Dr. Richard Westmark is the absolute BEST! I had him as a second opinion doctor for my spine and I’m glad I went with him because not only did he save my back, he saved my life! I thought I’d never go back to regular activities. I can do them ALL! Highly highly recommend him!

Dr. Weather changed my life. He and his NP/PA are very professional, yet warm, humorous and willing to explain in detail your surgery. I was fused L4, L5,S1. I can now get a good night's sleep and participate fully in life. So glad Dr. Westmark was referred to me by a friend who also had a successful surgery with him.

Went to Dr for back pain and leg pain, they asked if first appt I would be ok seeing his PA for consult I was ok with that. Saw PA he ordered MRI, XRays, and bone scan. Waited several days for them to call with appt. They never called. I had to call office to get orders to get tests. Which they couldn’t find my file, after 15 minutes on phone they sent orders over, got tests done they called to come in for results at which time I thought I would see/meet the actual Dr. They gave me the PA again and all he said they could do was refer me to pain mgmt Dr. Then they charged a second copay tor the test results follow up and I am still waiting for them to refer me to pain mgmt. no one has called and I have never even seen the real Dr. And I have to pay specialist copay both times I went in. I Do Not Recommend this Dr. You will not even meet the actual Dr you make the appointment with. I have heard amazing things about Dr Westmark. I prefer his PA ‘Dr’ Moreno. What I did NOT like was him referring for an MRI to a practice he owned. That’s a little bit of a conflict of interest in my opinion. The pain Dr my husband was sent to after surgery was just a dope dealer, and left my husband in a position to either die on pain meds or die trying to get off of them. Very questionable practices. And yes, the wait times are absurd. But he thinks he’s worth the wait. I have heard amazing things about Dr Westmark. I prefer his PA ‘Dr’ Moreno. I was told he was the best in the area, and when I met him, I felt like he thought that too. My only visit with him, he walked by the exam room, looked in at me kind of indifferent, looked over to the computer with my images, didn't say one word to me. I actually walked out to him and asked if he was the doctor, he said yes and maintained his arrogant indifference to me. I felt like I had to interrogate him to get ANY info on my back problems. We ended up having a long conversation and he started to warm up a little. However, when it came to treatment, his only recommendation was ESIs, which if you know, are VERY RISKY AND NOT FDA APPROVED. I asked if PT would help, but he shrugged and said "maybe, acupuncture might help too." Well ok, so you want to jump straight to a procedure with the least amount of effort on your part yet very expensive and non-approved. No thank you sir! I did go back for an EMG study but that seemed pointless for $500.

Dr. WESTMARK and Assistant Kevin Kajaveh performed an L5-S1 disc fusion on my lower back the day before Thanksgiving in the year 2000. 6.5 hour surgery, took cadaver bone and bone from my right hip and fused the area that the disc used to be at L5-S1. Wore the abdominal brace for 6 weeks after surgery, and I have not had one iota of pain or problems in my lower back. I have 2 permanent brackets with 4 titanium screws holding my lower back stable. No effects of cold or pain during winter cold months and can still live like a normal person at 30 years old (at 65 years old, next month)!!!!!! Awesome surgeon and friend and knows exactly what he is doing!!!!! Highly recommended here!!!!!! Thank you so much King Richard !!!! Lol......

Well, I guess it was more than just a visit. I'm extremely thankful to other patients that Dr. Richard Westmark had treated, recommended him to me. I was in a lot of pain from a neck injury that I sustained forty three years earlier. The vertebra in my neck from C4 to C7 had fused together like one bone. Thanks to Dr. Westmark I no longer have to worry about it. He took the necessary steps to correct the issues I had. After a three hour surgery, I no longer have to worry about becoming a quadriplegic, which had been a great possibility for over forty years. I wish Dr. Westmark & his staff much thanks for what they did for me. Sincerely Brian Wootan

Dr Westmark performed my surgery or a herniated L4/L5 disk in December of 1998. Prior to the surgery I was in unbearable pain. He performed the surgery on a Saturday morning in less than an hour and the nurses had me on my feet by that early afternoon. The pain was gone. Here we are in 2020 and my back has been perfectly fine ever since. Now at age 69 I am going to see if he can fix my problems on my neck area vertebrae.

