I suffer from crippling UARS and Dr. Zaghi is one of a handful of medical providers in the US who understands and is able to treat this medical condition. I found his clinic after searching for 5+ years. I regained my life with his help, and I'm grateful for his research and practice. Thank you, Dr Zahgi!
Dr. Zaghi did a tongue tie release for my 4 yr old son. He was calm, patient, and caring during the procedure which put my son at ease. My son recovered very quickly from the procedure with no issues and since then there is noticeable improvement in speech and sleep breathing. The entire staff that we interacted with in scheduling, pre-meets, and assisting with the procedure were also very kind and helpful.
Highly recommend Dr. Zaghi and everyone at Breathe. I had a fantastic experience and would not hesitate to send friends and family to him.
I cannot say enough amazing things about Dr. Zaghi. I've been struggling with TMJ as a long-term problem, and I saw Dr. Zaghi for a tongue tie release to help with my issues. From the moment I met Dr. Zaghi I felt completely comfortable, supported and like I was a first-class patient. The procedure was completely painless, quick and seamless, and Dr. Zaghi had so much to do with that. My pre and post-op information was clear from the get-go, and I was never surprised at any point in the process. They do an amazing job of providing comforting care; they even gave me snacks before my procedure! My recovery went completely as expected, with no pain involved with no issues to report -- it couldn't have gone more smoothly. Dr. Zaghi is also supported by a staff who is helpful, SO kind, knowledgable and welcoming. I cannot say enough about Dr. Zaghi, if you have the opportunity to schedule a meeting with him, DO IT! It has been almost two weeks since getting my tongue tie released by Dr. Zaghi and I am incredibly happy with the results. The surgery has improved my quality of life significantly. It is so much easier to keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth, and I no longer have any issues with swallowing. It is difficult to say how much my breathing has improved during sleep since I have not had a sleep study, but I have been waking up feeling more refreshed than usual lately! This would make sense, because the posterior part of my tongue is now able to touch the roof of my mouth, which means it is not blocking my airway as much while I sleep, theoretically allowing my body to spend more time in uninterrupted sleep cycles. Dr. Zaghi also released some tension in my upper and lower lips, which makes keeping my lips closed much easier, and has the added benefits of improving the aesthetics and comfort of my smile since my lips are less strained. I felt safe and respected by Dr. Zaghi and everyone in the office, which is very important to me. During the procedure, the surgery sites were completely numb and I felt no pain. Dr. Zaghi cared about my comfort and checked in with me frequently. There was a part of the procedure where I could feel the tension getting released in my neck, which was super cool! I had less pain than expected after the procedure, and most of the swelling was gone after a few days. Now, almost two weeks later, I only feel soreness when doing my prescribed stretches. It is important to note that I have been doing myofunctional therapy before and after the surgery, which has been a crucial part of my success and is helping to prevent re-attachment at the surgery sites. Overall, I highly recommend Dr. Zaghi and The Breathe Institute for all of your tongue and airway-related issues! Dr. Zaghi is truly an expert at what he does. I really appreciate his enthusiasm for raising awareness of the impact of tongue ties on breathing and sleep. He is improving not only the lives of his own patients, but of all the patients of every doctor he teaches and all the people like myself who come across The Breathe Institute’s educational content in their search for answers. Dr. Zaghi is one of the smartest and kindest doctors I have ever met. Dr. Zaghi cares about me as a person and about improving my health. I came to Dr. Zaghi in early 2021 with sleep and breathing issues. Dr. Zaghi had me do a sleep study, examined me, assessed my CT scan, and laid out an entire plan for improvement one step at a time. I felt no pressure to do any procedure. In 2021, I had both a tongue tie release and a Vivaer nasal procedure to open up my nasal passages completed by Dr. Zaghi. I can sleep and breathe so much better now and am so happy with the results. Dr. Zaghi's staff is also a joy to interact with. They are friendly and efficient. I cannot recommend Dr. Zaghi enough. He was absolutely the BEST. His knowledge, his confidence, and his ability to know exactly how to release my tongue tie was worth the 2+ hour drive to him in Walnut Creek. I'm 2 weeks out since my surgery with Dr. Zaghi and have had very little pain and am healing quickly and beautifully.
