Amazing Surgeon. Replaced my left ankle in 2020. No issues. I’m a big guy at 260-lbs. Another surgeon wanted to fuse my ankle. Not Dr. Basile. What a life saver.

I was very disappointed with my treatment. I never saw Dr. Basile during my visit. I was told to purchase a cream that was not available and I was billed more money with no explanation. I tried calling to get an explanation and could not speak with a live person.

I had my left foot operated on by Dr. Basile in March 2021. He corrected my bunion, tailor’s bunion, and shortened my second toe. He explained the whole process thoroughly, so I was left with no surprises during recovery. I followed his instructions, I don’t smoke, I ate well (no alcohol a week leading up to surgery and 2 months post surgery), took vitamin D and C supplements, and also had an excellent physical therapist (Norton Physical Therapy). I was running 7 weeks post surgery and I hiked the Bright Angel Trail to Plateau Point at the Grand Canyon exactly 8 weeks post surgery. And guess what? No pain! My left foot is now my favorite foot. Before surgery I was hobbling after a hike and I could barely stand having any type of shoe on by the end of each day. I used vitamin e oil and mederma once the wounds closed so I have minimal scars. He warned me the toe shortening would be the most painful part to recover from, and I agree with him (it’s a small area with not much room for nerves to fire off), but if you are willing to put in some work and do physical therapy, you will be back to your normal activities shortly. Oh, and your foot will look beautiful. Also, it’s not just Dr. Basile that is fantastic, his team of residents (who you will see during appointments and surgery) are also excellent. A great surgeon needs help from a great team and his practice provides that. Including his scheduler Melinda, super organized and will always get back to you. Update: I had my right foot done 3 months after my left foot. I was running 6 weeks post-op and did not need physical therapy. Once again, excellent work by Dr. Basile and his team. He removed pins from both feet a couple months after my right foot was done and it was a simple procedure in the office. Zero pain! I had my left foot operated on by Dr. Basile in March 2021. Dr. Basile disfigured my foot. He did a bunionectomy in which he cut my big toe too short but swears he did not. The top of my foot is puffy with scar tissue after 5 years still. He cut a ligament in my second toe and now it sticks straight out, won’t bend & is swollen with scar tissue. He promised to fix the baby toe & pushed it so close to the other toe, that it causes big, painful corns. Where he cut the big toe bone, I now have arthritis and it’s inflexible. I just had it confirmed with another podiatrist, via X-ray. Basile blamed me for the scar tissue.

In the ten years since my surgeries under Dr. Basile’s care I have found that he is not only a studied expert in his field and an excellent surgeon, but also talented and respectful in how he communicates with patients. I recently required a piece of hardware removed ten years after my surgery and the experience was excellent; I felt as though I was under care from the very top physician in the field. His staff is kind and respectful; I didn’t find issue in getting an appointment at all. Dr Basile is the most incredible doctor I’ve met to date. Every word since I met with him he has honored. As a matter of fact we seem to be ahead of schedule with my injury. Incredible bedside manners he always makes me cared for and a doctor of his amazing talents so down to earth. I’m so glad I got to know and trust Dr Basile he has literally saved my Charcot Foot. His team of physicians are second to none as well. You can see and noticed that they are learning from the best and I’m they are going to be a great attribute to many people like myself and others with foot problems because of Dr Basile. Every hospital stay at Mount Auburn has been such a delight. Great care everyone is very professional and the place is like a palace so clean. I’m grateful , thank you...

Dr. Basile is a friendly, communicative guy, happy to explain everything, takes his time with you, is very patient in surgical aftermath. He fixed a complex problem (my arthritic big toe, bunion, and the 2 smaller toes next to it) that was reaching the end of its fixability. Recommended to me as the best person for complex foot surgery by another excellent surgeon, my regular podiatrist Dr. Richard Cullen, who'd done surgery on my other foot. I'm walking normally again after 1 year--and I gather this was a feat! So to speak.

The bone in my big toe was giving me problems that I was unable to wear a shoe for months (fortunately in spring/summer). Dr Basile showed me the xray and explained everything to me. He also suggested while he was fixing that problem that I should have my bunion corrected too. He was very informative and collaborative to work with. He genuinely cares about your surgical post-op outcome and works with you to achieve the optimum results. He answers any and all concerns you might have. The staff is very congenial and knowledgeable as well. In addition, the surgical staff at Mt Auburn is phenomenal and very caring! They really kept my anxiety at bay since this was my first ever surgery. I could not have been in better hands and am so grateful for that!