I was seen by Dr. Westmark. In the beginning he was great he operated on my neck and I have no complaint about that. It was only after the initial surgery when I went back to him because something else is definitely wrong that his arrogance and God complex showed itself. He sent me to have several tests done on the part of my neck that he had already worked and couldn't comprehend that I was having issues other than my neck. He was too worried about a thank you note. The hospital that he sent me too suddenly closed, I'm sure for shady billing practices. I have since found a new doctor, that seems interested in actually helping me other than suggesting pain management or making me feel as if the pain is all in my head. I'd like to say thank you Dr. Westmark...THANKS FOR NOTHING! Looks like Karma came to visit. Your beloved hospital is No More. Gotcha. I was seen by Dr. Westmark. INCREDIBLY arrogant or maybe it’s just INCREDIBLY confident? Who’s to say. He’s very good at what he does and went to the best schools. I didn’t really care for his arrogance when I first met him but, when I went to have surgery, he could tell I was nervous. He joked with me and my mom and totally made me relax. In that situation, he was very caring. So it’s a tough call - he’s definitely bordering on a God complex but, at the same time, he’s mega qualified and you can trust you’re seeing one of “the best.” INCREDIBLY arrogant or maybe it’s just INCREDIBLY confident? I went to Dr Westmark for severe dizziness thinking it was coming from previously diagnosed herniated discs in my neck. He immediately said it is not coming from your neck. You should go to the ER to rule out a stroke. Afterwards if they give an all clear then go to an ENT. I did exactly what he said and found out I'm not having a stroke. The ENT found I had BPPV and did the Epleys Maneuver and I am fine. Thankful for great Doctors. Dr Westmark Is so funny and an extremely good Dr. I know many people who use him and are very pleased. Dr Westmark was the 6th or 7th different surgeon I had gone to for my spine issues. He was however the first one that gave me any feeling of confidence in his ability to actually help me. I am over 60 and have heard of horror stories my whole life about "back surgery " . I went to Dr. Westmark the first part of May 2019 to see why I was in so much pain. We talked about my situation then Dr. Westmark showed me my MRI, he showed me on the films my case is severe and there is no alternative. He explained very directly that I needed surgery. I have worked directly with people for 30 years and felt extremely comfortable and confident I had choose the right surgeon. Dr. Westmark was very thorough in explaining the procedure and why I needed it. His bedside manor was awesome and the surgery went perfect. Dr. Westmark is the very best neurosurgeon anyone could ever want. He performed cervical spine surgery on me in 2006. Everything is still great. He is very blunt, straight to the point, and does not sugar coat anything, yet has a great sense of humor. This man knows what he is doing. Do not EVER let any type of doctor operate on any part of your spine except a neurosurgeon. And if you live in the Clear Lake area, you might as well go to the best - Dr. Westmark.

Dr. Westmark is a thorough, and brilliant surgeon. He operated on a very bad hernia in my L5 spine. It hurt terribly bad (the injury not the surgery) He completed the surgery without issues in about 40 minutes. He did not nick the duramater either which is a common mistake. 10/10 will always be going back to Houston in the event I need a neurosurgeon. Dr. Westmark is a graduate of Harvard with a double fellowship in neuroscience/neurosurgery if I'm not mistaken. His credentials are phenomenal.

I have entrusted my mobility and my life to Dr Westmark and his staff twice. When I was told I needed "lower back surgery," the only surgeon I considered was Dr Westmark. First, he stabilized my upper spine because tests showed the slightest injury could leave me a quadraplegic, then he tackled my lower back. I am walker free! What an awful experience!! I first had to wait over an hour in the room. No one ever came in to let me know it might be a bit longer and ask me if I was able to wait. When I stepped out in the hall to see if I had been forgotten, I was looked at like an idiot. The office manager then stuck her head in the door and asked if this was the first time I had been there. When I told her yes she began to make excuses as to what was taking so long. I said I can understand things come up that are unseen but why couldn't someone come and inform me he is running VERY behind? That was all I was asking for, a little respect of my time too. When Dr.Westmark came in the room after over an hour of waiting and he never once said sorry for the inconvenience. He just started off by being very rude and crass! I know Orthopedic doctors are known for their god complex but this was way off the charts. He complained about him marriage like I was his best friend or something. He would completely interrupt me while I would be answering a question he had asked me. As for helping me, he made me feel like I was being ridiculous for saying I had pain. Like all I needed to do was take an Ibuprofen and be quite. I didn't want pain killers from him and never asked for them either. He offered and I said no thanks. That wasn't what I was there for. All I needed from him was a MRI referral so my Chiropractor could help me after seeing an MRI. When the office called to have me come back for the results I was asked to pay another $50. Excuse me, I payed that the first time, shouldn't that be part of the first appointment? All I am getting are the results of the MRI. I won't be going back, I would rather pay a different doctor the $50 to read the results. Thanks but no thanks, Dr Westmark!! I will find someone else! What an awful experience!! My PCP referred me to Dr. Westmark after an ATV accident. At that time I already knew several people who had successful brain or spine surgeries performed by him, so was please with the referral. He was so thorough in his diagnosis, he even ordered a PET scan to rule out cancer, along with a phalanx of other tests, before finally recommending surgery. He performed an L4-L5 laminectomy in an outpatient surgical center, from which I walked away with a far better quality of life. He is not quick to recommend surgery, as are some surgeons who make their living doing them. I know of no one he has treated who is not extremely pleased with their results. He is in high demand and accordingly has a busy practice. It is not unusual to have to wait at his office, or to be seen by his PA for routine information sharing. If your time is more important than the quality of the care you receive, then by all means find another neurosurgeon. For me, at least, this one's worth waiting for. I saw Dr. Richard M. Westmark on December 2, 2016. He came into the exam room, didn’t introduce himself, sat down and said “I bet you’re here to ask me if I can get rid of your pain”. I said “that depends on whether or not you’re Dr. Westmark”. He just repeated what he first said and I repeated my statement. He never did introduce himself. I told him I had been seen by an orthopedic doctor and I told him his name. He started bad mouthing him immediately. I worked as a medical secretary at a large teaching/research/medical institution for 29 years and I’ve never heard one doctor talk so badly about a colleague. Dr. Westmark has a God complex, is condescending, obnoxious, arrogant, hasn’t got a clue as to how to talk to a patient, and is completely lacking in professionalism. I saw Dr. Richard M. Westmark on December 2, 2016. He came into the exam room, didn’t introduce himself, sat down and said “I bet you’re here to ask me if I can get rid of your pain”. I said “that depends on whether or not you’re Dr. … More