Our experience with Dr. Zaghi was beyond positive. He did an amazing job not just at the septoplasty surgery my daughter had, but went out of his way to talk to her over and over until she knew how it went, how to take care of herself and feel supported. I've never had a surgeon/MD give me his personal number to check in to make sure we were doing ok. He called us daily afterwards to make sure her recovery was going ok. I could not recommend someone more highly. He was well worth it for us to go out of network and pay a bit extra. Best medical service we've ever received. Great office staff too! Dr. Zaghi is one of the most honest, reputable, and amazing Doctors I’ve ever come across. Not only did he quickly diagnose the issue he was able to perform a procedure that caused her instant relief and healing. I am a Certified Orofacial Myofunctional Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, patient, and parent of a patient, and I strongly believe that Dr. Zaghi is the top ENT, sleep specialist, and tongue tie specialist in the country. When I brought my own young children to see Dr. Zaghi, he calmed my childrens’ anxiety immediately. He actually performed magic tricks for them in order to relax them for the appointment, and they loved this! They both had so much fun at the appointment that they got involved in doing magic on their own when we returned back home. He is able to understand the intricate details of the oral facial system as it relates to sleep, airway, skeletal growth, and soft tissue dysfunction. More than most physicians out there, he has a comprehensive understanding of tongue and lip tie and the relationship to airway and functioning. He knows the importance of treating such issues at a young age, and he was able to help patients of all ages Dr. Zaghi engages in ongoing research in order to strengthen the field and to help with evidence-based decisions and treatment. I refer patients from hours away to his office, as he is one of very few physicians that have such comprehensive understanding of such issues. He has been both a colleague and a mentor to me, and the airway community is grateful he has chosen this field, as he is bettering the lives of many children and adults around the world. Moreover, his staff including Leyli are so warm, friendly, and upbeat that they make the interactions with their office even better. THANK YOU DR. ZAGHI AND THE BREATHE INSTITUTE! Excellent experience, Getting a combined rhinoplasty, septoplasty, and reduction of the turbinates at age 63. And I am very healthy, no major issues. But my sleep was not as restful as it could be. Surgery has been the cure, so far, just 2 weeks afterwards. Thankfully referred via my myofunctional Therapist: Victoria Wright, RDA, Carlsbad, CA and Evelyn Maruko, DDS, Orthodontics in Anaheim Hills, CA. He is truly so very highly trained, his quote to me: "90% of the Other Doctors (ENT'S) would not touch you. I can do it, and you will notice it immediately. What he said: True!

I recently had tongue surgery and it was amazing. Doctor and all his staff are great. I definitely recommend it.
Dr. Zaghi is one of the most caring & knowledgeable providers I have ever experienced. He changed the way I interact with medicine in general, in a positive way.
Dr. Zaghi and his staff are wonderful! Dr. Z did a great job with my procedures and always showed me so much compassion and kindness. Jen is so great too -- always super responsive and helpful.

Dr. Zaghi is the best of the best! To start, the office is stunning and his staff are so welcoming. I saw him yesterday, and am blown away with how much I have learned. I had no idea that my tongue posture could affect so many other aspects of my general health, from my breathing to my shoulder and neck pain! I was so impressed with how they have a scanner in office and everyone gets a scan included in their initial consultation so there is no need to go to an outside scanning facility- it's all done right there within minutes! He also educates his patients with a TV screen and shows images during your consultation, as well as real time videos of the inside of your nose and ears. It is pretty remarkable. If you or anyone you know is having trouble breathing, sleeping, or has TMJ, I highly recommend seeing Dr. Zaghi- they do not take insurance, but honestly I think in the long run you save so much time and energy that it works out to be the best decision so you can go straight to the problem and feel better sooner. My son and I have both been treated by Dr Zaghi. We both have had amazing experiences with Dr Zaghi and with the entire staff. The Dr's surgical acumen is unrivalled, his staff truly top-notch. We are grateful for their ongoing care.
