I have been a patient with Dr. Hansen for 2 years. I look forward to my visits because they listen and truly care about their patients. The office and staff are relaxed and laid back but very professional. Everyone is treated with respect and they are very passionate about helping their patients achieve their goals. They also take the time to educate you on your issues and medications. You're treated with compassion, like a patient with real medical needs. They validated my concerns. There are so many people who are unable to get relief for their issues that they have. I was told that there is nothing that can be done to fix my problem, and continued to get worse, but when I didn't have any hope left, this amazing group of providers answered my prays. For that I want to say thank you

Dr Hansen was very nice. I loved my doctors visit. Normally i have bad anxiety the day of my appointment. Dont have that problem at all going here. The entire staff is very nice. The only thing they could improve is they NEVER answer the phone. But if you leave message they return them very quick.

I will see Dr Hansen this next week to get established in VA. They have been wonderful thus far and I look forward to seeing the Dr.! they are compassionate and the website is amazing and full of great info!

Dr Hansen is the most amazing, compassionate, understanding, caring doctor in all of Virginia! Unlike many other doctors, he sympathizes with his patients and does everything he can to treat their pain as much as possible. The PA Melissa, however, is the opposite. She’s cold, incompetent, and gives the patients a hard time. She’s not good at all. Avoid her as much as possible!!! The ENTIRE staff here founded this office with the plan to truly help patients All of the providers here (DR’s/PA/NP) are the absolute top notch. The office staff go out of there way to be helpful and polite at all times…every one of my calls or inquiries are responded to within and hour if not less. There is a fee here that helps all involved determine if this facility is right for you. This facility is not and will not play games or entertain abusive persons or unhealthy seeking behavior. Individuals like me and many others draw immense benefit from this clinic and the staff have restored my ability to work full time, enjoy family again and enjoy my life. To those who criticize this facility after reading their posts…I call dishonesty….no providers or staff here have ever violated any tenet of good care or law. It is my experience those who cannot manipulate the system become angry and resentful and will engage in destructive behaviors including going to the internet to try to destroy or tarnish those who will not engage in their manipulation. I was going to leave this blank until I read some of the other reviews. People complaining about the concierge fee should have never made an appointment. That fee is there for a purpose. These providers are not like 15 minute doctors. They will sit there until you decide your done. Also, in all the time I've been going to the practice, there was only one bad apple in the group and she's gone. Everyone is kind, considerate, and professional. Dr. Hansen gave me my life back as far as I am concerned. And Dr. Holtzer keeps me living as pain free as I can get. He's my fav. ???? They are all great providers though. Lauren is the sweetest and If you have an issue, you leave a message and she is on it in less than two hours. You will ALWAYS get a call back. I can't say anything bad about the practice because there just isn't anything bad to say.. Just follow the rules, and you will be able to have the best quality of life... pain free. I had an appointment with Dr Hansen on January 17,2022.He was very honest , and professional,he explained in detail what he felt we needed to do.I was always told by my mom you can’t win if you don’t battle.And chronic pain is a lifetime battle.And it’s hard for the drs if you aren’t honest, open,and willing to assist in your care This office will assist you in your care they have your best interest at heart.I’m learning about my condition so I will recommend this practice to anyone who has chronic pain they are the best.They are the BEST and I thank Dr Hansen and his team.

When it becomes next to impossible to contact your doctor or their staff... then that is when even the best doctor on the planet becomes worthless. Sadly, over the past year or so, I have watched the staff's respect towards the patients slowly deteriorate, and after almost 20 years I believe it's time for a change. I don't believe that having a practice that will answer the phone, or at least return phone calls to the insurance company, the pharmacy, or even myself is asking for too much. I’m a chronic pain patient with debilitating pain, and Dr Hansen is everything you could hope for in a pain doctor and beyond! He’s very compassionate, very attentive, he can truly relate to the patient’s condition with sympathy (I’ve dealt with so many doctors who were cold and uncaring), and he genuinely cares. This practice is about as Crooked as they come. They bill your insurance and then have a outrageous concierge fee on top of that. I was with them for several years and was really annoyed when I found out that other patients, friends of mine were only being charged half the amount that I was. They do way over prescribe to their patients. If I had actually taken the amount of Oxy that I prescribed I have no doubt that I would of developed a dependency, Thank God I knew better. The front office staff is great but the office Manager is unprofessional and the Medical Assistant Lauren has the personality of a German Shepherd. She is unfriendly, and lacking in empathy I don’t understand why she is in the healthcare industry to begin with. Not to mention twice Dr Hansen prescribed me medication that I qas smart enough to research first and discovered in my own that the prescribed medication was very dangerous for me to take and could of caused major problems for me. Dr. Hansen & his staff are of a different breed of any other medical staff I have been associated with in my many years of requiring medical assistance. The kindness, concern & overall care that has been given to me has been of the upmost truly caring & trying to help with my many discomforts. They have given me the confidence that my needs are truly what they are there for. I look forward to every visit knowing that I am a priority.

