My husband went to the ER last Sunday with fever and diarrhea. My husband has celiac disease and a history of carcinoid tumors. A recent blood test showed a tremendous elevation in his cancer markers, but he had no other symptoms at the time. Since we had returned from a trip to Mexico the day before, I asked Dr. Guillinese if a stool test could be run before he was started on antibiotics to determine if he had a parasite or bacterial infection. This was to rule out these problems in case the diarrhea might be caused by celiac or carcinoid. A specimen was reluctantly taken, but before we left, Dr. Guillinese told us they were not going to do anything with it. He gave my husband a prescription for an antibiotic. When I contacted my husband’s gastroenterologist on Monday, the first thing I was asked was if a stool specimen had been taken in the ER. Of course, I told her what happened. I was truly disappointed in Dr. Guillinese. I wish he had listened to me.

Awesome. He was very caring and professional. He took time to listen to my concerns. The only ER Dr to give a call back to see how I was doing.