I came to Dr. Zaghi’s clinic with very bad pain in my ear. After going to many other doctors, I wasn’t expecting much, as they all had done the same - prescribed drops, antibiotics or both. Upon arriving, Dr. Zaghi’s staff greeted me warmly. Their office was well maintained, staffed and professional. Dr. Zaghi came out to meet me. After describing my issue, I was immediately taken to get my ears CAT scanned and within minutes Dr. Zaghi found the source to my issue- a portion of my left ear canal was closed and I had to go through a tiny procedure to open it. This would allow all the medicated drops to get through! Dr. Zaghi completeled the procedure on the stop and it was painless. He gave me very specific instructions as well as helpful practices so as to prevent it from reoccurring and for keeping a healthy ear. Within a couple of hours of the procedure, my ear was feeling better and started to heal. I cannot begin to tell you what a weight it carried off my shoulders! Skeptical of Kaiser's recommendation that my daughter needed both a septoplasty & turbinate reduction, I sought out Dr Zaghi's professional opinion. It took him less than it's taking me to write this review, to use his brilliant expertise to conclude she needed no such surgeries! (by the way, the process of sending records and information to his office prior to our appointment was painless). Dr Zaghi then took his time in gathering more information and explaining ways to deal with the root causes of symptoms which resulted in her frequent congestion. We left in complete confidence that we had not only avoided unnecessary surgery, but could do so with complete peace of mind. I HIGHLY recommend Dr Zaghi and am so grateful for having found him! Dr Zaghi is absolutely PHENOMENAL! He did a phone consultation for evaluation of tongue and lip tie on our child and he was unbelievably thorough, professional, organized, and knowledgeable. He listened intently to our concerns and impressions and then guided us through a treatment plan. To my surprise, it did not involve us coming to LA for a procedure (he is ethical and not eager to surgically treat patients when it is not best to do so). He recommended we do therapy with a speech pathologist/OMT and taught us several stretches and exercises to do and wants to reevaluate when our child is older. If the tie needs to be released at that time, we will proceed and there will be a greater chance of success. Dr Zaghi is honest and kind and has the best interests of his patients at heart. Amazing doctor. He cut my tongue tie, it was painless and now I have much less pain in my neck shoulders jaw and back. He's extremely thorough, kind and skilled.
I join the choir of praise of other patients:) Dr. Zaghi, thank you for your professionalism and great job! As a professional singer, I was of course very cautious about the procedure and potential risks. I know now, that it was the right decision to do the operation, and to do it with you. Thank you!
Dr. Zaghi performed the tongue tie release surgery earlier this year on me. I am full of gratitude to Dr. Zaghi as this procedure has dramatically improved my health! My quality of health and sleep was at 70% prior to surgery and 90-95% after. Thank you Dr. Zaghi!

