I was diagnosed with CML over 4 yrs ago. Standard of care was 100mg of sprycel. Prior to Dr. Shah , I had another oncologist/hematologist who wouldn't even consider lowering me medication and I saw another one who said if I attempted changing my med I was signing a death warrant. When I went to my first appt with Dr. Shah he spend over 45 min with me and truly listened to me. Dr. Shah is very open minded, extremely educated and truly cares about his patients. He tried taking me off my medication since I had a complete molecular remission for over 2 yrs and when it failed put me on half my dosage which is working. Now this approach may not be or work for everyone. He has also always responded to my many question and concerns through the message center for UCSF within a day, even on the weekends.
