Reviews for Dr. Prapti Mulraj Kanani
I'm actually 2 years late at leaving this review, but now that I'm pregnant with my second child is reminded me how terrible my experience here was. My husband has a heart condition so a fetal echo was recommended. I tried to deny it because his condition usually doesn't show up until kids are 12. The office told me my insurance would only cover an echo based on family history until the baby was born. Not true! My insurance did not cover this and it will cover all my daughter's echos the rest of her life due to her dad's condition. The Dr is very rude. When going over my history with the nurse she mentioned a miscarriage I had 2 years prior. The Dr greeted me with "So you had a miscarriage". After being very dry and uncaring the whole test she told me she didn't find anything and wouldn't this early, but that my baby's head was measuring 2 weeks behind and to tell my doctor. I called my Dr in tears and they said my baby was measuring perfect and it wasn't her job to look at my baby's head.
I went there pregnant. 2 appts confirmed for a 1:15pm time. I was 5 minutes late as this is 2 hours from my home. They told me they’d be ‘nice’ and see me. While waiting I went to the restroom which is outside their office. I went back to the office, and the door was locked. I informed the front desk before using the rest room, and my coat keys and purse were all sir I’ll inside the office. So I started knocking. They came and yelled at me and said I was disturbing the babies. Meanwhile I have a almost full term baby with many complications in my belly. I was crying and the front office staff reminded me they were seeing me to be nice. Told me I locked myself out snd was super rude. I have never been in a situation such as this. Fast forward to my actual appointment. She told me my babies head was measuring small. With all the complications I already have, she said this. She did not measure the whole body, and my OB is very upset with her for even saying something like this. My doctors office tried to get report from her- and said it wouldn’t be in till tomorrow. I will never go back there. There are MANY skilled pediatric cardiologists in the Wexford and Pittsburgh area that I have seen for my children and never have experienced this. I am seeing MFM, OB the next two days. For her to give diagnosis like that without MFM doing the scan, or scanning and measuring the body, just put a ton of worry on me. I’m sure she’s been great to others snd is a good cardiologist. But the first impression comes from the front. And then again my exam was just full of worry anxiety. I feel as she did this on purpose as my MFM scan is not for another day. They would be the ones to diagnose this, not her. When meaureing a baby you do their entire body, not just the head and then tell me Something is wrong. God forbid something is wrong, I would want the professionals to tell me. Not a cardiac professional. My experience here was full of anxiety, presssure, embarrassment, and the staff including the cardiologist was rude and I would not Recommend this office. As I previously mentioned, I would go with anyone else. Her comments have left me with sleepless nights and worry. Please consider your options. We have been with Dr Kanani for almost 3 years now. I started seeing Dr Kanani while pregnant. Our daughter was born with a complete avsd and would require surgery within the first year of her life. Along with her diagnosis came a 2:3 chance of her having Down syndrome. As a pregnant mom, this is just something you never ever want to be told. I hit rock bottom and couldn’t move off the couch. One week after ds confirmation, we had an appointment with Dr Kanani. It is there that I broke down in the office when Dr Kanani asked about genetic testing. Dr Kanani grabbed a tissue, got down to my level, looked me right in the eye and said, “you will do this. You will get through this. You will treat this new baby like your other babies and you will be ok. Your baby will be ok, and you will be a great mom.” For the first time during my pregnancy, I was congratulated by a doctor. She never said the dreaded, “I’m sorry.” She made me feel like my baby mattered when other doctors struggled with this. Fast forward three months after birth and our beautiful baby girl was struggling. Dr Kanani was out of the country on vacation. She knew how fragile our little girl was prior to leaving, she called while on her trip and when I told her it was getting worse, she made a promise our little girl would have surgery before she was even back in the country. Her promise was kept. Our little girl was in surgery less than a week after that exact conversation. Fast forward to this past December and our little girl had a scary ICU stay. While the doctors at Children’s did not seem concerned, Dr Kanani wasn’t convinced her heart didn’t cause this episode. After an ECHO, we learned our daughter once again needed open heart surgery. Dr Kanani worked quickly with the surgeon and kept us in the loop the entire time and less than a month later, our little girl once again had her heart fixed. We love Dr Kanani. We love the way she takes the time to explain things, the entire picture of things. She is honest and compassionate about her ‘kids and babies.’ When we need something answered and have to call into the office, the staff are so nice and welcoming and help in every way they can. We love the quick responses we get especially because when it comes to the heart, we as parents, usually get overly anxious. Dr Kanani and her staff have been life savers for us by keeping us calm and level headed with their detailed responses. We couldn’t have asked to have been referred to a better cardiologist. After being given a fetal diagnosis of a VSD, we were sent to Dr. Kanani for a fetal echo. After 20 minutes of scanning she told me that she could find no evidence of any holes or defects, and that the baby's heart was perfect. Since being referred to 3 more doctors for non-heart related issues, each US and his post birth echo has found this VSD. Unfortunately after my visit with Dr. Kanani, mine and my husband's hopes were set unnecessarily high. Perhaps a more thorough exam would have saved us the rollercoaster of emotions in regards to our son's heart condition. Her office also swapped my records with another woman who was pregnant with twins, which took another 30 minutes to clear up administratively before the echo even began. She was a very sweet doctor, but inadvertently caused us some avoidable heartbreak. After being given a fetal diagnosis of a VSD, we were sent to Dr. Kanani for a fetal echo. She is a caring and knowledgeable doctor. She has treated our son who is delayed developmentally with compassion and humour to make his appointments stress-free. Would definitely recommend her to others.