I met Dr. Westmark when he first arrived in 1993. He was in the ER that night and saved my life. He listened intently to my issue and was able to determine the life saving solution. Over the years I have had several surgeries for bad car accidents where I had broken necks, backs and major head trauma. I am sure beyond any doubt that he has saved my life at least three times and his procedures have enhanced my continuing life. I have never met a more qualified Surgeon in any field and consider him to be a friend. Sincerely, Matthew Jackson I met Dr. Westmark when he first arrived in 1993. Went to Dr. Westmark after seeing a Orthopedic doctor about a pain I was experiencing. As it turns out, I was diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis in my lower back. For me, first impressions mean a lot. With my first appointment I knew I was going to like this doctor. I felt very comfortable while discussing my problem and his attitude was something that impressed me. His sense of humor along with his knowledge of his profession was to me unmatched. Would not hesitate using him again.

The experience with Dr Westmark, as well as his staff was great. I would highly recommend this office for anyone in need of a neurosurgeon. The staff made the experience easy, welcoming, and professional. While Dr Westmark was extremely knowledgeable and to the point with my issue. He made it clear that he was always there whoever I may need him in the future. He also spoke on a personal level that showed that he cares about his patients, his practice, and the staff that worked for him.

I've had several appointment with Dr. Westmark several years ago. My last and final appointment resulted in Dr. west mark and his staff leaving me sitting in an exam room with the door to the hallway closed FOR OVER 2 HOURS! Finally, I left the exam room. Some time later I sent a request for medical records which, to date, has been ignored for over a year. Talented Dr but pompous and uncaring. Go see another provider!

I had a broken tailbone and this quack said i was "creating my own misery"! He is the most evasive Dr when asked questions about surgery. He gets a piece of the pie if u go to his preferred mri co and put me through an unnenecessary hospital IV cortisone fiasco. How could one surgeon see the broken bone on film and do surgery the next day and Dr westmark treat me with Iv cortisone and many office visits before reccomending surgery? Greed and incompetence! I met a surgical tech who worked in the same hospital with westmark and he has a reputation of being knife happy and has a severe God complex. I am offended by Ms. Moore calling Dr. Westmark a quack. In the first place I cannot imagine a man of Dr. Westmark' intelligence stooping to use the the kind of language this "lady" attributes to him and second, it's common and ethical practice for physicians to own interests in facilities outside their own office to perform medical tests as well as other businesses, just like anyone can own interests in related companies. Dr. Westmark is an outstanding neurosurgeon. He has operated on both myself and my husband who had a broken neck just like Christopher Reeves. Not only did my husband live, but he is not paralyzed, after surgery lasting 12 hours and having a cardiac arrest on the table, thanks to Dr. Westmark, Dr. Wang, and their team of extremely well-qualified assistants. NOT A QUACK AMONG THEM, MS. MOORE. My husband is alive thanks to Dr. Westmark, so you can see why I don't appreciate anyone calling him a quack. Dr. Westmark is a highly skilled neurosurgeon and his experience in the surgical suite is excellent. I had a double fusion L3/L4/L5 last year. I was essentially disabled prior to the surgery. I now have my life back and feel very confident in the work that Dr. Westmark has performed. Dr. Westmark is a serious surgeon and only performs surgery when it absolutely necessary. I love Dr. Westmark. I have gone through two back surgeries and each time it has been a bounce back with very little down time. I have herniated disc in my lower back L 1 - 5 and when they decide to go out its truly out. He has removed spurs and scar tissue from my back. I did not answer the ? about wait time. You have to understand Dr. Westmark does not treat his patients like cattle on a tread mill he takes the time he needs to treat you and make sure you understand about your own body.

Highly recommended; I?m 73 and he was a second opinion and more thorough than a widely advertised spine institute. He planned fusion, but after several hours of surgery decided that a lumbar laminectomy and discectomy of L4, L5, S1 was adequate. Instead of staying 2-3 days in the hospital, I woke up and went home the same day (he doesn?t do surgery unless it?s necessary). Before surgery, he clearly explained my problem, my options, and my recovery. He is very busy, but worth the long wait.

Recommended I have a 3 level fusion, made it sound like if I didn't I could be paralyzed. Post surgery has been worse than I ever imagined. I have had significant neck pain, stomach pain and shoulders. No post surgery help for the issues the surgery caused. I would stay away from fusion there are much better choices available. Wish I had done more research.
