The surgeries that Dr. Klafeta has performed on me (DBS, Back Surgery) have been extremely successful. There has been good preparation and follow-up.

If I could leave a zero star I would! Do not put your loved ones In this man's hands! My brother who was born with spinia bifida has a shunt and was experiencing issues with it after being in the hospital for 4 days finally went in a had a revision done, then had to go back in to replace twice. Was sent home. A week later still feeling not right he passed out, felt confused and was slurring his words, called ambulance and taken to local hospital (not close to mercy health in GR) Dr klafeta was informed and said "it's not a shunt issue". My brother was transferred to spectrum health Butterworth where they determined it WAS a shunt issue and the tube klafeta had replaced twice had a kink. The number reading st Mary's kept getting in the hospital during his first stay of .5 wasn't even a pressure reading (they kept telling us his pressure reading of .5 was good) it's a setting that the shunt was set at. I called the billing department to have my bill processed due to an insurance claim. The representative I spoke with was very rude and kept talking over me when I called.

Yes I recommend. He did a great job on my uper back surgery, implanting some new metal vertebrae. Thank you!!

Having had multiple surgeries with this doctor I must say he has been awesome, listens, explains, follow ups, the office staff. All go above and beyond. Wish I could give 10 stars

Dr. Klafeta was recommended by a PT at Mary Free Bed as the best doctor to help me with my lower back stenosis, arthritis and disc issues. I had already seen a Orthopedic Surgeon and wanted a second opinion. I gave Dr. Klafeta all the tests and reports from my family doctor and the Orthopedic Surgeon for review. His reply to me was that he doesn't do second opinions. I asked them WHY he wouldn't give me a second opinion and the answer was that there wasn't a reason given to the messanger. What would that be all about? Was this a professional courtesy? Is GR that small of a city not to be able to get a second opinion from a doctor? I will ask again when I go to his Office to pick up my original CD's of MRI's, CT Scans and X-Rays.

Hi I had to have my Neck done its been rough and still working with it but it has came a long ways since Dr Klafeta has done my Surgery and what I can say is he has Done a Miracle I was in so much Pain and all I can say is Thank you This Doctor knows his Job as his Professional Thank you !!!

When I had my severe TBI back in 2011, I don't believe I can put into words how grateful I am for having had Dr. Klafeta as my Neurosurgeon. He is a true life saver. Although I have never met him, I understand he is an outstanding individual. My TBI was so severe that doctors and nurses were surprised that I even survived my accident, but Dr. Klafeta saved my life. According to my family, he did my surgery in under an hour. I was in an induced coma for about a month after my brain surgery due to trauma and swelling/complications, but I believe Dr. Klafeta had a huge part in my successful and FULL recovery (maybe more even - hard to say). If he had not acted so quickly, recognized what was wrong, and conducted my surgery in the manner that he did, I don't believe I would be typing this today. My recovery was long and hard: Over a year of in and out-patient therapy (physical, occupational, and speech), but it was thanks to Dr. Klafeta that I was graced with the opportunity to even attend therapy. To top it off, his PA, Aaron, is outstanding. After his surgery, visits with Aaron, and my therapy; I went on to receive a degree in Neuroscience, work in the medical field, and now work for the State of Michigan and for the MDHHS. Needless to say, I could have never done all of this without him (getting emotional while typing this). I hope to meet you some day, Dr. Klafeta, and talk about the brain. Thank you. Thank you. I had two different conditions that required surgery. When I woke up from the surgery all my pain was gone. Easy recovery.

The level of experience and the confidence that Dr.Klafeta inside brings the patient an extra level of comfort and confidence

Has Dr. Klafeta ever helped someone with spasmodic dysphonia?

He saved my life with his expertise and outstanding team. I would never be where I am today without him. No one would have ever guessed I experienced such a terrible TBI. Thanks to him, I went on to get my degree, find an outstanding job, and continue living my life. Without him, my life would have been gone 7 years ago. Thank you Dr. Klafeta. You are a life saver.

Dr Klafeta was very professional and explained what needed to be done. He was personable and friendly. Other then issues contacting his nurse which was frustrating at times, I'm very happy with the results.

When we first met Dr. Steven Klafeta it quickly became obvious that he was listening to my husband talk. He asked important questions and waited patiently for the answer. He summarized my husband's health situation, gave his reccommendations and what he believed would be the result if we choose to go with him as my husbands surgeon. He had come highly reccommended by our pain specialist, Dr. Thomas Basch, and another patient who had undergone surgery with Dr. K. years earlier. We did ask him to do the surgery, and on Feb. 2, 2018 the surgery was performed. I am happy to say we are very pleased with Dr. Klafeta's expertise, he did an excellent job on my husband's back, and his team continues to stay in contact with us as my husband begins the journey back to health. His nurse, Becki, has always been available for our questions and concerns, she has always treated us with kindness and compassion. No pre op information on what to expect. After surgery, I received a call, while sitting in his office, saying they needed to cancel!! Never saw the Physician assistant the day of the surgery, but I was charged thousands of dollars. Find a better run office! Very poor.

Dr. Klafeta did DBS surgery on my mother and did a great job. He and his team explained the surgery very well and made sure she understood the entire process. They were professional and caring and did a great job so far. She still has to go through the 2nd surgery to implant the battery device, but my mom feels very confident and comfortable with Dr. Klafeta and his team. I know she will be happy with the final results of this process.

I have had 5 back surgeries done by other Drs , I am 2 weeks out from a spinal fusion that Dr.Klafata preformed . For the first time in 10 yrs I have hope that I may be able to live a pain free live without meds .. while it's still early on in my recovery I can say I haven't felt this good in years and so happy that I had my surgery..

Dr. Klafeta is not only a skilled surgeon but he takes the time to explain all the procedures that will happen so that I could make an informed decision. After a couple of complications, he was willing to listen to my concerns about the surgery and I could make an informed decision once we had talked about the pros and cons.

Dr Klafeta listened to my concerns about having surgery and allowed me to take the time I needed to make my decision. I ended up having surgery which I know now was the right thing. I appreciate greatly him working with me. Not only is he an amazingly skilled surgeon, he is also very kind.

Dr. Klafeta is the best. He gave me my life and livelihood back. I needed another surgery on my cervical spine. I had 3 done by a different physician. I was petrified. I'd worked with Dr. Klafeta at St. Mary's Hospital and saw his work, the results, and his professionalism. When more problems started again with my neck, I knew he was the surgeon for me. His nurse and PA are also outstanding. I will be seeing him again when I'm in town for my lower back. I trust him completely.

Dr. Klafeta performed a Lumbar Fusion on me on 9/15/2015. I knew of Dr. Klafeta as he performed a Lumbar Fusion on my brother a several years earlier. It was not easy to see him as they have very strict criteria but I think that is good! I met with Dr. Klafeta twice before I made the decision. Dr. Klafeta (and Becky-NP) treated me with diginity and respect--answered each and every question. Dr. Klafeta staff and his personal bedside manners are excellent.