Dr.Hansen and everyone else at the Center For Complex Pain Care are absolutely fantastic. I've been dealing with significant health issues for years and had numerous Pain Management doctors discharge me and refuse to pick up my case because I was a "Complex" and "Complicated" case. Dr.Hansen and his team took me in and for the first time in years I am finally receiving much needed care and finally getting RELIEF. It is definitely worth the concierge fee to be seen there. Dr.Hansen and the rest of his team really are life savers. By far the BEST Pain Management Clinic in Virginia!

I have, for the last 9 years, been dealing with crippling pain after another doctor's mistake destroyed my pancreas. I live in pain with every. single. breath. I spent a year being involuntarily taken off my medications, until I was finally almost bed-bound, because of the current climate around opioids. Then I was given Dr. Hansen's name. The first appointment was almost 90 minutes. He listened. He affirmed that my pain is REAL. He went through my records (yes, you must provide at least a year of records for him to review). He's thorough, kind, and incredibly smart. He also still treats people like human beings. I can't tell you that he will be your answer, but I recommend you call the practice and find out if he is the first step to getting your life back. While he does do medication management if that's the RIGHT thing, he also offers many other treatment options. From medical massage to injections, etc. He sees the whole picture, and acts accordingly. He is amazing!

Unlike my previous doctors Dr .Hansen & Dr Holzer took the time to listen to me and advise me of my options. I am very happy with my decision in selecting them. I am truly impressed with the promptness of their communication. I FEEL RESPECTED!!!

Love! I’ve been with Dr. Holzer since Bon Secours. I hesitated before following him only because of the concierge fee, and at the time I could not afford it. But I just couldn’t find the same care that I received with him. They have a new NP, Dr. Bowman who compliments the practice really well. He’s as easygoing and down to earth as Dr. Holzer. The concierge fee took some getting used to ($1500 annual, or $750 twice a year, or $400 every 3 months). Since concierge medicine is like VIP care, it is worth it. They are not overcrowded. Your appointment can last as long as you need it to. I only go once every 3 months, and there’s maybe one other person in the waiting room time, sometimes none at all. Same day appointments if needed, prior authorizations handled same day usually, next day max. Electronic scripts, and pharmacy appointments via phone same day. If you’re experiencing changes in diagnosis or symptoms you feel comfortable speaking with them about any changes in medication that may be needed. They are all advocates for chronic pain patients. I wish everyone could afford to go there. Because I was a previous patient, I know it’s not just about the money with them. They all truly care. Dr Hanson is hands down the most caring doctor I have ever met! I first met him at a different practice and when he left I was devastated until I heard that he opened his own practice and has added other doctors and P.A.s that also believe that improving their patients quality of life should be their top priority! They even added a massage therapist!! They take the time to get to know you and your whole medical story of how you ended up where you are now so they can develop a personalized treatment plan that works for you. They truly care about your individual needs as a person not just another patient! I have been to every hospital in the area including going as far as Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and during this long medical journey I have never met a staff that is more caring!! As a pain management patient of many years with major spine, hip and ankle trauma from a car accident I have been to a few different PM practices and Dr Hansen and Holziers practice is the only one that has treated me with dignity and respect and not like a convict. They break down every aspect of your treatment and will listen to what you have to say. Everyone at the practice are wonderful and truly care about you. I feel the whole office is very helpful, Dr Hansen spends quality time with you and explains everything! Love front desk. Highly recommend

Dr Hansen can seem a little hurried during office visits, but when it comes time for the procedure he will slow down and focus on you. He is especially good at easing anxiety for the more invasive(ridiculously painful) procedures. He communicates well with his assistants and all seems in order.