Very professional office staff, minimal wait time. Dr. Basile has an excellent bedside manner and my bunionectomy procedure went very well. I had minimal post-operative pain, despite the horror stories I had heard about how painful the procedure is. I was walking in an aircast boot the next day and within one month I was out of the boot completely and back in shoes. I went to Dr. Basile for a second opinion. The first podiatrist I went to wanted me non weight bearing for 3 months post-op because my bunion was severe. Since I still work full time as a nurse practitioner, this weight bearing limitation wasn’t optimal. Thankfully I found Dr. Basile whose surgical technique required less restrictive weight bearing limitations and I have recovered without any complications. I would highly recommend Dr. Basile to anyone needing a podiatrist/surgery.

I am tardy writing this review but in 6/16 I fell off a ladder and sustained a calcaneus fracture, the bone was in 8 pieces. At the time I was 63 but extremely active. With the injury I sustained I was worried about what my future held. My PC, Dr Rabinowitz advised me that the only doctor I should consider was Dr. Basile. When I met with the doctor I voiced some of my concerns and he assured me to follow his recommended course of care and I would recover. Two months after my surgery they removed the cast and fit me with a boot, 1 month after that I was allowed to start walking without the boot. By Jan. of that year, I started snow shoeing, skating and walking. By the spring I was back up to 7 miles a day. Today I walk without a limp and have zero limitations. I feel that I owe the quality of life I now have and am extremely grateful to Dr Basile and his staff who are also awesome. I feel I could not have been in better hands. Thank you all !!! I injured myself at the front end of an extended European vacation, was diagnosed and received treatment for an ankle injury, , was told to be patient, and so proceeded with my travels. By the time my travelling and patience ran out, months had passed and my ankle area still ached. Finally I was referred to Dr. Basile and through his expertise discovered I had sustained multiple undiagnosed injuries to my foot and leg, including tearing my Achilles tendon. He explained the surgical process and recuperation schedule, and thanks to his talent and ongoing guidance my recuperation was actually easier than anticipated. I'd give him six stars if I could, and only wish I had found him months earlier. Also, his support team reflects his high standards and is a wonderful asset to his practice. Lesson learned: Don't put off investigating and acting on your foot pain -- you'll be fine with Dr. Basile.

Dr. Basile has preformed bunion removal surgery on both feet. After hesitating I finally went for a consultation and I don’t regret it at all. Bunion surgery seems scary but Dr. Basile explained everything well and I followed his instructions exactly and it was a wonderful experience.

I am over the Moon about my visit with Dr. Basile! He has answered my prayers by telling me he can perform an ankle replacement, that I had been previously told by another surgeon, would not be possible. He is a compassionate man, and in fact was just on channel 5 news for his phenomenal work.

Dr. Basile was a lifesaver! He did revision surgery on my bunion & hammertoe to correct a previous surgery that hadn't worked. After 4 other second opinions from top foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons, I chose Dr. Basile because he knew exactly what to do. He used the latest technology (screws, titanium joint) and his post surgery estimates were 100% accurate- I was off crutches, in a sneaker within 3 weeks and able to walk without pain in 6 weeks (vs. 7 months the first time). Foot's all fixed!

I had surgery with Dr. Basile after my daughter had such a successful experience with him for her bunion and hammertoe. He took the time to explain things in great detail and his prognosis of recovery was very accurate. I was able to put shoes on within 10 days after he corrected my crossover second toe. He treats the whole person and cares about how quickly you can resume normal activity. We've recommended Dr. Basile to so many other people - it's hard to find a great foot doctor & surgeon!

