I had a great experience from the moment Dr. Basta walked in the room. He showed me compassion & listened to my concerns. He put me at ease and I felt confident in his ability. By the time my appointment was over he had me laughing. Not only that, but he’s a highly skilled surgeon. I had a successful surgery & am now pain free with zero complications. Dr. Peter Basta. When i had my C3 C 4 Spinal cord Fused front the front of my neck he Broke my Hyoid bone. Dr. Peter Basta in surgery reports he is identified that he is having severe difficulty. Dr. Basta knew he broke the bone on a Phone call when I noticed his office on return call that's recorded. I have images of Before the surgery and showed no broken bone and after the surgery it clearly shows a Broken Hyoid bone. I suffered a life threatening situation after his botched surgery. Dr. Basta took responsibility after he knew of the broken bone yet Quote ( I did break your neck ) Then he states All the best. My appt was canceled two days before my visit. I found this out when I called the day before my scheduled visit. The female that answered the phone said the appt was canceled because I hadn’t confirmed it the week before. That is nonsense. I waited two months for that appointment. Their next available was in three months. Absolutely unacceptable. The amount of pain I’m in and to wait 5 months to see this doctor is ridiculous. According to her the doctor is extremely busy and can’t afford to wait the day of to see if someone will actually show up on their scheduled appt date and time. Dr Basta performed my surgery on extremely short notice, did an absolutely amazing job, and made sure my wife and I were comfortable both prior to and after the surgery. He is very kind, has a great bedside manner and is an excellent surgeon!

I wish I had found Dr. Basta sooner! He is a fantastic doctor, both at his technical expertise AND bedside manner. From the beginning, he listened to me and my wife, explained the options, and didn't pressure us into a decision. I've had the misfortune of needing several back surgeries and was really nervous after my last surgery with a different doctor. Dr. Basta and his nurse honored and respected my fears and anxiety. I wish I had found Dr. Basta sooner! His care and treatment of me and my wife was excellent. I had a lot of anxiety out my back surgery due to negative experiences with other surgeons. Dr. Basta and his staff excelled in every way. Lisa was incredible, so kind, reassuring and helpful. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Basta, he is one of the good ones.

Dr. Basta assumed my tumor was benign, but it wasn't and he did not order a biopsy to confirm this assumption. The tumor wasn't benign and grew for a month while we waited for surgery. I went to KU for a second opinion and by that time it was inoperable. The first thing the KU neurosurgeon did was biopsy the tumor the next day where we discovered it was cancer. I was in the next day after the diagnosis (which took a day to figure out), to get chemo because of the severity of the situation. I went to Dr Basta for a second opinion. I just met Dr Basta yesterday to discuss back surgery. I was very impressed with him. It was evident that he had reviewed my problems before coming in. He took plenty of time explaining everything. He explained what the operation and expected outcome would be. Also possible complications. I feel very good about having Dr Basta do my surgery.

Dr.Basta spent a lot of time with my husband and me . He gave us a wonderful explanation of everything that was indicated on my MRI and the possible solution and the realities of the results of the surgery that is the solution. This was my 3rd visit in 6 years the other 2 times he told me my problem was not bad enough to do surgery and we did other treatment. As I have aged it continued to worsen and now surgery is necessary. I appreciate the fact he gave me 6 more years before having major surgery.

I saw Dr Basta today. Wow just wow. He took his time and I felt no question sent unanswered, I have total confidence following his lead on my medical issue.

6 years ago yesterday Dr. Basta did my decompression brain surgery for Chiari Malformation. He did an amazing job. I've have 2 of the best Chiari Neurosurgeons in the world Dr. Capoceli and Dr. Gilmer both say he did an amazing job. I'm very to have found him in Missouri because most Chiari doctors you have to travel far. Dr Basta is the best! I needed a spinal fusion and was scared to death. My life was painful and it hurt to walk. He convinced me this was the best course of care. Well, I’m 6 months post surgery and my life style is back to normal! I am back to hiking and biking again. I wouldn’t go to anyone else and have referred him to friends.

Dr. Basta and his entire staff were professional and caring throughout my entire process. Highly recommended.

Dr Basta was very informative in details of my brain tumor. He answered all my questions. He will not operate unless he has to , I like that due to the type of tumor that I have. This was my first experience with back surgery and with Dr. Basta. In all honesty, Dr. Basta, his staff and my experience the day of my surgery at Research Hospital exceeded all my expectations. I walked out of the hospital the afternoon of my surgery pain free. Other staff members that I would like to thank include: Lisa (RN) who is Dr. Basta's surgical nurse; Ann & Josh (RNs?) in the OR; Joan (RN) during my initial hospital check-in process; and Kate (RN) who cared for me in Post-Op recovery. I was very scared and apprehensive about having back surgery period, but after talking to Dr. Basta he laid it out with what to expect what the complication could be and the recovery time. He is easy to talk to, down to earth and tells you how it is in plain English. I would recommend Dr. Basta very highly. His staff is exceptional and always there to answer questions.

