Nancy Ruth Otto

Nancy Otto is a great hand surgeon. I have had two minor procedures and have referred friends who needed, respectively. partial amputation of a finger after a dog bite and carpel tunnel surgery. Both were very pleased. I hear she is also a terrific pianist.

Not the best experienced I've had with a doctor or staff. She's very quick to get you in and out of the office. After my wrist surgery (PRC) she dissuaded me from going to physical therapy. That was a mistake. Instead of taking maybe a year to get over the surgery it literally took over 2 years. I went to another doctor for a second opinion. That staff requested that I bring my x-rays from before and after the procedure. I filled out a form so that I could personally get the documents on a disc. They never got back to me like they said they would. I filed for Social Security Disability. Out of all the doctor's offices hers was the only one that didn't send in documentation to the Social Security office. Believe me, you can do a lot better than her. Dr. Nancy Otto is rude, and doesn't treat patients equally.

Very unprofessional front office staff. Dr. Otto herself is fine, but nothing she could do makes up for the unpleasant experience you must endure with her front office staff. I've called them, been assured of a follow up call, and been let down. I spoke with Jeremy earlier today about scheduling an appointment. What a horrible experience talking with him. Second time talking with him. Like talking with a bag of salt... Again, I think this Dr herself is fine, or even better than fine at what she does, but I can't recommend this Dr office to anyone. I originally had an open compound fracture of my left wrist which was repaired bythe orthopedic surgeon on call. Unfortunately, the plate he used failed so he removed ti during a second surgery. Dr. Otto is great! She is direct and to the point she values what you have to say. She is the best at what she does. I have had multiple surgeries done by Dr. Otto with great results. I will not go anywhere else for hand and arm issues.

Dr. Otto was amazing during my surgery of Bilateral Carpel Tunnel. I am so pleased! My overall experience was positive and caring. I would recommend her to my family and friends....hands down (forgive the pun) she rocks!

The rudest most judgmental doctor I have ever come across. My husband needed a plate installed in his hand and when we told her he was in pain she said that the pain pills were not there for him to “party” with. The nerve of this woman!! Do not waste your time with this horrible human being!!!

They tried to charge me more for my copay. I paid what my Ins Card said. Then they made me wait 2 1/2 Hrs to see Dr Otto & it was freezing cold! I just needed a shot for a trigger thumb so I left. Never again. It’s obvious they are more interested in carpal tunnel procedures or surgeries????????

My husband had 2 surgeries with Dr Otto. He had one of the worst cases of carpal tunnel and trigger finger she’d ever seen. The results of both surgeries are amazing. The staff and follow up care was so professional. We’ve referred Dr Otto to all our friends. I do not recommend Dr. Otto anymore to anyone. She botched up my wrist surgery where my capitate dislocated twice and she did not tell me it was dislocated once again at my last follow up appointment. I also asked repeatedly about rehab and she only responded "move your fingers". She is always too much in a rush to answer more than one question. It is a real shame because she had treated me previously in 2010 and I was pleased with that surgery. My new surgeon fixed what she did not and I am no longer in pain.

I already get anxious when wearing a mask (I’m fully vaccinated) but I didn’t realize all the doors would be open even during my exam and I felt like there was little privacy in this office. Can’t say much about Dr. Otto. She didn’t say much to me or even introduced herself but did a very quick exam of my hand and moved on.

It was a terrible office experience. Dr. Otto walked in evaluated me for about 3min and scheduled the surgery. She doesn't take her time with you. I know time is money but I need a doctor that cares about the patient not just about the money she will make in surgery. Her assistant Ricky also treated me very poorly. He was rude and i complained to the office mgr which i was promised a call back and that never came through. Its obvious they just dont care about the patient. Bottom line is dont ask questions and just get in line for surgery. No thank you. There are plenty other doctors that I'm sure will treat their patients with respect. Beware of this medical practice and their doctors. I received over $1800 in bogus medical bills 2 months after my surgery. My procedure should have been totally paid for by my insurance because I had already met my deductible but my insurance company denied this $1800 claim from Dr Nancy Otto. It was denied because Dr Otto (or her agents acting on her behalf) chose to use a provider of my arm brace that wasn’t in-network WITHOUT my prior authorization. I’m pretty sure they made this decision while I was knocked out under anestesia. I called and Donna Marie acknowledged it was wrong and they would do something with MedexPSI to have the charges removed. That was about 3 months ago. Now I am getting calls from a collection agency. Donna Marie has repeatedly avoided many of my phone calls and ignored several emails sent to her. This practice should be ashamed of themselves and shut down for their utter lack of care and service to their patients. Beware of this medical practice and their doctors. I would never go back again.. Should I say more? She has a very weird attitude and rudeness . Maybe she was having an 'off day'but I doubt it. ????

The absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with a doctor. Went in to see about pain and swelling in my hand but ended up being chastised about my weight the entire 5 minutes she spent in the room. She walked into the room, didn’t introduce herself, or seem want to know any prior history on my hand. Left the door open as she continually called me overweight and then walked out when she was done with her “talk”. I will never step foot in her office again.