Dr. Basile operated on my R foot in November. All seemingly went well. I was doing fine and even went Hiking. However, In mid May I began having a lot of pain and am now using crutches just to get out of bed. I am back in physical therapy and am getting nowhere. I called his office three weeks ago and an answering machine told me to leave a message and they would get back to me. I left a message letting them know how much trouble I was having. Never got a return call. Two weeks later I called and made sure I spoke with his nurse who apologized for not getting back to me and took my info and said Dr Basile was out of the office and I would hear from them by Thursday. Never got a call. On my previous message I had asked if maybe I should have an MRI prior to my visit due to his office being a 2 hour drive for me. I called again on Monday after receiving no return call. His nurse put me on hold then returned to tell me he was not willing order an MRI without seeing me. If I didn't want to drive I should call Dr Gavigan, who originally referred me to Dr Basile, in Bourne. I called Dr Gavigans office at 9:10am. Office is open but only get an answering machine which states they would call me back unless I had called after hours in which case they would call back the next day. Waited all day. No return call. Called again at 4:15 and office is closed. I have been in pain for weeks longer than I should be without knowing if I am doing any damage to my foot by walking on it. If you want to be deserted by your doctor when you need him please see Dr Basile. Also avoid Dr Gavigan Dr. Basile operated on my R foot in November. All seemingly went well. I am so very lucky to have had Dr. Basile perform my foot surgery. It was a very long, rough road how I ended up in his hands. 10 Years ago I was told that after another doctor performed surgery on my foot that my bones were too thin to have been able to fix it. I did not know any better so I suffered for 10 years with my foot the same way. Then I ended up finding a Doctor Wu in Revere Massachusetts. This was the second mistake I had made regarding this issue. The doctor and I had a plan to have my left hip operated on by a hip surgeon of course, prior to getting my foot done. We then waited a year to schedule my foot surgery. We scheduled for March 16, 2018. Then she called me to tell me that she wanted to make sure the insurance was in order(( she already did this but Ok)) so she needed one more week and reschedule the surgery to March 22. The surgery was confirmed by her office and the hospital the night before. I went into the hospital on the schedule time prior to surgery at 7:30 AM the blocked surgery space was for 9:00 AM. I went into the hospital on the schedule time prior to surgery at 7:30 AM the blocked surgery space was for 9:00 AM. At 9:15 AM the hospital called Dr. Wu to find out if she was going to be much longer. She asked to speak to me and proceeded to tell me that she did not realize my surgery was scheduled for that day and was 45 minutes away and the hospital could not accommodate any more time. (( actually there was time at the end of the day but she neglected to tell me that)) I was already prepped for surgery. I was in the Johnny and I had the needles in my arms and I had signed consent forms and been visited by the anesthesiologist. She said she rebooked it for the following Friday but the next day she called me at home and told me that she had bad news that she would not be performing my surgery then or ever. Her reasons were because she was going to China in May which we already knew about because she made sure I knew that months and months prior to the surgery so that I would know she would not possibly be able to see me on the fifth or sixth visit following surgery. Then she also said that most likely I was angry because of her not showing up so that if anything happened that was incorrect during the surgery I might become even more angry. She said she took a close look at my case and said that she asked 5 of her colleagues to see me for the fifth and sixth visit and they declined. She also said a couple of other crazy things and yelled at me that she could not help everybody in the world. My primary got a hold of her and she told them she feared my insurance would not pay and then told thevhisoutal if I paid out of pocket she might consider doing it. REMEMBER THIS WAS ALREADY PREAPPROVED TWICE! Needless to say, I was very upset and bewildered did so I proceeded to seek help from the Melrose Wakefield Hospital Officers. This is how I was led to Dr. Basile. As everything happens for a reason, Dr. Wu would not have been able to perform this difficult surgery and Dr. Basile did with excellency. I really admire this Surgeon and I like him for his professionalism and knowledge and personality. I want to add something to the story and I plan on making the statement in different modes of communication. Doctors need to humble themselves when they feel that they are not equipped to perform procedures on individuals. Both doctors I encountered prior to Dr. Basile Could not have fixed my foot but they could have told me this so that I would not have to suffer and go through all of this unnecessary hardship. Dr. Basile is an awesome Dr and person. You’re lucky to have him as an option and by the way he is humble and if he thinks he can’t help you he will tell you, not likely though he is brilliant! Thank you gorbyou time! I am so very lucky to have had Dr. Basile perform my foot surgery. Dr. Basile operated on my right foot in 2014. I had waited so long, that I was no longer able to walk. What he did was a transformation for me. It was a very complex surgery, with a severely deformed foot that was a full inch and half wider foot from my left, to a normal looking foot the same size as my left. I also checked him out prior to working with him, with two other surgeons, who said he was a true artist in how he was able to re-shape feet. I would agree. Though I might say that wait times are sometimes long - it is clear he tries to take adequate time with each patient, which is rare these days. Add in a bit of time for your appointment and bring a book - its completely worth any wait time. He is a perfectionist - a highly desirable characteristic to have as a surgeon. He gets it right. Dr Basile performed surgery on my foot for a Grade III Osteoarthritis of my Big Toe Joint. The procedure was a Hemi titanium implant and 1st Metatarsal Osteotomy. Right after surgery, I was able to bear weight as tolerated with my foot in a rigid post-op shoe. I used crutches for the first 4 or 5 days. Within 2 1/2 weeks, I was walking in a normal athletic shoe and driving again. I feel very fortunate that my local podiatrist referred me to Dr Basile for his expertise in this type of surgery.

After a full year of multiple medical issues including multiple sepsis infections, a toe amputation, nearly dying, and approximately nine months out of work, I went to Dr. Basile for a second opinion on my deteriorating condition, after being told by another Dr. that it woudl be necessary to amputate the rest of my toes on the right foot and probably take some of the foot as well.
