Dr. Stephen M Gutting

First visit....cursory interview. Hadn't looked at recent MRI till I mentioned it. Quick potential diagnosis which would only be ascertained by doing the possible surgical procedures. Neither of which was explained well. Told him I'd had many past pain injections which hadn't worked well, but as last set was at different hospital, wanted to see those also. Which he probably wouldn't review before next actual appointment. These days doctors never seem to be aware of test results before they actually see you. Maybe because of too many patients, or after Covid departures, but it only seems routine, rather at all personal. Any individual who has pains still needs to be seen as a person.

Just awful. What physician, in this century, leaves his patient screaming and crying in pain and begging to die FOR DAYS??? I begged my children to leave me alone and let me die. I refused to sign consent for another surgery, after he botched the first THREE. I don't know if it was Gutting or St. Elizabeth's, but avoid both. They are incapable of competent pain management, let alone neurosurgery.

It was on the phone, the office called because they need to have the app. An hour or more before I was to come in. Dr Gutting seemed rushed, you could tell he hadn't gone over my MRI which was 2-3 years old because he didn't know the head of the spine clinics name, which is usually on the MRI and he asked me in a very condescending childish manner why I couldn't remember the Drs name, I've had 2 strokes after my last surgery, an air bubble formed, also he didn't know why the tops of my feet were burning but my chiropractor knew it had something to do with the 4th and 5th vertebrae. I didn't get to talk to him about the nerves that are bunching together, it's called equads lucana or something like that. I have spurs in my neck, and when I put my head back I get a pressure headache and my hearing goes quiet, we didn't talk about that! My right leg keeps going numb when I'm standing, we didn't talk about that. We didn't talk about the stenosis at the base of my spine or at the 4-5 vertebrae. The ankylosis spondylitis and the other things because he didn't have the MRI in front of him. It was a poor excuse of a telephone visit! Dr. Gutting was very pleasant and very good at assessment and getting to the reason for the visit. His exam and explanation of not needing surgery was easy to follow. Thankyou Dr. Gutting. Mary Dailey

I went with my Dad for a consult with Dr Gutting he was amazing with my 84 year old father. He was informative and took the time to reassure us. Would recommend him to anyone.

This man obviously is a master at his profession. He was calm, well spoken yet down to earth. He understood all my concerns and did not rush me. I appreciated his opinion as my situation is not so cut and dry.

My research on Dr. Gutting paid off; he and his medical team, including the receptionists, were very kind, considerate and compassionate. More importantly, Dr. Gutting took me very seriously as a patient—I knew that I could trust him—no scare tactics to encourage surgery but absolutely very thorough in diagnostic testing. Saw him once and never heard from again. His office was suppose to contact me. N now they never heard of me. I don't know about someone like that. But makes you wonder about the doctor.

The doctor answered all my questions.. very Thorough. I would recommend him

One of the worst doctors I have ever seen. He was completely unprepared for the appointment, insisted there was nothing wrong with me despite evidence from radiology, and never followed up after promising to speak to another doctor. He also speaks like a know-it-all narcissist and needs to learn some people skills for Christ’s sake.

Referred to the doctor from PCP every time we saw him was a different story. We were told MRI showed nothing even though PCP said the results showed something. Asked us to go from Tsinyon to Saint Elizabeth's over an hour drive each way for EMG so we could get the appointment in two weeks. Called his office three days later to ask of appointment had been made told Can't do it call yourself yo make appointment got appointment 1 month later. Dr. Never filled out forms or replied to disability insurance co. Lost 1 month pay. Then in Brighton at St Elizabeth's hospital said EMG showed nothing now MRI inconclusive not a surgical issue screw you goodbye! Very nice doctor and staff were extremely helpful & friendly

This was not an in person meeting due to emergencies, weather. Even in view of that I felt I was given adequate time and attention to delineate my issues. I think Dr Gutting heard me, and took the time to discuss treatment and remedies. Great visit by phone.

Dr.Gutting is the best doctor I have ever had. He is understanding and take his time explaining everything in lamen terms. He’d rather go other routes before surgery n only suggest surgery when it’s very necessary. You can’t find a better neurosurgeon better than him.

Very friendly staff, I did not wait long at all to get appointments or to be seen by Dr Gutting. I would go back.

Dr. Gutting went above and beyond. I cannot speak highly enough about him and his team. He listened to my daughter's concerns and took her seriously where others had been dismissive. He performed a much-needed surgery and I'm happy to say she is feeling much better and it's only been 2 days since her surgery. THANK YOU DR. GUTTING. ❤️

My visit with Dr. Gutting was great! He took the time to listen to my concerns. He gave me honest and truthful solutions to my back issues. I feel that my health is in amazing hands!

Great doctor new his stuff cared about my issues

For 20 years I suffered without being able to turn my head always bending and twisting the body instead. He was the only surgeon ,and I checked with quite a few that would attempt the surgery and what a success it was he is a miracle worker to me I would highly recommend him. Dr. Stephen Gutting is absolutely amazing. He sees the whole person, not just the part he specializes in. He gets my “Green Book” stamp of approval. If you want a really good surgeon who’s not looking to cut you just for the sake of doing it and who honestly wants to help you heal, Dr Gutting is your doctor. Dr. Gutting And his assistant Lindsay are great!! The Secretary was sweet and caring! My questions were answered and we have a plan!

Just awful. Absolutely no concept of pain management, plus I was left disabled from a surgery that was supposed to be "routine." Dr. Gutting is horrible. Sure, he seems nice, but as a physician and a surgeon, he's terrible.

Extremely professional and reassuring. I felt very comfortable in his care and with his office.

Dr Gutting is very perfessional and knowledgeable about his services. He makes you feel extremely comfortable having a visit with him. I recommend everyone I know needing back services to him I rate him a 10 out of 10. 10 being the best.

I saw Dr. Gutting for a second opinion for my very serious spinal cord injury. He delayed my treatment for at least 6 months and still has not provided an opinion despite my many pleads for help, He maybe a good surgeon but in my opinion, he is unethical, unprofessional, and just plain rude and pompous. I am also an MD and his conduct has been morally indefensible. I will be contacting The Mass Board of health and my insurance company tomorrow. Good health to you all!

I had a back fusion done by Dr. Gutting in July, it has literally been life changing. His staff was unbelievable. I couldn’t be happier.

I really don't know what to say about my experience with Dr. Gutting besides OUTSTANDING!! In March of 2015 I had a lower spinal fusion of L4/L5 and Dr. Gutting was my surgeon. This Man has given me my life back in a way I can only describe as 1st to none. 1/15/2018 I was feeling so well I took a trip to Aruba and skydived!!! My simple advise is to ask as many questions as possible, b/c he & his staff are all knowing. Then, do what they advise without hesitation. Give feedback & do again??

Dr Gutting was incredibly efficient, friendly, and professional. He immediately identified the urgency of my case, clearly explained my options and schedulled surgery within 2 days of my first visit. He certainly has all the qualities we wish modern Dr's should have: incredible bed side manners, knowledge, and transpire unlimited knowledge. He runs a well organized team, and certainly their smiles resulted in my fast recovery! A team like this is not seen anylonger in modern Medicine O Caticha

Had 3 level ACDF. Wonderful, caring doctor who works miracles along with his PA, L.Stanley I had the utmost care from the first visit through the post operative visits. His surgical co-ordinator, Melanie, is very pleasant to work with. Always was on top of everything with a great attitude. Dr. Gutting has given me quality life back.