My four year old has been treated by Dr. Kahnani since birth. She is a strong patient advocate, who cares deeply for her patients. She’s extremely thorough and knowledgeable. When asking my son, he “likes her because she keeps him healthy”. I agree wholeheartedly!
After a healthy pregnancy with no complications, our son was born a month early with a congenital heart defect. We began our relationship with Dr. Kahnani while our baby was in West Penn’s NICU. Through the past five years, we have come to appreciate her expertise and ability to treat the whole patient( and family) and not just heart issues. She has encouraged us to seek more information, and she partners with and communicates with other team members seamlessly. She’s able to be direct and honest, while compassionate, our favorite qualities. She has monitored our two following pregnancies to confirm healthy hearts. Years ago we got second opinion, to confirm her diagnosis. The doctor we saw studied under kahnani and confirmed what we knew.... she’s the best of the best! She’s a trusted part of our team, and we wouldn’t have it any other way!! After a healthy pregnancy with no complications, our son was born a month early with a congenital heart defect. We have been with Dr Kanani for the past 14 years. I was seeing her while I was still pregnant with my oldest son. He has a very complex heart defect and has had 4 open heart surgeries so far. I think she is fantastic. And I would never consider sending my son to another cardiologist. I feel like Dr Kanani is a part of our family.
My 2 year old grandson was diagnosed with truncous arteriosus before he was born. Dr. Kanani was so thorough with everything and explained what to expect from this diagnosis. She is patient advocate, she does not hesitate to call other physicians that are involved in his care. Being a nurse myself, I know this does not happen as much as we like to believe. I highly recommend her and thank God for her daily. She has brought peace to my family during a very scarey time in our lives and takes wonderful care of my honey! Dr. Kanani has been our son’s pediatric cardiologist for over two years. We went to her office before his birth for fetal echocardiograms. During this time she was diligent and thorough, trying to narrow down our son’s heart defect, truncus arteriosus; there are four types and therefore she wanted to get as accurate images as she could prenatally. During these visits, she also assisted us with information regarding prognosis, interventions, and directed us to the surgeons at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. She took her time with us then and continues to take her time with us during each of his appointments. She has a courteous and friendly staff who are always a pleasure to see! I specifically want to mention how attentive and knowledgeable Dr. Kanani is, and how I believe she is one of the best patient advocates! She personally contacted another cardiologist at Children’s when we were anxiously waiting to schedule our son’s first heart catheterization. The timing of appointments and interventions is vital to the health and well-being of those living with heart defects, and Dr. Kanani has proved to us she is willing to be an advocate and reach out to other healthcare professionals to ensure her patients are receiving the care they need. She genuinely wants the best outcome possible for each patient. I would highly recommend her to any family who has a child or family member with a heart defect. I saw Dr. Kanani two times over the span of a little under six months. The first time she was very lovely, at least compared to what I was used to from a doctor. Although, the was quite rushed and wasn't as thorough as I had heard she was and expected her to be. The second time I saw her was after a cardiac episode that was concerning because of my genetic disorder. However, the second appointment was horrible. She was very rude and didn't listen to my concerns and dismissed them all. She also made rude comments about my body and my geneticist. I don't know what I did to upset her the second time but it was a horrible experience. I left almost crying because of what she said. She just didn't take my condition or concerns seriously. She also prescribed me too high of a dosage of a medication for my body which I now realize after checking with other patients and doctors. Needless to say, I will be finding a new cardiologist. However, the nurses and other staff were amazing, just not her.
I have twin girls, and they were absolutely amazing with them, very helpful and friendly ❤️❤️
This woman is a Godsend! She is super intelligent, gifted, & awesome at what she does. Her staff goes above & beyond, and are all extremely sweet & thoughtful. We were lucky to have gotten reffered to her!
I have been a patient of Dr. Kanani's for 13 years now and she was been a wonderful cardiologist. She explained to me my heart condition thoroughly so that I knew what procedure I had as a baby and the future steps that would be needed. She is very kind and cares about her patients, I would highly recommend!
