Due to pressing circumstances I was not able to make the time set for my surgery. Dr. Gates and his team worked with me to find a better time, and even then said they would stay as long as possible so that I could get the urgent surgery on the scheduled date. Extremely grateful for Dr. Gates and his teams patience

For my 1st time ever in a situation like this; It was the best experience I've ever had. Dr gates walked me through every single step as he was resetting my ankle. Very knowledgeable and personable

Dr Gates was perfectly clear and concise with his knowledge and having the best approach to my specific situation thru a non surgical option for now. Couldn’t have been more impressed. Highest recommendation possible for any ex high level athletes, marathoners, ultras, etc.

Dr. Gates was terrific. Quickly ascertained my son’s problem and explained it clearly.

Doctor Gates I’ve seen 2x now and both times he has been super nice, compassionate and professional!! He thoroughly explained in detail to my understanding what was/is going on with my problem feet and ankles! Now we have a plan (fairly long one) to a complete recovery, with more options down the road if need be.

Dr Gates is the best. He may not shake your hand or hug you but he knows what he is doing. I had a catastrophic injury in my foot that he repaired. It’s been a year plus and three surgeries later. I have been a patient of Dr Gates on and off for at least 15yrs. I have problematic flat feet which he has been able to keep functioning for me with various braces and specialized orthotic additions when necessary. In addition to being recognized as a highly rated foot surgeon, I also wanted to highlight, that he has been most helpful to me in working to reduce the need for a surgical solution which is also very important. Dr. Gates was great. He explained things well and everything went as he said it would. If you had seen my before x-ray it was like putting puzzle pieces back in place. After seeing my after x-ray, I have to say I was very impressed. I am just now at my 6month healing point and I'm doing fine. My experience was not favorable. A neighbor recommend him and I am still dealing with a messed up foot from his surgery.

I have had 2 reconstructive surgeries over the years to correct a birth deformity. Neither operation was performed by Dr. Gates. I simply payed him a visit to know how the problem has changed over the years since the former doctor no longer practices. Not one doctor in the kentucky area would agree to see me due to lack of expertise on the matter. My concerns were simply my own and I didn't want anymore from Dr. Gates aside from an assessment. He came in and looked at my chart and asked me, " what do I want?" I'm can tell Dr. Gates has the knowledge and expertise of an amazing orthopedic doctor but absolutely insensative to what his or may not be his patients have indured and still may be. It felt extremely rushed and lacking compassion. I had no alterior purpose for obtaining this assessment aside from seeing how its changed over the years and if the level of pain I experience daily was normal and basically put just the way it will be for me. There are many things I was advised not to perform by my former doctor but Dr. Gates would not confirm these for me and sent me out the door as if I were there for a sprained ankle. Took plenty of time, explained well and listened.

Dr Gates exceeded all my expectations. He was unusually knowledgeable in his diagnosis and put it in terms the lay person can understand. He is down to earth and a lot of fun ; yet you immediately sense your in the presence of a seasoned professional. Rare combination and a credit to his field.

After suffering for years with a painful left ankle, I saw Dr Gates to discuss what options I had available to me. He explained in detail what I could expect from fusion and or ankle replacement. I opted for the replacement surgery and I am extremely happy with the end result. Thank you Dr. Gates and Lisa.

Front desk staff as well as clinical staff are very professional and very knowledgeable. Anytime I call with an issue, everyone is very pleasant, patient and kind. Very nice and explained everything.

Dr Gates and the entire staff at orthocincy was excellent. Broke my ankle on Sunday, appt in his office on Monday and surgery on Wednesday. I’m not a person who likes any kind of doctor visit- their treatment through the whole experience made me feel less apprehensive. Dr Gates’ confidence about what needed to be done was very reassuring.

I felt very rushed by Dr Gates. I felt as if he was putting words in my mouth to form his diagnosis rather than listen to what I had today. I will not see Dr Gates going forward.

