Dr. Solomon Daniel Meltzer

He may be a good clinician but I hope if he is ever elderly and ill a Doctor will have more patience and be less rude to him than he was to my husband. Aging is filled with indignities and they should not be added to by those who are supposed to be healers.

Have been seeing Dr. Meltzer for close to two years now after moving from Florida. He is a great doctor, very professional, knowledgeable and caring when it comes to mental health. I had seen a few other doctors in the area that were only concerned with pushing medications and seemed to care very little for what was going on in my personal life and how that could affect my mental wellbeing. Shortly after moving to Virginia my Primary Care physician asked that I see a specialist for medication management. There were no providers in the Virginia area who were accepting new patients and my insurance. Luckily, Dr. Meltzer, who wasn't under the umbrella of a larger hospital system, was willing to take me in as a new patient. I was a bit apprehensive about my first appointment; the initial intake conversations were a bit dry/direct. But after meeting Dr. Meltzer in person I was relieved to find he was personal, warm and very understanding. I thought my appointments would be similar to those I'd had from previous specialist who were minimal in their personal interactions and simply there to write a prescription. Instead, I looked forward to my appointments and more than willing to drive to Maryland each month. Dr. Meltzer works for himself and doesn't fall under the umbrella of a large corporate hospital and it shows. I was sad when Covid-19 forced my appointments to be virtual but Dr. Meltzer made the transition very easy. He went out of his way to send me my written prescription since he couldn't access the military pharmacy system. He also went out of his way to deal with the institutional bureaucracy of the military when it came time for me to move with my husband overseas. He was not helpful in providing direction to other possible clinicians in our state as one must live in Maryland for treatment! A truly dedicated professional would have reached out to provide suggestions- All about HIS practice; in short, money! ???? ???? ????

I don’t even know where to start as I have never had a worse experience when making an appointment, let alone with a medical professional who is supposed to be a support to patients. I attempted to make an appointment with Dr. Meltzer through email as this was the only way he allowed appointments to be made. After a few very cold and impersonal emails, we decided on a date and time. While I was apprehensive about going to the appointment due to the nature of his emails, I decided to give it a try. He followed up the email with another email requesting I fill out a credit card authorization form in order to make the intake appointment. I was happy to fill this out as I understand his time is valuable but did not feel comfortable sending my credit card information over email. I asked if I could sign and send the form with the last 4 digits of my credit card and then call him with the remainder. His response was that he did not feel I was the correct fit for his practice. What?? I’m not sure how my request led to his response, but alas it did. I never made it into his office but honestly am a bit scared what might have happened if I had. He did such a good job! I felt like he really understood me.

I have seen Dr. Meltzer for over a year now. When I went in to see him I was having the hardest time in my life. He helped me turn things around 100%. He is warm, caring, and easy to work with. He is my third psychiatrist since I was a teenager and he is the best. I was nervous about restarting medications, and he always listened to my concerns. I have known and worked alongside of Dr. Meltzer in various clinical settings (including outpatient and hospitals) since 2007. In my opinion, he is one of the brightest, most considerate, and insightful psychiatrists I have ever met. He is a skilled therapist, which is a rare find in psychiatry these days, while also managing a growing forensic practice and a very sensible (also rare!) approach to medication management. He has my highest recommendation; I would send my family members and loved ones to his practice. You will be in good hands here! arrogant and disrespectful. just medicates without caring about my opinion.

It may be beneficial for you to know that I cancelled an appointment with this doctor because it snowed and the roads were icy. I rescheduled the appointment. I am being billed for the appointment on the snow day, and the doctor told me I should have called Uber. The doctor also states in writing that if you need to change an appointment it must be done a week in advance or you will be charged. It seems "Money" is more important to this doctor than the patient. Unfortunate!

Do not visit Dr. Meltzer under any circumstances. He will push you to attend therapy with him twice a week and then try to get you into his group therapy. He seems to do this with every patient. A major red flag since treatment is a one-size-fits-all proposition. His cancellation policy is absurd: 5 business days notice with no exception for unexpected illness after which you will be stuck paying the full freight for the missed session. He forgets previous session details and is inattentive.

Extremely unprofessional. Went here as a new patient, and was told, after having an appointment made for a month and confirming it three days before, that they didn't have me on the schedule. After driving a half hour, they would not even try and fit me in. After this, they told me they couldn't fit me in for over a month, even though it was their fault that my appointment wasn't listed. Will not be trying to go back, and will be dissuading others from trying to go here.

He has zero empathy, zero advice, zero recommendations pharmacology wise for this 100% disabled Veteran. He has literally thrown his hands up like he has no hope. How is that supposed to make a patient feel? I gave him the old college try for more than a year. What a waste of time.

This doctor is consistently late for appointments. He does not even arrive at the office until 40 minutes after his first appointment of the day. His time is apparently more valuable than mine. Pick another provider who cares about their patients.

They canceled 2 appts two days prior to each appt(roughly took SIX months to see him) and also when I finally visited his office, I had to wait an HOUR without any explanation or apology. I was meeting interns prior to seeing Dr. Meltzer for less than 5 minutes and the whole process took me TWO and HALF hours... What a joke! When I mentioned about 2 cancellations prior to seeing him, he seemed offended and didn't even say anything. They couldn't even proceed all the required testings because of their tardiness and asked me to make another appt. Not to mention a receptionist forgot to send my refer to the insurance company and now I have to clean up their mistake. If I could, I would give NEGATIVE five stars!

I don't have any doubt that this doctor is very knowledgeable but his problems is that he doesn't really seem to care about their patients recovery, from the very first appointment he tells you that you have a chronic disease therefore why taking therapy with him because the meds are the only solution.

Dr. Meltzer has been so helpful. He is kind, patient, and thoughtful. I always look forward to seeing him for weekly therapy, and have recommended him to friends and coworkers who all have had great experiences.

The worst psych doctor ever! He prescribed me an antidepressant without warning me of any side effects. Months later, I am partially disabled. He said I can stop it abruptly and didnt even say anything about withdrawals. His visits are way overpriced! Please stay away from this criminal!!

Dr Meltzer offers a compassionate and practical application of techniques to help his patients. He is an active and caring listener who offers professional guidance with a very conservative approach to pharmaceutical treatment. His relaxed disposition and quiet office environment are conducive to making his patients feel open to healing.

Dr. Meltzer, Was very understanding and caring of my needs from suffering fro anxiety and PTSD. He listed to me thoughly. He set up a plan for me for the future. That can be adjusted for me.