Today marks 6 months since my tongue tie release (lingual frenuloplasty) with Dr. Zaghi and his nurse Gloria. As a mom of two who were both born with tongue ties, I became aware of how tongue ties affect babies and children. With my new found awareness and the help of Jen, I realized the affects my tongue tie had on my daily life. Growing up, I experienced a narrowing of the palate and overcrowded teeth resulting in a lot of oral surgery and orthodontia. As I became an adult, I began to realize that no matter how much self myofascial release, massage and chiropractic I tried, my neck and shoulders were never relieved of tightness or pain. I met with Dr. Zaghi via Zoom and he said I was a perfect candidate for the lingual frenuloplasty. He then set me up with myofunctional therapy to help me prepare for the procedure. This is where my awareness increased and I realized how my tongue was restricted and not functioning properly. After a about a month of myofunctional therapy, I was ready for the procedure. On 12/4/2019, I had my procedure done. Everyone in the office was so welcoming and professional. Dr. Zaghi and Gloria walked me through every step and made sure I remained comfortable. After about 20-30 minutes, the procedure was done and I was on my way with some medication and supplies for recovery. The recovery was short and the pain was managed. I had a few post operative myofunctional therapy appointments to help stretch the tongue to keep the recovery going and to help me with my new found tongue freedom. During the procedure, I felt immediate relief and over the last 6 months, I have not had any neck and shoulder pain or migraines what so ever. My posture has improved tremendously as well. I am so happy with the results from the procedure and would highly recommend Dr. Zaghi and his associates at The Breathe Institute. "Hi! I came all the way from Nova Scotia (Halifax) on Canada's east coast to see Dr. Zaghi and my Sanda! As a Public Health Nurse dealing with tongue-tied babies, I did my research to find THE BEST doctors in Halifax to do this tongue-tie release on adults (I was 59), but none had the experience and follow-up (pre/post) procedures with myofunctional therapy like these guys. I think myofunctional therapy is critical to success. I had many weeks of pre-op Zoom session with Sanda Valcu-Pinkerton for myofunctional therapy to prepare my tongue and oral tissues/muscles, etc., for the changes that would occur post frenectomy. She taught me stretches and strengthening exercises and gave me tips on how to learn to exclusively nasal-breathe. She was funny and extremely knowledgeable...and I consider her a dear friend. Dr. Zaghi was brilliant, skilled, and very reassuring during the pre-op consult via Zoom and during the procedure itself. I had complete trust in him and, as an old OR and OB nurse, I am a hard marker. Immediately after the procedure, I felt "longer" through my core....and over the next weeks, the headaches I had daily since age 16 decreased by over 50% (miraculous for me!). I wake up less at night now and, once these CoVid restrictions ease more, I will have another sleep study to see if, objectively, my sleep apnea has improved. In the months following, Sanda followed me, ensuring I was doing my exercises correctly and getting full benefit from my procedure. Dr. Zaghi provided follow-up appointments via Zoom as well. The office staff were always courteous and efficient and I felt well cared for all around. Dr. Zaghi is a trail blazer in his field; educating many on the importance of airway access. He is extremely knowledgeable and credible in his field. My son and I traveled just to see him and his team and I would do it all over again.
A very talented and caring surgeon - my deviated septum surgery and tongue tie release were seamless, and I was breathing easy the day after my surgery. As a dentist who studies the airway, I wanted the best to perform my procedure and I was not disappointed!
I am so extraordinarily grateful to Dr. Zaghi and Joy Moeller, my oromyofunctional therapist, with whom Dr. Zaghi often works. At the age of 61 I am having physical and emotional changes I would never have dreamed possible, because of their skill and caring. I had a frenectomy done to correct my tongue tie when I was 7, but the surgeon did not go deep enough to remove the posterior ties and I did not have any therapy to retrain my tongue, so while my speech improved, little else did. I have been a mouth breather with nearly daily headaches, scoliosis, such a tiny palate that I had very severe constant sinus infections until I had a palate expansion, poor sleep, sleep apnea, a forward neck, and a fair amount of anxiety that I became skilled at handling but was always there below the surface. Now, a year after Dr. Zaghi performed my frenectomy, I stand straight and tall, my dowagers hump is nearly gone and every month my scoliosis straightens out more. Headaches and TMJ are nearly a thing of the past. I sleep so much better with my tongue cradled in the top of my mouth and my mouth is always closed. I breathe exclusively through my nose and as I complete the oromyofunctional therapy I am continually