Dr. Gates has been the most supportive, friendly, and all around incredible surgeon throughout my unfortunately messy journey fixing my ankle. He gets full credit for getting me to walk pain free. Dr. Gates is one of the best doctors I’ve ever interacted with, and will explain exactly what he’s thinking and have a conversation about your treatment as opposed to other doctors/surgeons who sometimes just talk at you. Dr. Gates is very professional. He came in with a plan , making me feel very comfortable and confident in his ability to repair my ankle to get me back to my active lifestyle. Greeted with a smile by a friendly Receptionist, Nurses, X-Ray Technologist and Surgery scheduler. Dr. Gates is always Professional and explains in detail what my options are. He answers all my questions and assures me they will take good care of me. I had my foot operated on last August, doing great, and I will be having surgery on my other foot. My whole surgery experience went so smoothly! No pain, iced around the clock, and my aftercare was handled with kind and thoughtful staff. Dr. Gates was referred to me by a friend. I needed a second opinion, after a recent visit to a podiatrist. Dr. Gates recommended a less invasive procedure and I am thrilled with the results from my surgery. He was very thorough in explaining my options and the procedure. Dr. Gates and his staff were very professional. Dr. Gates made sure I was comfortable with his diagnosis and understood the process to resolve my issue. I did not feel rushed during the appointment. The office waiting time was minimal and the office staff followed the COVID-19 protocols. My visit was a very good experience.

I visited Dr Gates with what I was told was a severely sprained ankle. After Dr Gates got x rays redone he seen I had a broken bone within seconds ended up doing surgery everything was great I’d give him 5 stars with my first experience. Years later I had severe pain in my other foot. Pain was so bad I couldn’t put any pressure on my foot. No injury just woke up to the pain. I wanted to see Dr Gates but had to go with a different doctor at Cincyortho who told me I had a stress fracture or possible stress reaction in my foot. Put me in a boot and sent me to see Dr Gates weeks later. After seeing Dr Gates he asked me a few questions and was automatically convinced I had plantar fasciitis. Told me to take off the boot and keep walking on it. A month or two later same thing wake up can’t walk again from extreme pain from left side of my foot and under big toe the pain is so bad I really can’t pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from. Basically the whole foot except heal. Go back to first Dr who says it’s a stress fracture. Tells me to put on the boot and continue walking on it. I tried to explain to him I can’t walk on it because it’s to painful. He misunderstands what I’m saying thinking I’m saying the boot causes me pain and tries to put me in a cast which I refused since he can’t even tell me what the problem is. I had lost all confidence in him but took the boot and followed the instructions. Go back to Gates who says again it’s plantar fasciitis. Now I went to Beacon for a second opinion they say I have a stress fracture of my sesamoid Which is different part of foot than first dr said. Go back to Dr Gates after another flare up of pain after waiting weeks to see him the pain is all but gone when I get in. He again says it is plantar fasciitis. I then tell him I went to Beacon he then gets very confrontational. We went back and forth he then changes my problem to sesamoididas but i’m told to just keep walking on a foot I can’t put any pressure on when it flares up. Missing weeks of work in the process. I went to Christ hospital they said I had Os peroneum syndrome. The doctor at Christ performed surgery and I’ve been pain free for over a year now. I feel like doctor Gates heard the pain started in my sleep and made his mind up that it was plantar fasciitis and wouldn’t look anymore into my problem. He also wrote in his report that I had cramping in my arch which I never had only had tightness from swelling. Maybe he’s great for obvious problems but not so much for complicated issues. Dealing with CincyOrtho caused me a lot of unnecessary pain unpaid time off work not to mention how much they made off me for basically being told to keep walking on a foot I couldn’t even put pressure on. Staff was courteous, doctor was knowledgeable and quick with an accurate diagnosis. Appointment felt rushed though, probably because it was the last of the day. Schedule early to get more time for questions, clarifications.