July 2019~ Update! Dr. Holzer (Dr. Hansen's assoc) is so phenomenal. Perfect bedside manner, caring and sincere. Goes way beyond to help, to figure out what he can do and what the best next step for ME is. ***The BEST news is that Dr. Hansen has "removed" the hideous being that used to curse the front office. Best doctor visit ever....the day I found out she was no longer employed there. In fact, I started dancing and jumping around in the waiting room upon finding out AND another patient joined me!!!! December 2018~I have been a patient of Dr. Hansen's for going in 2 years. Dr. Hansen and his 2 other doctors are fantastic! Rena & Lauren are also amazing. I will say, unfortunately, the front office staff, namely Audrey, is the most miserable person ever. She is rude, unprofessional, talks to patients as if we're nothing more than a huge pain in her side. I have had a few issues with her, but, this past week has been the worst. Since no one bothered to tell me that my concierge fee didn't clear in Sept, I was unable to be seen last week. Audrey said she would have withdrawal meds called over, but, did not. So, after 3 days of withdrawal and wanting to die, I finally got withdrawal meds, unfortunately, I had already rode through the worst of it. I am a current patient of Dr Hansen’s. From August 2006, he was my doctor for 6 years. For 4 yrs afterwards, I was off pain meds etc, yet didn’t have much of a life laying in my bed the majority of the time. I went in search of a new doctor once I developed a more pain conditions, which made my pain unbearable. When I saw online that Dr Hansen had opened his own practice my search stopped. Dr Hansen takes his patients seriously & cares to help improve their quality of life by continuously learning new strategies. I believe, his objective is to help his patients live the best & most productive life possible. Dr Hansen looks at all pain relief possibilities; Opioids, Shots, Physical Therapy Massage, Exercise, and much more. I believe he & those he has chosen to work along side him at his practice believe in truly helping patients survive and thrive thru their pain. He should be your # 1 choice.

Amazing physician! Dr. Hansen is extremely knowledgeable in his area of expertise. He does not rush his patients. He takes his time to listen and come up with a treatment plan that works. If you ever have questions after your visit, Lauren (his medical assistant) is incredible. She returns calls within a matter of hours versus days or even weeks like other physicians offices that I have experienced. I am so grateful that I found this office. I recommend Dr. Hansen 100%.

Dr Hansen and Dr Holzer were the best doctors Ive encountered. I saw them both for many any years at the other practice in Portsmouth, but since they both left, I have to say life isnt what it should be, I only wish I had private insurance and the money for these doctors, Im be in a better place with probably as little pain as its necessary these days without them, I have no quality of life, it was a shame the practice they built in Portsmouth turned out this way, it was special and unique but now its not different from any regular doctors office, so pain isnt their mission, like it was with these two doctors, If you are qualified to get into this practice do it, im betting you wont regret it, I know Im in a situation where i cant get in and its the worst part of what im going thru. They care about their patients. My insurance company keeps giving me the run around but the staff there stays on to of them, working out whatever my insurance company demands. Dr Holzer and Dr Hanson are two of the best doctors Ive ever known. They actually care and listen to you unlike other docs who just rush you out the door and could care less about you. I was seeing these two doctors in Ports and even then when the had wayyyy to many patients they still took the time to listen and do everything in their power to help people. Words cant describe how wonderfully awesome these doctors are!! Dr Holzer has gone above and beyond his duties of a doctor to figure out whats going on with me and this rare muscle disease which causes me excruciating pain. When they left the practice in Portsmouth and I received a letter from that practice saying they were no longer seeing their patients I was sick I didn’t know what to do. I had lost 2 of the best Drs I’d ever been to. They actually care about their patients, they listen to you unlike most other Drs. I used to get almost physically sick when i went to shall i say "Portsmouth" as I was treated so badly there almost like a criminal or drug addict that when i joined Dr. Hansens team, i was so happy to find out that they treat you with respect and compassion and im all about both. Dr. Hansen just wants to deal with people who just want meds. I was unfortunate enough to meet and get belittled by him. I was hoping he would listen to my story but I never got to speak. I had to stay with him due to his awful name calling and terrible notes labeling me an attention seeker. I got no referrals to other others to find out about my condition and he misdiagnosed me! I will always need pain meds because he didn’t believe me. I am now with a good doctor!