amazed at the things my tongue could not do, but now can learn how to do! My face is expanding, the tension lines are disappearing and I look younger. But most importantly, the constant nagging anxiety shifted the moment that Dr. Zaghi clipped the deepest ties. I started laughing. I couldn’t believe I was sitting in a dentists chair with my mouth numb and my frenum cut open and all I wanted to do was laugh because the sensation of pressure in my neck and head and shoulders that I thought was just normal for all humans, was gone! And with that sense of pressure, that sense of something wrong, the anxiety also dissolved. The surgery would have been more than worth it for just that shift and the joyfulness that accompanies it. As time has gone on, and with the oromyofunctional therapy my body is retrained to use it’s new freedom, there are also emotional shifts that accompany no longer being forced into having my head push forward. My center of gravity is now in myself, rather than out in front of me, toward others. I am much more solid on my feet and also in my perspective in the world. I can find my balance in a very different way and am much more grounded in myself. I can only imagine how different my life would have been if my first frenectomy had gone deep enough! But I am so delighted to have these changes now, that I only say that to encourage any parents who are on the fence about bringing their children in to please gift them with a life without the limitations that a tongue tie imposes. I also want to say that I was scared to do the surgery because the first one, when I was 7, was done with inadequate anesthesia and I was very traumatized by it. Dr. Zaghi and the wonderful myofunctional therapist who works with him are an incredible team. They made the experience so easy and so caring that I was not afraid at all during it. And when I walked out I was at least an inch taller and floating on air. The healing is fast and simple and the procedure itself is painless and very rapid. I also want to say that Dr. Zaghi is not only an incredibly skilled and ground breaking surgeon, he is also one of the kindest and most caring people I have ever met. He is so invested in the well being of his patients and committed deeply to changing the old paradigms of treatment for so many symptoms related to tongue tie. I am so glad that Joy Moeller directed me to him, and I would strongly suggest that if you are thinking of having the surgery, you do it with him, because you do not want my experience where a lesser surgeon misses the deeper ties and leaves you tongue tied posteriorly, which may never be identified if someone is not as skilled as Dr. Zaghi. Thank you Dr. Zaghi and your team, for you work and professionalism! I first learned about the connection between TMJ issues having a posterior tongue tie in a post- graduate training program for dental and medical professionals. Being a dental hygienist, and seeing the benefits of the posterior tongue tie release, I decided to have mine released by Dr. Zaghi. The procedure was easy, quick, and painless, and overall has helped me with my TMJ issue of clenching. Dr. Zaghi is very down to earth and explains everything in a way that is easy to understand. Sanda, his OMT, helped me relax prior to the procedure, went over what to expect and do during, and after. They put on music while the procedure was being done- my choice of pandora radio! Leyli, was very helpful and kind. Thank you for leading this field of Oralfacial myofuncyional therapy, and helping out so many people. It is so hard to express in words how much I genuinely love Dr. Zaghi. I will be forever grateful to him for what he has done for my daughter. I have been on, what felt like an endless journey for answers to my daughters chronic mouth breathing. I noticed it since she was born but I never understood then the horrible consequences that would manifest and I certainly didn't expect the long and expensive road we had in front of us. As a first-time mom I wrote off her mouth breathing and heavy drooling as something a baby did but when she became three years old I knew I could not ignore this any longer. I read everything I could about this and went down the list to try and find an answer. We went to three ENTs (to rule out tonsils/adenoids), two allergists (to see if it was environmental) and we even spent $3500 to get her in early orthodontic care (thinking it was structural/palate). We even threw in myofunctional therapy, buteyeko breathing and buying a very expensive "lip trainer" from Singapore for good measure. Thousands of dollars later and I still did not have any sort of progress with my daughters mouth breathing, just growing frustration and our time and money wasted. After realizing the money spent on orthodontic care was not working either I searched for a different orthodontist. I stumbled upon a website for Dr. William Hang (another amazing, progressive thinking doctor) and after consulting with him he had me get in touch with Dr. Zaghi. I thought to myself we've already been to three different ENT's, what could a fourth one tell me? But that chance phone call changed my daughters life. After driving