Dr. Basta took great care of me and he continues to do so. He and all of his staff treat me like one of their own family members and I trust them completely. Thank you for helping me!

This was a 2nd surgery for me. I had not felt my right foot for over a decade. He was amazing! I woke up and said I feel my foot. My husband called him badass. He knows what he is doing. Thanks to Dr. Basta, I am able to be much more active.

Very happy with the care Dr Basta has provided

After an incorrect date on my paperwork and a two month wait to see Dr. Basta , I went for my appointment. He had an emergency surgery that morning and wasn't seeing any patients that day. Neither of my phone numbers which the Dr. office had been provided, had recorded a missed phone call and neither of my phones had any messages or texts or any attempts to contact me, recorded on them. I understand emergency surgeries, what I can't accept is that NO ONE ATTEMPTED TO NOTIFY ME. Further, when I phoned the office (no one initiated a to call me from his office), Veronica lied to me and told me that she had left a message. At that time, they said they would call the next day and I was on hold for an unacceptable amount of time as Veronica found someone else to speak with me. This person told me they would call me back the next day after talking to Dr. Basta's nurse. She phoned the next day at 4:59 and when I attempted to return the call (I was driving) the office was closed.

Very straightforward about what to expect with the surgery. He and all of his staff are always friendly, courteous and helpful—answered my questions and never made me feel rushed. Extremely professional without being distant.

Dr Basta has been my brain neurosurgeon since 2009. I was in need of an immediate appointment and he accepted me as his patient in three days. I have benefited from his care and advice ever since. I know he is well prepared to help everyone

I had back and neck surgery and Dr. Basta did them both it has been 10 years he is the best all around before and after surgery. I know so many people who've had to have repeat surgeries on the same areas not me I'm very happy my husband is going to him now

I highly recommend Doctor Peter Basta! I had major back surgery that lasted almost 5 hours! He and his team were and are magnificent! I was afraid in the beginning, but he explained and showed me on a model what gets would be doing! My surgery is 16 months old. I've been back in the gym since last September. Nearly 4 years of lower back and right sciatica pain and going thru years of Insurance protocol I finally had back surgery. The best decision I made. It's been 6 months out of surgery and I am actually pain free. I am so pleased to have found Dr. Basta. Thank you for giving me my life back.

Dr Basta is a very caring, thorough physician, who saw me for a back injury. He immediately ordered an MRI, and direct admitted me to the hospital and performed surgery the next morning; as he could see the pain I was in and how urgently I needed something done. He took great care of me and I would highly recommend him as a neurosurgeon. He listened to all of my concerns and explained everything to me, so I had no hesitation when he wanted to operate.I’m very thankful to have him as my surgeon

Dr. Basta is one of a kind. His credentials are second to none; but more importantly, his bedside manner is top notch! The first time I met him, I felt like I had known him for years. He doesn’t talk above you, he talks to you. He understood the pain i was in and saw urgency in getting me relief. I am blessed to be his patient and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

I based my selection of Dr. Basta on Healthgrades reviews. He was a second opinion on a surgery I had been considering. He didn't push the surgery on me at all but carefully and thoroughly explained my condition after reviewing my tests and provided me with options. I did end up having Dr. Basta perform surgery on my neck and spine and it could not have gone any better. So not only is he a skilled surgeon, but every consultation I've had pre and post has been great. Staff is great too.

Dr. Basta is easy to talk to and a straight shooter. I had 3 herniated discs and Dr. Basta performed a micro discectomy that was a complete success. Don't suffer any longer and get a consult. I can't thank him enough for returning my life back to a normal full schedule.

Dr. Basta is very caring and takes the time to explain everything in terms you can understand. I feel very confident and very glad to have him as my doctor. I recommend him to anyone who is looking for a neurologist in the Kansas City area that will give you excellent care.

My husband had back surgery last year and is still having issues. After seeing Dr. Basta in March and a second MRI along with xrays, we are now looking at 3 1/2 months of waiting to get the results of these tests. Despite numerous calls to the office NOBODY seems to be able to provide these results. Dr Basta told us he reads films once a month but now we are seriously looking at maybe once a quarter. This is ridiculous. Needless to say we are switching doctor's.

I met Dr. Basta for the first time last week and I just loved him.. He was very upbeat, nice, caring, and listened to everything I had to say. Dr Basta is the exception, not the rule, based on my experience. He did what no other doctor in the area seemed interested in doing - surgery. I found Dr. Basta to be more human than most non-doctors I encounter. I could immediately sense his extreme attention to detail. I was a little concerned to have my surgery done at Research Medical Center but, felt very at-ease with Dr. Basta's recommendation. In my opinion, Dr. Basta is not only an excellent surgeon, but is a man that talks to you, tells you what he recommends and why, and most of all answers any questions you might have. A very open person, he has a great attitude.

Dr Basta has the ability to actually listen, he treated like a person - not just another woman with a headache. He and his staff are sensitive and professional. It is obvious that he has a great team that respect and support each other and the people they are helping.