Dr. Hansen is an outstanding Neurologist and over the last 15 years I have been to a few. Not only is his medical knowledge and insight of the highest degree, he is very thorough, spends time with each patient's needs, listens and has the utmost best interest in you as an individual and your physical conditions; without ridicule. His bedside manner leaves you believing and knowing he cares. With 14 full time doctors, Dr. Hansen is a rare relief being under his care.

There aren’t words to express my gratitude for Dr. Hansen and his staff. After a spine injury and years of procedures, meds, and physicians who belittled me and made me feel like a criminal, I was blessed to find Dr. Hansen. He was the first physician willing to listen without judgement and treat me with dignity. I am now able to return to life as an RN and human being after being a prisoner of pain for many years. You will not find a more competent, caring physician and staff. He is awesome.

I have been seeing Dr. Hansen for well over 15 years. After a devastating spinal cord injury and multiple surgeries at MCV I was sent to their pain clinic. They placed me on medication and I had a followup appointment every month. Only problem - it was a 4 hour drive and when you are sick and cant drive. It is very difficult to find someone to drive you every month. So, my primary care doctor started writing my prescriptions and I started looking for a doctor closer. Dr. Hansen.

If you are looking for pain management, be aware that you must join his "concierge program". Which means that you need to pay $1500 a year ($1300 if you pay all at once) and most insurances do not cover this.

The staff at his office are completely unprofessional and need to take some classes on courtesy, professionalism and honesty.

After 8yrs of pain management in Md with no problems, I move and had to move pain management. Very sad when a patient has a problem and voices the problem, for the practice to stop service with the patient rather than address the issue. Dr. Hansen & Dr. Holzer are both outstanding Pain Management Dr.'s. As a former Nurse retired on disability due to a chronic intractable pain disorder, I've been a patient of Dr. Hansen & Dr. Holzer for the last 9 year's, & I cannot more highly recommend their services. This team of Dr.'s treats their patients with respect, courtesy, & compassion. Their knowledge & experience in treating all types of chronic, intractable, intolerable, unmanaged, uncontrolled pain is, in many cases, the only life-line many of us living in horrible pain have left. They treat the whole patient as an individual. They're always very knowledgeable about the latest information, & stay on top of the newest techniques, medications, & treatments available in treating chronic pain. As both a former Nurse & as a chronic pain patient, I can tell you that in terms of the most severe chronic pain, this is the team of Dr.'s you want in your corner. They won't give up on helping you to achieve the best quality of life possible. Both my wife and I are new patients Dr. Hansen's clinic. We actually followed Dr. Holzer from Bon Secours to Dr. Hansen's clinic and are so happy we did. Dr. Holzer's "whole body" approach to pain management has helped me for almost 4 years and now I know my wife will get the best attention and care she could ever get. Also, the staff at the clinic are the best. They always greet you with a smile and make sure you are taken care of from the moment we walk in the door.

Dr Hansen has been my pain physicians for many years. First went to him when he was with Bob Secours in Portsmouth. He is one of the best doctors I have ever met. Have told multiple friends and even strangers about him. He quite literally gave me my life back.

First his training: : Mayo Clinic, John Hopkins,and Bethesda Naval. Dr Hansen has provided excellent care for my debilitating chronic headaches . He spent a great deal of time with me and left no stone unturned in seeking treatment. I doubt you will ever meet a more intelligent and compassionate physician.. See this pain management Doc ASAP if you want the best .

Dr Hansen is the best Doctor there is! He's compassionate, attentive, highly educated and knowledgeable in his field and most other medical specialties. He's never judge mental and always makes you feel better before you leave. This man has been my rock as far as helping me with my medical situations. I've had some horrible experiences with other local physicians that in this day and age is baffling to say the least. If you're looking for a physician that you can trust to treat your condition/s , Robert Hansen gets an AAA plus in my opinion. He Rock's! Dr Hansen is the best Doctor there is! I've even calling this office for 2 weeks leaving messages and my phone number. I've gotten not even 1 return call. What is the problem? It's crazy when a Dr's office can't even return call for an appointment.

Dr. Hansen is an excellent doctor. He listens, suggests, and never tries to force any unwanted procedures. My last pain management doctor pressured me into taking seven shots in my back that made me very ill. Not only did the medicine not work, but it made me lose trust in his opinion. After talking to Dr. Hansen, I learned more about my pain, and I was no longer afraid or embarrassed to talk about how I felt. Dr. Hansen is the best.
