My experience was many years ago. Dr Blankenship removed 1/3 of my right lung because he thought I had lung cancer. I had been told before the surgery that there would be a pathologist actually in the surgery to examine the area in question. There was no pathologist present so part of my lung was removed in error. After finishing the surgery Dr Blankenship talked to my wife and delivered the devastating news that I would be unlikely to live more than 3 months. I was luck my wife's brother was there as she was suicidal after receiving the news. To make matters worse Dr Blankenship got surgically aggressive and attempted to remove several lymph nodes he thought were also cancerous. In the process of this he cut some nerves to my vocal cords leaving 2/3 of the left side of my vocal cords just hanging limply. My job required speaking and occasional public speaking which I have struggled to do as my voice sometimes just disappears. I also used to play guitar and sing.....singing is now out of the question. On top of all this Dr Blankenship did not stick to the agreed post op pain management plan...resulting in several days of severe pain. And the final straw was that the "good doctor" was not man enough to even once show up in my hospital room to say he was sorry for the mistake. Instead I was transferred to some other doctor that I had never met. I would like to think that I would not refer my worst enemy to Dr Blankenship (if I had one).........probably. I was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer. He saved my life. That was eleven years ago today. The man is my hero!
