Dr. Reuben Nelson Turner

June 28, 2017 I am beyond mortified at what happened with my 9 year old son today at Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry at the hands of the anesthesiologist Reuben Turner, DDS. We went in to have his tooth pulled under general anesthesia at their Greyhawk office. The dentists at the office were already aware of how immensely frightened my son was of having really anything done in his mouth other than cleaning and we had previously tried a different route which only ended in tears. When speaking with the anesthesiologist during our consult prior to the procedure I made him aware of the situation and that it was definitely going to be difficult. He was cold, especially in comparison to the dentists and all the staff at this office. I was to go back for the mask to take effect and I may need to hold his hands down because he may twitch etc due to the medication. Then I would be there in the recovery room (diff room) when he was waking up. We went back, he began crying almost immediately and when he got into the chair he started shaking and crying very hard. He started getting out of the chair and screaming, we were all trying to console him and I was physically trying to get him back in the chair when the anesthesiologist stood up and put his hand VERY forcefully over his mouth and started squeezing and trying to slam him back in the chair. I could not believe what I was seeing. I looked at him and said, don’t you dare touch him like that! Avanti’s eyes were so bloodshot, he was terrified, balling, and frightened beyond belief. I tried to reassure him and held his hands as he fought and finally got the mask on him and got him to sleep. I proceeded to tell the anesthesiologist he had no right to ever touch a child like that, ever. I was angry beyond words, crying now myself, and in complete disbelief. He was so rude to me at that point it is still hard for me to wrap my head around it. The dentist was as usual sound and sweet and he did get the tooth out. Why I didn’t walk out of the office then, I am still not sre…I was in shock. I went back before I was asked and was there with my son not allowing this horrible excuse for a physician to ever touch my child again. He is apparently always the anesthesiologist for Affiliated Pediatric Dentistry. I couldn’t believe it. He tried to apologize to me, it means nothing. He has/had absolutely NO right to ever put his hands so forcefully and abusively on a child. Ever. And I told him so. I received no apology from anyone but him at the dental office. From this office that I thought was sooo amazing and had raved about to all my friends…. Now my son is even more than scared, he is traumatized. And I will never be able to get the image of a grown man that I don’t know putting his hand so forcefully over my child’s mouth and squeezing and trying to slam him back. This man should not work with children, and needless to say, we will never return to this office again. I am beyond angry and sad at this entire situation. I feel like I just experienced a horror story like we have seen on investigative stories. And I want everyone that may be thinking about seeing this Reuben Turner, DDS, to know.
