Dr. Stein did cataract surgery on both of my eyes. Both were successful. He was very congenial, informative, professional and caring. All in all it was a remarkable experience. I never thought I could recover my sight to 20/20 vision.

During scheduling, I made 4 calls. My calls were dropped 3 times each. All of which I waited on hold for 12-15 minutes long. Twice was when I was speaking with someone my call was dropped. I did not receive a call back after the dropped call. One time I was on hold for 8 minutes, and my call was dropped. The 4th time I called, I waited on hold for 20 minutes and was eventually forwarded to a voicemail. Be sure to allocated 1.5-2+ hours here. There are long wait times. Dr. Stein had at least 4 different rooms of patients he rotated through. As other reviewers have stated, in the rooms with the patient, he does not notate his own notes. He calls them out to the technician using signs or medical acronyms. I did find his office visits to be expensive ($100+ per visit).

Do not bother to go see him. He has no bed side manners. He didn’t ask me what happened to my eye . The way his office work his assistant documents what problem you have and what has happened to you and he just read this on their not. After examining my bad eye told me I have dry eye and follow the instructions that office gave me , if I don’t feel better to call . After 6 days of not improving I called the office to see if he writes some prescription to ease this scratchy eye problem and they told me I have to go and see him again. I explain I saw him 6 days ago and then they said he is Recomedtion is I see dry eyes specialist md . For someone like me that have the high deductible on insurance it didn’t made sense to go in the group of doctors that I was dissatisfied. Any way don’t waist your time and money with him and this group.

We're new to the area and chose Dr. Stein based on a referral from our UNC -Chapel Hill ophthalmologist. I found Dr. Stein thorough, straightforward, patient and caring - all the things I look for in a doctor. Cataract surgery went smoothly and I will continue to see him for annual and as needed visits.

As an uninsured patient, 2 visits to Dr. Stein cost me thousands of $ and nearly 1.5 years of mental anguish due to misdiagnoses and his lack of professional competence. In May 2018, I visited Dr. Stein for floaters in my left eye. After seeing a slight asymmetry in the size of my optic nerves, he instantly told me I could have a brain tumor or glaucoma and that I needed to have an MRI. Petrified and in fear for my life, I did just that, only for the results to come back perfectly normal. I was back at Dr. Stein’s in November when he ‘saw abnormal blood vessels’ in the drainage system of my eye’ and he was almost sure I had a ‘rare type of glaucoma’ and now I needed more $$ testing. Broke by now, I was unable to do the testing and spent the next months in anguish thinking I had a disease that would prevent me from seeing my son grow up. I eventually sought a second opinion from a glaucoma specialist. She gave me a thorough exam and found nothing that even slightly indicated glaucoma.

This visit was a complete waste of time. I arrived 15 minutes before my appointment time. I was checked in...then waited 45 additional minutes before deciding to leave. No one said they were running behind. No one said something unexpected had come up. I was just left to sit there, as if my time is not valuable. I would never recommend this provider to anyone.
