Perry Boryee Shieh

I've been a patient of Dr. Sheih for nearly a decade. He has really helped me. I find him open to questions, patient and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend. My only frustration is UCLA/office coordination (as it seems like many other people are complaining about). It has ebbed and flowed through the years, but currently is a mess. They don't have an in-depth online system. It's hard to get someone on the phone. Last time it took 3 phone calls and a lost email to refill my meds. When it finally got done, the assistant kept saying "no worries" while I was trying to explain what a hassle this process has become for medication I'm supposed to be on in perpetuity. The fact that she didn't seem to understand why this system was unsustainable made me want to scream. Sharing this bc I find it helps to set my expectations. The admin part will be a hellscape, the schedule is always running behind, but Dr. Sheih is a well-qualified, attentive and friendly doctor worth the hassle.

Dr. Shieh is one of the most caring, knowledgeable, and professional doctors we have met. He is in the advanced research in neurological field of medicine and he cares for his patients. It is shame that long waiting time and communication problems at UCLA hospital affected his rating. Still waiting here for the doctor to arrive. Appointment is scheduled for 3pm and it's now 3:52pm. We we just informed by the front desk that it'll be another 30 to 45 minutes because he's still coming from another hospital. I read all of these reviews prior to my visit so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can only speak for myself in context of my condition and I am very happy that I was referred to Dr. Shieh. I have had 2 visits to date and all have gone exactly how I hoped they would.

He was over an hour late for my appointment. Knew nothing about why I was there or why he was doing testing. Was in a hurry to get me in and out since he started my appointment after 5pm. Tested the wrong body part instead of the one that is causing me the most issues. Was just a complete waste of my time. Extremely disappointed.

extremely surprised to hear all of these awful reviews about Shieh!I have been dealing with Back and shoulder pain for years and only in the last 7 months has it gotten worse to the point where I can barely use my right arm. I have two amazing surgeons at UCI, Doctor Bhatia for my back and Doctor Gupta for my shoulder. Gupta spent a ton of time researching and calling to get me into see Shieh. Another person summed it up very well. If you don't live in his 2 inch by 2 inch universe he has no interest in helping you. Inhumane. I have a neurological condition and he said my condition was not in his specialty and I should have been referred somewhere else. I was obviously in his specialty and it was obvious he wasn't listening and had predetermined before entering the room that he was never going to help me. Bureaucratic nightmare. Want to go to another Dr and it literally takes months to get my medical records. They lost my test results initially. Your appointment time is merely a suggestion. They don't answer the phone or call back. Dr Shieh, is kinda vague and arrogant. I don't expect anyone to care really, but you would at least expect them to care enough about the work to find an answer.

We found Dr. Sheih to be arrogant and condescending. He was reading my reports, that I had sent three months ago while we waited an hour in the exam room for him.

If you don't fit into the 2 square inches of Dr. Shieh's universe, he is ZERO interested in helping you further. I had to really push to get referred out for further testing. Then, you have to deal with his staff which is truly awful. They are slow and bureaucratic. They don't care about you. It's quite impossible to get to speak with anyone. UCLA neurology and Dr. Shieh is a big let down.

He never returns any of my calls. His staff never follows up and does not care whether or not your questions are answered or resolved. Wish I found a better neurologist who listens and who truly is concern about my recovery and wellness.