all the way to LA and meeting with his extremely sweet and kind staff we got to meet the incredibly nice Dr. Zaghi. After a few seconds in her mouth he told us that she had a posterior tongue-tie. Tongue Tie! All these years of searching and he gave me an answer in 30 seconds! I almost couldn't believe it, it was so simple for him but all this time it wasn't simple for us. There is not much information online discussing tongue tie and mouth breathing but there should be. And there are even fewer doctors who make the correlation to tongue tie/mouth breathing/other health problems. But if you are a mouth breather, or love a mouth breather then do yourself a favor and go see Dr. Zaghi. There are very few ENT doctors who are looking at this the way that Dr. Zaghi is. You can tell that this is his passion and life's work. He is doing things other doctors are not and he is definitely paving the way for others and bringing awareness to tongue ties. Mouth breathing is not normal. It's never normal but for some reason it has become normal in our society. My poor daughter spent eight years not being able to physically close her mouth because of her tongue tie. That's why none of the things we did worked, her tongue was in the way! I could never get her to breast-feed adequately, she was a heavy drooler, hyperactive from the lack of sleep, snored, heavy bags under her eyes etc. All of these things were from the lack of oxygen she was receiving by being a chronic mouth breather from her tongue tie. This is why the work that Dr. Zaghi does is monumental. Ground breaking even. I can assure you that as the years go on only more awareness will be brought to this subject. And as if I did not sing Dr. Zaghi's praises enough, I also would like to add that he is a genuinely nice doctor, the nicest doctor we've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He actually smiles, and takes his time and I've never met a doctor who said, "I love questions!" I am also happy to report that my daughter had frenectomy surgery this June and the first thing she said was "mom I can close my mouth without thinking about it!" Like I said... We Love Dr. Zaghi! It is so hard to express in words how much I genuinely love Dr. Zaghi. I will be forever grateful to him for what he has done for my daughter. … More
Dr. Zaghi performed tongue release surgery on my two young children. I resisted the idea for a very long time but have to say I am so grateful we ended up doing the operation. My oldest son had his operation first and within 2 weeks he was sleeping through the night more often. He stopped waking up with 'night terrors' and most of all he just looks more rested and our mornings are so much better. My youngest just had his done and he is so much better in the mornings, I am afraid to jinx it but he is not crying and upset. He is the baby I was used to before when he napped. He is so chatty and happy and reasonable. His sleep is already so much better and his tongue isn't even fully healed. You have helped my children so much. Their lives will forever be improved. As a runner and swimmer, I am active and enjoy good health. I am thrilled to report major improvement to my range of motion, stamina and overall athletic ability since my visit to Dr. Zhagi last October during which he skillfully released my tongue-tie. Prior to my visit, my stroke count for freestyle 25m was 16-17 on average and the fastest time I recorded for a 25m was 25 seconds. I had the surgery on a Wednesday and immediately felt the ligaments in my body from my head to my calves release tension. I went to swim team the following Saturday morning and my coach stopped me within the first 5 min of practicing and said that my form looked amazing. I also felt a greater range of motion in my neck, shoulders and torso as I was swimming. I swam a 25m in 14 strokes and 20 seconds! I have noticed a positive effect on my endurance in both running and swimming as my body now functions with greater mobility. I also sleep better and recover more quickly from workouts. I worked with a Myofunctional Therapist both prior to and following surgery which I found very helpful. I loved the synergistic way Dr. Zhagi and his staff worked with my therapist and with me to achieve these outstanding life-changing results!! What You Need To Know: -accurate and quick diagnosis -focuses on "functional surgery" to help patients -doesn't prescribe surgery for everything -great with nervous/anxious patients -has a sweet personality -is passionate about what he does -is willing to explain everything as complexly or simply as you need -checks in with patients during procedure (lingual frenectomy) -wizard at local anesthetic Detailed Experience: I was nervous going in. I knew I needed a tongue frenectomy, but needing it didn't make me less nervous. Dr. Zaghi came in to review the plans for the surgery and showed me a detailed calendar of the healing process and what to expect and then asked me how I was feeling. After establishing that I was nervous but ready, Sanda came in and gave me a tongue and gum massage to try to loosen and relax the area for the procedure. Then she went through how to massage my tongue