I found her to be one of the least compassionate doctors I’ve ever dealt with. She didn’t communicate with us at all. She sent a nurse in to tell us our daughter had an ASD when she was 2 days old then when my daughter was 4 months old and I had worked extremely hard to nurse her, she insisted I stop at our first appointment. She terrified me and literally asked me if nursing was more important than my daughter’s life. I didn’t realize these things were mutually exclusive. Thankfully, we got a second opinion. Her current cardiologist was very supportive and I’m happy to say our daughter is thriving. I found her to be one of the least compassionate doctors I’ve ever dealt with. Dr. Kanani has been an excellent cardiologist and sounding board for our family. We were diagnosed during pregnancy with a serious heart defect. It is not easy to hear that your baby is going to require open heart surgery--Dr. Kanani was very honest with us, explained in detail what she believed would be our treatment course, and continued supporting us while we were inpatient after our son's birth. She even called to check in on us because he had arrived quite early (11 weeks!). Dr. Kanani goes above and beyond her call of duty to be supportive, understanding, and just a generally great human being. We are thankful every single day for Dr. Kanani and the care she provides for our son. Our son also loves her and she's great with him! Calming him through his echo, singing to him, working with her staff to play videos for him, and making sure she gets one of his mega watt smiles every time we visit her! Dr. Kanani was great. She was upfront and friendly. The staff was friendly and their waiting room has toys and books to entertain themselves with while we waited. Which was also a very short time. Highly recommend!

I have given Dr. Kanani 5 stars because I trust her with my daughter’s life. She is extremely knowledgeable and has been seeing my daughter for about 15 years now. As far as I am concerned she may be the best in our country. However, I dread seeing her. For some reason she hates me, or that is how I am made to feel. I know that we all can’t have everybody like us. I am friendly, as well as my daughter. I pay for the visit up front. I wish I knew what I said, or did to make her dislike me.
Dr Kanani is fantastic. My daughter has bee her patient while still in eutoro. She has been with US through one open heart surgery(soon to be 2) plus multiple procedures. She is extremely knowledgeable and thorough. And she is very caring she not only lo Me out for our little miracle but comforts us when things go sideways.

Dr. Kanani has been the best Cardiologist for our little miracle princess. She has been our doctor since our daughter was en utero through 4 surgeries. I can't say enough good about her. She is pleasant and friendly in addition to being very knowledgeable and respectful of the parents' concerns for their child.
Dr, Kanani is an excellent cardiologist. She is professional and thorough. She is excited to see my son and spends time catching up with him personally as well as medically. Dr. Kanani educates us well on my son's condition. I appreciate her expertise. I am confident in the care my son receives from her. I trust her completely and would highly recommend her. Dr. Kanani has been our cardiologist for the past 8 years. The office staff and nurses are excellent as well.
Dr. Kanani has been my son's cardiologist since he was in utero, which means we've been her patients for 13 years. My son is the only one with the heart issues but she truly treats the whole family. She reviews the chart before she examines my son then sits with us after and discusses what she saw on the echo. She values the opinions, knowledge and intuition of parents. We literally trust her with our son's life.
Dr Kanani has taken care of my daughter since birth. My daughter has undergone two major open heart surgeries, and through the help of Dr Kanani is not only surviving, but thriving! She takes the time to listen to the parents concerns and explain things thoroughly. She is kind and compassionate, and overall a true blessing in our life. Her professionalism and expertise in the pediatric cardiology field is excellent.
Dr. Kanani quite literally saved our little girl's life. Her resume speaks for itself but her tenderness and incredible care for our daughter over the past seven years, not to mention her care for us, has been a true blessing! Our daughter had a life threatening abnormal heart rhythm found in utero and after several doctors we were losing hope for a diagnosis and direction of care. Dr. Kanani came into our lives and thanks to her our story has a happy ending.
Dr. Kanani is a rare find for a doctor in this day and age. She is very thorough, knowledgeable, caring, and compassionate. She performs her own echos and explains the results while you are there. You can tell she truly cares about each patient. I would recommend her to any parent in need of a pediatric cardiologist for their child.
Dr. Kanani has treated my son since before birth. His condition is complex and we travel over an hour to see her, bypassing even Pittsburgh cardiologists. Each visit, she thoroughly answers all of my questions and explains everything she sees. She doesn't brush over anything and wants me to understand my son's heart as well as she does. She truly treats my son as if he were her own and makes medical decisions with us, not for us, letting us know all of the options and helping us follow throug
Dr. Kanani is one in a million. She has been seeing my daughter for nine years. I was referred to her while pregnant with Lena, who was diagnosed with genetic disorder in utero. We thank God everyday for the referral! She is truly knowledgeable, honest, thorough, trustworthy, professional, personable; just an amazing doctor whom my little one has come to adore. She takes time to consult her colleagues (if need be) & always gets back to us with an answer & a plan! Doctors like her are a rare find
I took my daughter to see Dr. Kanani after seeing her high rating online. I was immediately disappointed as she was rude and accusing towards my daughter for having a genetic condition. We are switching to a different provider.
