Oscar Kenneth Serrano

Unfortunately, I have being dealing with many Doctors over the years and Dr Serrano is as good as it gets. He staff is equally amazing. I had been dealing with Doctors from Yale New Haven and they just weren't as competent. He takes the time, so you understand what you need to do. Every question received a thoughtful response. He is awesome!!

Dr Serrano is a great Doctor. he is caring and makes sure you understand what is going on and offers all choices available with kindness. the entire staff are very kind, pleasant with a smile. We need more people like them in this world. thank you for all your help.

Dr. Serrano is very knowledgeable. He took as much time as I needed in answering all of my questions. He has a good bedside manner. I would highly recommend him.

I received a kidney transplant in January 2022, when COVID variant Omicron was at an all time high. I expected the care would be compromised because of short staffing, but instead my care was outstanding! Dr Oscar Serrano did a great job with my surgery and care. His bedside manner was wonderful - I highly recommend him to anyone needing a kidney transplant, as well as, the Hartford Transplant team! My experience with aftercare was just as great. The nursing team was professional, responsive and kind - I felt like I was the only patient there, but the floor was actually at capacity! The nurses were all excellent! The PA’s were just as great - I had an initial complication after surgery and needed significant post procedures. Dan and Ryan were awesome and stayed with me until the issue cleared up. My experience recovering there was wonderful and I’m so grateful for the Hartford Hospital Transplant Recovery Team, 3rd Floor. CB3 has a sign that says: ‘The Gift of Life’; these young professionals gave me a great start with my new kidney and I was blessed by each one who gave me care. Dr. Serrano is one of the most talented surgeons ever. He performed a 9 hour Whipple on my husband in November. Stunning. If you need Hepatobiliary or a transplant surgery this is the guy for you.

Dr. Serrano took his time to explain my upcoming surgery and to make sure I was okay with everything.

Spent time asked for additional questions.

He was incredibly rude and forgot to order my medication and blamed other people on the team and was extremely condescending and irritable with me and the team Very unprofessional

My experience with the Hartford Hospital Transplant Team has been nothing short of miraculous. Dr Serrano is a top notch professional, excellent surgeon and I trust him with my life! All members of the team caring, knowledgeable, and have very high standards.

Dr. Serrano and his staff were very imformative, compassionate and above all made us feel safe and secure in our decisions. Dr. Serrano informed us of all our options and was never pushy. Before and aftery dads surgery Dr. Serrano kept our family informed every step of the way on what was going to happen. Dr Serrano was at my dad's bedside everyday my father was in the hospital. Wish I could give 10 stars. My grandmother has pancreatic cancer. Other doctors told her it was non-receptacle. Finally we were referred to Dr. Serrano. He called that same day, Friday. He’d seen her scans and felt she was a surgery candidate. He would see her Monday morning. She fell terribly ill before then. He said to bring her right in. They would stabilize her and start prepping for a next-week surgery. After 3 days, she stabilized, but she still could barely eat or drink anything without intense pains. He moved the surgery up. Gave her 4 days to get strong. Although he was off duty that weekend, he checked on her every day. Numerous doctors and health professionals we met said if they needed a Whipple, they’d want him to do it. Impeccable record. Immaculate skill. He had never had a patient who didn’t take blood before. He took time to learn her wishes exactly. He was careful, and minimized blood loss. She is now recovering beautifully. This is the surgeon you want. Wish I could give 10 stars. To this point, I've had a great experience with Dr. Serrano and the professionals at the Transplant Center. Dr. Serrano spent all the time I needed in giving me information and answering my questions during my pre-operation appointment. Of particular note during this entire process is the professionalism, courtesy and responsiveness of my Transplant Coordinator, Kari Rancourt. I've received answers to every question I've posed and today, on her day off, she will be coordinating my upcoming surgery. Dr. Serrano is an outstanding doctor. He is kind, considerate, compassionate and knowledgeable in all areas. He did my surgery right before Thanksgiving and was there for a daily visit. When the results of the surgery came in it was a snowy, icy day. He walked over from his office to tell me the news that the cancer hadn’t spread. You are in good hands when you have him for a doctor. Five stars in all areas.

Dr Serrano was the BEST!!!! He handled my husbands Whipple Surgery with the utmost professionalism!!! He had the nurse updating me throughout the day and then even called me when he was able to step away for a moment. This was a 13 hour surgery and what a fantastic team!!! I was unable to be there due to COVID-19 but was kept up to date throughout. Couldn’t have gotten any better care anywhere else!!! Dr Serrano was the BEST!!!!