post-surgery and gave me some tongue exercises to perform while healing (these really make the surgery more effective and are vital to recovery, so push through the pain). Sanda applied local topical anesthetic to my tongue and gave me a stress-toy to squeeze just in case during the procedure. Dr. Zaghi asked me what kind of music I liked and let it play in the background. He checked a few places under my tongue, asking me if I could feel any pain. Then he went in with the needle to anesthetize further. He waited for the anesthetic to kick in and then the procedure went smoothly. He would ask me to make certain shapes with my tongue, then he would pinch a part, ask me if I could feel it, and if I indicated no, he would cut. He constantly would check the anesthesia before cutting, and if I hesitated, he would reinject and wait to make sure I wouldn't experience any pain. After we got through the front tie, he stopped and told me that the tension in the back sides needed to be released, but we could stop and wait for the front to heal for a month before going back in. He also explained that continuing would mean a longer recovery. After deciding to continue, the rest of the procedure went as well as before. While closing me up with stitches he explained I might need a revision, but we would re-evaluate after I had healed. Healing for me was relatively easy, and I kept up with the exercises I was shown. Swallowing immediately afterwards was so much easier even with the pain. My sleep quality immediately improved, and my dreams were longer and more vivid. And for the first time in my life, when I woke up I felt energized. When I went back in, Dr. Zaghi found that I did not even need a revision. I can't express how thankful and how happy I was to go through with this. It truly changed my life. Dr. Zaghi performed a tongue tie release for me in March 2017 after I had noticed symptoms that concerned me regarding my sleep & oral posture. I decided to do a take home sleep study & was not surprised to find that I had evidence of mild obstructive sleep apnea & was clenching so hard that I almost bit through my tongue. I knew that Dr. Zaghi had done a study at Stanford that showed myofunctional therapy could reduce sleep apnea in adults by 50%. I also knew that my tongue needed help as I had a stage four tongue tie & as a result couldn't get my tongue in the right position for proper rest oral posture during the day or while sleeping. I was also aware that the tongue tie release needed to be done after a series of myofunctional therapy exercises to firm & tone the tissue for the best outcome. Dr. Zaghi is an incredible doctor. The procedure went so fast & he was so gentle. I didn't feel a thing & was surprised how incredible I felt after it was done. I literally felt like a net had been released from my head & neck. I suddenly felt more freedom to turn my head without restriction. I could finally get my tongue to the roof of my mouth. Months later I repeated the sleep study & it came back negative! I was so relieved. I even stopped wearing my orthodontic retainer since my tongue is in the correct position during sleep & during the day with the proper rest oral posture. I don't clench or grind any longer & wake up with my tongue to the spot! I also noticed how easy it is for me to talk without struggling to get my lips & tongue to articulate words. I had never noticed this in the past as it was my norm. Now that I've had the tongue tie release, I continue to notice all the benefits of this rather simple yet amazing procedure. Dr. Zaghi is a master at what he does & would recommend him to anyone looking for better health & function for your tongue, mouth & airway! We discovered my son Luke, 7 years old, had a teeth grinding issue. A boy that young and happy shouldn’t be grinding his teeth. For the past few years, Luke did have trouble breathing at night. Grinding helps him to breathe at night. So after 6 months of visiting specialists, Dr. Zaghi was the key to it all. He made it all make total sense. From the initial consult, I knew I was in good hands. The examination was so thorough. Dr. Zaghi’s knowledge and approach was unlike anyone we had seen and I just knew we were finally in the right place! It was diagnosed that Luke would need both a tonsillectomy and lingual frenuplasty. It turns out that Luke was a bit tongue tied which has caused Luke’s top jaw to stop growing forward. This stunted growth in his upper jaw has caused him to have a blocked airway at night. Ultimately this caused the grinding. Dr. Zaghi prescribed pre and post myofunctional therapy for optimal results. We had the surgery and life is completely changing for our little Luke. He now sleeps with his mouth closed and no grinding. He has a clear airway and there is no more heavy breathing at night. The continued therapy is teaching him how to use his tongue properly so we don’t end up where we started. One more thing to mention, the day before the surgery I was having some insurance issues at the hospital’s fault. Leyli and Jen in the office worked tirelessly helping me to get everything in order. I could NOT have done it without them. Dr. Zaghi and the Breathe