When Dr. Paul Saunders said I needed my hear valve replaced, I was apprehensive because I am a geriatric patient. Yet, Dr. Saunders and his office support team said that the procedure was fairly routine, claiming he performed it on patients older than me. During the procedure, Dr. Saunders placed a scope down my esophagus which damaged it, but he was unaware that he had done so until he saw a copious amount of blood. I required stents to hold my esophagus in place and tubes in order to breathe. I later learned that the doctors were uncertain I would survive that first night. When Dr. Saunders called my son that night, he spoke about the procedure. He nonchalantly later mentioned that my esophagus was damaged, but his manner led my son to think the matter was not too serious. My daughter called Dr. Saunders, who told her that he had seen me throughout the week and that I was doing well. The reality is that it has now been almost five months since the procedure, but I have not seen Dr. Saunders since he was with me in the operating room. Dr Saunders said the procedure would require two days in the hospital. But the procedure left me unable to eat, so a feeding tube was inserted. This led to a prolonged hospital stay and three months in a rehab facility. A throat specialist said I should attempt to eat two teaspoons of mashed potatoes a day, but the food goes into my lungs, so I had to stop ingesting anything. The specialist said the damage is likely permanent and I may never eat again. This means no water, coffee with friends, or family holiday dinners. In addition to this irreparable damage, I have been left with exorbitant bills, which I did not anticipate nor could pay. The doctor and hospital did not reach out to me about waiving these bills. Dr. Saunders performed a heart valve replacement that left me with a bleeding, irreparably damaged esophagus when he placed the scope into it. I am now unable to eat or drink anything and required a feeding tube that will likely be permanent; I now nust have constant assistance. Dr. Saunders told me the procedure calls for a two-day hospital stay, but mine was three months long. Through it all, Dr. Saunders has not seen or contacted me, but I did receive exorbitant bills, which I cannot pay. A specialist recently told me that my vocal cords are separated, so it appears the scope was carelessly jammed into my esophagus.

Dr. Paul Saunders saved my brother Mario’s life! He is an extremely effective physician. I watched how diligently he worked for several weeks and then enabled my brother to recover after being diagnosed with the swine flu several years ago. Dr. Saunders monitored everything while my brother was on the artificial lung machine (Echmo). I attribute it all to him. Thank you for extending my brother’s life.

I left a review and ran out of characters, the next day I found out he knew for a fact he severed his esophagus during the surgery placing an ultra sound probe down his throat to view the functioning of the heart valve, he noticed blood coming out of my fathers mouth and placed a stent around his esophagus to try to control bleeding, the end result is now my father is in a rehab with a feeding tube in his stomach, can not eat anything or will aspirate, during this Dr. Saunders has been reluctant to speak to family and avoiding us and never came to see my father at all. By hiding from the family and not seeing my father show that Dr. Saunders is fully aware that he screwed up and my lawyer is as well.

Dr Saunders and his team went to another institution to pick up my son while on the brink of death. He is very transparent and thorough in all he does. He kept me informed and was always ready, willing and able to explain everything in details. He is very approachable and never waited on us to ask questions, he would always approach us to give an update on my son. Did I mention how THOROUGH and DETAILED he was? His team is also a reflection of the kind of Dr he is!!!

Dr. Paul Saunders is a fantastic thoracic and cardiac surgeon. Not only did he save my life during my massive heart attack, but he is also very dedicated and thorough in his work & follow ups. His carefully chosen team was outstanding as well.