Excellent doctor and surgeon. She has operated on my husband for carpal tunnel syndrome and trigger finger and performed radial head replacement surgery on me recently. She is the best surgeon in San Antonio and our recoveries were both made easier because of her expertise. She will be doing trigger finger surgery on me very soon and I wouldn’t trust anybody else to operate. If she is not doing your orthopedic surgery, you simply don’t have the best doctor available. Four years ago I went to Dr Otto for three trigger fingers that needed to be released. I was uncomfortable having general anaesthesia due to a stroke I had suffered after surgery a few years before. Dr Otto performed my surgery with local anaesthesia and I had no pain during the surgery. I healed beautifully and it would be difficult for anyone to see the scar in my hand. No complications at all! This year in April 2019 I needed to have carpal tunnel surgery on both my hands. Of course Dr Otto,was the first person I thought of. I had some trepidation at having both hands done at the same time, but I must say it went amazingly well. I can finally feel my fingers again and I am not waking up at night in severe pain. Once again Dr Otto performed my surgery with local anaesthesia and quickly repaired my hands and had me on my way. If you are looking for a hand surgeon I can highly recommend seeing Dr Otto. She does a fantastic job in a minimum amount of time and has you back to living your life without the pain you were suffering with before the surgery. Dr. Otto operated on my late wife following a fall in January 5, 2017 in which she fractured all bones in her left wrist. Dr. Otto was amazing. She operated that evening at San Antonio's NE Baptist Hospital inserting what appears to be in excess of 14 pins. Within weeks my wife again had use of her hand. Superb work.

I had LRTI surgery on 1/24/19 for basal joint Arthritis. I highly recommend her. Total recovery takes a while, but it’s very do-able. The procedure is nothing to worry about. I’m right-handed, and the surgery was on my right hand. I was on my computer in two(2) days and driving in a week.

Excellent and very knowledgeable.

She is the only hand surgeon in town who can repair extreme cases and she is the only surgeon I would ever allow to touch any bone in my body. She does elbow surgery and repaired my elbow 2 months ago. I am doing so well I only needed 2 weeks of PT. She did carpal tunnel surgery and trigger thumb release on my husband and he was never in pain after the surgery. He has full use of the hand. I am having trigger finger release surgery this Friday and wouldn’t have any other doctor do it.

I have to agree with previous reviews with uncaring, and unprofessional. Saw her twice for Basal joint Osteoarthritis. She cancelled second appointment at drop of the hat for 5th of July taking a longer Holiday after I came back a day early!! Then I waited 90 minutes to see her for her to only give me a painful exam, which left me hurting for days now. She wanted to give me ANTI-SEIZURE Medicine for my thumb, CRAZY!! She said well that’s what Americans want. I walked out never going back!!

Waited in exam room for 30 minutes. Doctors spent a total of 8 minutes in the exam only to tell me I need to put less pressure on my thumb,gave me a brace and a nutrition chart

Dr. Otto has left me in serious pain after she operated my right and left hands!!! I strongly suggest for nobody go to her to get surgery for carpal tunnel!! My whole arm, neck, and hand pain are making my life worst than before!!!

Dr Otto is the greatest. I had four fingers with trigger finger and I no longer have pain. I highly recommend Dr Otto.

Broke my elbow into 10 pieces. Two surgeons wouldn't touch it. Dr. Otto repaired it with two plate and 5 screws. Recovery is going well. Dr. Otto is very professional, but down to business (as she's one of the few surgeons who can take the extreme cases). If your looking for warm and fuzzy...get a puppy. But I wouldn't let it perform surgery on you. Call Otto when you need the very best.

Dr Otto repaired my injured right elbow in 2002 and my left hand in 2008. Her skill as a surgeon is exceptional. Her caring approach to surgery and healing hastened my recovery each time. I have recently found myself needing additional medical help with my right hand. My first thought was of Dr. Otto. I trust her surgical skill, her judgement and the recovery plan she will implement.

This was my first visit with Dr. Otto. I went to her complaining of pain in my thumb. She did not greet nor introduce herself to me or my husband when she came into the exam room, nor did she close the door. She proceeded to chastise me loudly for several minutes for not being able to remove my wedding ring for the xray (we tried). When I told her to please address the pain in my thumb (no pain in my ring finger), she kept going on about the wedding ring. She was very unprofessional.

Dr Otto was great at explaining to me what was wrong with my hand and fixing the issue right there in her office.

Dr. Otto operated on my husband for a distal bicep tear. She's very good - kept us informed of the process the entire time and did a wonderful job. Very no-nonsense which I love in a doctor.

Have see no Dr Otto when needed for simple to surgeries. She and her office are the best! She shoots straight - no maybe's. I have and will continue to recommend her for orthodox needs.

Dr.Otto saved my hand!!!.... My dominant hand to be exact... I had surgery in November 2016 and I am at maybe 50 or 60% use and it's going to take a year to completely heal. As a IT Professional the use of my hands are vital to my survival... Thank you sooooooooooooooooo much Dr. Otto!!!!

Dr. Otto, besides being brilliant, is so compassionate, gentle, caring, and has a wonderful sense of humor. She rebuilt my entire Right hand after another "hand" surgeon damaged it. She was on top of everything. She is the best of the best.

Waited 1 hour and 40 minutes past the appointment time. Once she finally got in the exam room - she did not even introduce herself or ask any questions. She immediately started stating symptoms - which were wrong. Spent exactly 3 minutes in the room and asked 3 questions - miraculously diagnosed with no tests only to transfer to a neurologist. Once she realized there would be no surgery - they couldn't get me out of there fast enough. Everything that is wrong with healthcare today.

I had De Quervain's tenosynovitis which had also caused issues for the the carpal tunnel neve on the left wrist and hand. Dr. Otto diagnosed the problem operated on my wrist/hand fixing it. I rate her highly, though admit she would rate ME as a most lousy patient, embarrassingly low threshold for needles and cutting! She seems a most excellent surgeon AND long-suffering with fellows such as I. I would call upon her for any such physical setbacks in the future (hopefully never, of course!)

My experience was great. I had an accident and was referred to her by the ER doctor. I was able to get an appointment within 24hrs and the procedure was scheduled for the following Monday.
