Dr. Shilpa Gupta

Endocrinologists specifically the pediatric ones we’ve seen seem to have the same downfalls. No callbacks, going M.I.A when the pharmacy needs clarity for a prescription, making school medical plans that are not helpful, not educating themselves on how all carbs are not created equal, how to address fats and proteins, etc etc. unfortunately this dr falls into all those downfalls as well. I don’t even mind a longer wait, but when it comes at the expense of sub par care, then that’s where the problem lies.

Dr. Gupta is a fantastic pediatrician. I have two boys, and she's always sweet and gentle with them. She answers every question I throw at her. Nothing but positive experiences.

Dr. Gupta is an amazing pediatric endocrinologist! She takes the time to explain everything to you that your child is going through in a way that you can understand. She is very kind, thoughtful, gentle, and helpful. Thank you so much Dr. Gupta!????

No stars! She is not supportive of vbac pacient and the medical staff at riverside community is poorly trained and do not help hurting patients... completely rude, made fun of patients, told them that they were not in labor then I suggested they drive to Loma linda to birth their child instead becuase riverside was ridiculous. Doctor Gupta from the start guilted my client with telling her that she would never dialate and her child would die if she tried a vbac. She mom shamed her and every time the client came becuase of active labor gupta sent them home! Finally I told them she should be fired and go to loma linda children's hospital and 15 min later they checked her in as active labor and 4 hours later their beautiful baby girl was born ! Who if gupta had her way would of given a unnecessary c section causing 3 months of excruciating pain and healing....im done with Gupta and riverside community forever! and as a doula I will no longer work with L&D clients that are scheduled to birth there. No stars! She sucks. Yells at the patient and parent blames the parent for things they didn't do even though the nurse assistant is about and is the only one that can do it. Refuses to Communicate with parents she just wants you to listen and do as she says without comment. Refuses to see you even though riverside medical clinic States that we don't have to. Amazing endocrinologist. Spends time answering questions and making sure the parent and child understand what is being explained. So yes if she is helping somebody you MIGHT have to wait. But wouldn't you want her help answering questions instead of rushing through the appointment? We have never had to wait long but know that if you do it is because she does NOT rush through her appointments. We actually get excited to go see her. She holds my 17 y/o daughter accountable but with compassion and understanding so she can head into adulthood knowing how to continue care for herself. We absolutely adore and appreciate Dr. Gupta! The best thing RMC did was bring Dr. Gupta on board for pediatric endocrinology. Amazing endocrinologist. I agree with Edward Atkins. After waiting to see her 45 minutes for the first time, she didn't even apologize. Her staff did though. Her staff is friendly and courteous. She didn't really take into account anything I was asking or saying. She just kept insisting that my 17 year old son would not grow anymore. If he was lucky, maybe half an inch. Her diagnosis was based on a left hand xray, compared to an xray of a 17 year old 50 years ago. She never even bothered to ask his ethnicity. Apparently all those xrays in the textbook are all Caucasians. My son is half hispanic. She was pretty perplexed at his bone age being so advanced but she didn't have a precise answer. She just kept insisting he must have started puberty before 8, even though we both kept telling her he didnt. She also made a comment about how I should have brought him in sooner. I never suspected anything was wrong because the majority of my family and my husbands family are of short stature. I only agreed to take my son to see her because his primary doctor thought it would be a good idea. I had no idea her bedside manner was unempathetic and cold. It took a whole day for my son to semi recover from her diagnosis and how she presented it. She tried to cut through the tension at the end by saying that hope and prayers are good, but the science shows he won't grow anymore. The good news is I found out bone xray scans are far from being accurate. There are two other xrays that can be done, but she never mentioned them. There are other factors to consider as well. If you need to take your child to see an endocrinologist, look for someone else, especially if your child is a teenager. I agree with Edward Atkins. Excellent doctor. She took her time to explain everything in detail and made sure all questions were answered. She cares about what is best for the patient. I highly recommend her.

Second time having my children visit this provider. Very short with exams, does not build a rapport with the kids, nor does she talk to the kids about how they're feeling. After 20+ years with her predecessor, she still has a lot to learn about how to build effective working relationships with patients. I would highly recommend Dr. Gupta to anyone looking for an endocrinologist for their child. Speaking as a previous patient of hers I can say she truly cares about you, takes the time to get to know you and answers any questions or concerns that you have.
