My mom was at a hospital down the road from Rush and was told she had lung cancer that spread to her brain, but operating wasn't an option. I was so blessed to get a consultation with Dr. Byrne to show him her MRI. He was very concerned the other hospital wasn't going to remove the tumor and rather wanted to start radiation the next day so he called the department chair of neurosurgery of that hospital and quickly realized my mom never actually had a neurosurgery consultation, rather was only seen by oncology!!! He initiated her transfer to Rush that day and did the surgery the next week. It's been 4 months post-op and my mom is doing AMAZING. Her CT yesterday showed no new growth. He's truly very caring, professional and I believe saved my mom's life. Only God knows what would have happened if she didn't get the tumor removed. Thanks, Dr. Byrne!!!

Dr Byrne removed a tumor from my brain on February 15th 2021. Being told that an MRI scan shows a tumor in your brain and that you are having surgery on your brain to remove the tumor is a lot to wrap your head around (literally). Dr. Richard Byrne has such a calming way about him and his experience made me as a patient feel like no matter what may have happened during the surgery, he's been there before and he is able to deal with it. Dr. Byrne's first consultation with me 2/3/21 I walked in to Dr Byrne's office of course stressed out and scared of the prospect of brain surgery and a possibility of cancer. I walked out of Dr. Byrne's office on February 3rd 2021 confident that I would make it through the upcoming operation and excited about the opportunity to fight this situation with Dr Byrne's years of experience. Long story short the surgery was a success. The pathology came back that I had Glioblastoma brain cancer. 1 year later and I am classified as NED no evidence of disease.

Dr. Byrne overbooks his patients, renders hasty decisions, and comes unprepared. Just be prepared to wait over an hour to be seen during his appointments and receive minimal neurological evaluation. Very poor bedside manner, especially for someone who treats patients with brain tumors.

One of the best doctors whom i have met so far. Was very patient and clearly gave an explanation to all my questions. Will highly recommend to others!

Dr Byrne did two surgeries on me to get my seizures under control! He did a great job and it worked. I have to move to Atlanta;however, if surgery gets recommended again. I’d go back to Chicago to Dr. Byrne again.

Dr. Byrne performed brain surgery on my son over 10 years ago. He gave my son a new life by completely eliminating his weekly seizures. We are forever thankful for his life changing skills.

Dr. Byrne came into the room during a pandemic with his mask half off and did not put it on completely until I asked him to do so. At this point, he scoffed at me said that he'd been vaccinated and could not spread COVID. (A scientifically questionable statement). He spoke down to me the entire 12 minutes that he spent with me. He said that he didn't have an MRI in the system for me when he, in fact, had 2. Once he finally pulled it up, he glanced at it for less than a minute. I had to ask each question multiple times before he would give me answers. His answers were mostly single sentences and he did not want to explain things to me. Some of his statements were contradictory to his other statements. It was clear that he had no interest in helping me.

I’m a patient from several years ago. He’s brilliant and very talented.

Dr. Byrne is one of the best dr’s I’ve ever had along with Dr. Mark Wiet they together saved my life.

He did my daughter's surgery and we were extremely grateful for his expertise. Dr. Byrne is a fantastic surgeon.

I took my parent to see Dr Byrne after my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He might be a good surgeon but he was so rude and abrupt we transferred her to Northwestern for the procedure.

6 years ago I saw this man and he told me he was going to fix me. Was having 6-7 seizures a day for 3-4 years. After that brain surgery I’ve not had one. This man saved my life and if I can ever visit him I will personally thank him.

One of the best Neurosurgeons I've ever met.He did my husbands 11th brain operation and he is compassionate about his job and helping people

Dr.Byrne and Dr. Wiet saved my life. The very best of surgeons. Dr. Byrne is exceptional. It was a very stressful time in my life and he helped me to be more positive and to have a more positive outlook. To that I'm grateful.
