting in an infection in the finger which was the reason (infection) he had surgery in the first place. Therefore have to pay for a mistake made by that health office. Let alone the pain... We have been to other Dr.s in this practice that we would definitely recommend. Dr. Jonothan Yang and Dr. Todd Ricards. Who both seen my son for a broken nose and fractured eye socket. Thank you to all the great Dr.s you know who you are!! We need you. First, I like the guy and believe that the course of treatment he provided me was appropriate. I could nit-pick and get hung up on him not fully removing the residual nail bed in my amputated thumb, but I understand that that is really hard to assure. My issue is with price. Dr. Bastian and his practice charged nerve and cosmetic specialist prices for what resolved to be a routine open wound debridement and closure. Quite simply the cost of this surgery was just too high for the service rendered, given what the market seems to charge for this kind of treatment. Aside from the separate expense of the hospitals, ambulance, nurses, and other doctors that got in on the action, the bulk of the issue, was his fee, which his office would not reduce. I recommend that you not accept his services, which I understand can be quite specialized, until you have first worked out all billing between his practice and your insurer. They’ll need to know which tax ID Dr Bastian’s practice will be billing under. That seems to be very important and he's got a few. So be sure to get that when you are in pain and bleeding out, so you can make sure that your healthcare costs are manageable. He charged me over $8,500 to close the wound, for just his labor. From what I can tell these quality of operations are generally done for around four to six grand, including facility and attending expenses and fees. I was admitted through the emergency room for surgery. No insurance at the time. Dr came and said let’s wait. I’m in private practice and can afford to help you. Sure. By charging me office fees telling me I needed and Emg out of pocket and the officer stafff where horribly rude. I now have insurance and am scheduled. Dr stating so severe I’m literally considered disabled. Shame on Dr Basstian for canceling my surgery and then not helping me. In humane. They had no record of surgery being sched

Dr. Bastian completed emergency surgery to my son's hand from a dirt bike accident. He is amazing! Thanks for being so phenomenal and a master surgeon!

I had two surgeries on my hand which yielded terrible results. I had to see a new surgeon who told me that another surgery now is a serious matter because of what's already been done. The waiting times are bad in reference to when the doctor actually comes in to see you. One day I waited for 2 and 1/2 hours!!! I was told that my current condition was due to certain other causes which I absolutely refuse to believe. As far as I'm concerned, this surgeon is incompetent. Get a good M.D. instead

I went in may 8th with a cat bite dr Steven bastian did surgery on my hand drain the pus from my hand and arm and saved my life from the bacteria spreading from my hand to my heart thank you very much for your work and saving my life would recommended him to everyone thank you again