Institute is just plain wonderful and the official ENT for the Millers. After decades of horrible snoring my fiancé had finally gotten a sleep apnea diagnosis and began using a CPAP. However, he never could fully breathe through his nose, even in the daytime, due to a deviated septum and nasal polyps. Although he was religious about his CPAP use, for the nights that he was unable to use it (perhaps we were camping or forgot to pack it on a trip), we were miserable. I finally convinced him to go to the VA where, as a veteran, he is eligible for care. I didn’t tell him, but I was a bit nervous, as I had had a friend who had nasal surgery at a private facility twice and was still not able to breathe properly. We were assigned to Dr. Zaghi. I don’t know how we were so lucky to get this top-notch surgeon who traveled up to the VA in Palo Alto from SoCal to treat vets but I feel like we won the lottery. Dr. Z explained the whole septoplasty & polyp removal procedure, carried it out in the time expected, and most critically, gave explicit instructions for the post-surgery wound care. He was in Palo Alto twice more for the follow-up exams. The surgery was a complete success. My fiancé’s recovery was speedy and problem-free, he can now breathe normally through his nose, and his snoring has been virtually eliminated. I would say that one of life’s greatest luxuries is falling asleep in your beloved’s arms, something I thought would never be possible. Easy and straightforward medical care! I can now breathe from my nose.
I am a Veteran of the United States Coast Guard. I met Dr. Zaghi at the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital. I've had problems breathing I thought because of my sinuses for over 40 years. I met with many Doctors over two years while aggressively to fix this issue. None of them seemed to listen. I was very fortunate when I went to look into this issue again. Dr. Zaghi was there. He's the first to put a camera in my nose and show me exactly what the problems were. He thoroughly explained to me all the options of what could be done, I choose to have the operation that we decided on. It was found by MRI that I had had a broken nose that prevented air passing through my left nostril. The operation was a success. In fact, since I now live in southern California and so I would not have to travel back to Palo Alto, he let me see him for my follow-up visit in Encino without charge. Thanks to Dr. Zahgi for the first time in 40 years I can finally breathe properly, my snoring is gone and my frequent sinus drainage has stopped. Dr. Zaghi is a model for patient-focused physicians. He never allowed his considerable expertise override his personal commitment to doing what was right for his patients. He handled a complex situation between medical institutions in a manner that made the challenge nearly invisible to me, the patient. Dr. Zaghi, I want to express my appreciation for your excellent medical care. Coming to see you was a process that took a few years of encouragement from my wife and overcoming my pride to accept the fact that I might have a breathing problem. After several appointments, I was referred to you for a consultation on the options for improvement. During our first appointment, I was excited about your energy, expertise, and thoroughness of explaining the condition that I had. What helped me the most, is when I asked you for your professional opinion, you advised me that having the procedure is what you recommend. That was enough for me to agree to the surgery. Up until the surgery date, I as very nervous about the procedure. Mostly, I was still uncertain about whether or not I had a real problem, or what the outcomes of surgery would be. However, your preparation & personal attention to me gave me confidence and relieved my anxiety. More specifically, when you told me that you would be studying the pictures the night before, I knew that you were going to start the surgery prepared and with a plan. My life is significantly improved. I usually look to financial success as the biggest determining factor of my life improvement, but now I know that simply breathing without restriction and having relief from the removal of my tonsils is an incredible quality of life improvement for me. I can breath with an ease that I have never experienced ever before in my life. I can smell new things, such as the pleasant smell of a clean shirt. I could never smell this before! Dr. Zaghi is a fantastic doctor! He performed a maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) procedure on me due to my severe sleep apnea. One thing that really stood out about him was his honesty and candor. If you want all of your questions to be answered regarding your surgery and post-op, Dr. Zaghi was very detailed and forthcoming. That was a very important characteristic that I wanted in a surgeon. I didn't want anyone to "sugar coat" the truth to me and then realize that I was in for a shocker when the time actually came. Dr. Zaghi was especially caring, sympathetic, empathetic, (and every other synonym that I can think of that reflects someone being sensitive and understanding) with my post-op recovery.
