Dr. Nabil Antoine Barakat

I think Dr. Barakat is top notch hand surgeon. I had two carpal tunnel procedures done by him. In both, I had very minor pain for a day. His work is so good that only a very experienced doctor can find the scars in my hands. I have had NO recurrences after several years.

I've been going to Dr. Barakat for over a year. I've endured 2 hand surgeries with him and 1 previously. I was told by a couple of other doctors that my hand would not improve and that it was going to be permanently injured. Dr. Barakat did not except this diagnosis. He stayed positive even when it was hard for me to be optimistic. After my second surgery with him and months of therapy, my hand is now usable and working well. He did what other doctors refused and did it with a ton of positivity. He is one of the best hand surgeons in the midwest. I've been going to Dr. Barakat for over a year. Quite possibly the WORST specialist I have ever seen. My visit was less than 5 mins, wanted to send me to occupational therapy, which was fine, but I had just spent two full weeks of physical therapy with no results. When I mentioned an MRI, he took it personally, and told me to "get a second opinion, I don't care". Which is also fine. But when I asked him for my paperwork, he brought a member of the Concentra clinic staff in, continued to ask me if I "had any more questions", my answer was "can you finish my paperwork so I can leave?" he said "Don't tell me what to do", so I said ok, I'll just leave, you can do whatever you want with the paperwork. When I tried to leave, his staff member blocked the door and wouldn't move until asked. See literally ANY other doctor. Quite possibly the WORST specialist I have ever seen. When I went in after getting an EKG of my hand in the very beginning, I asked what the specialist found in his evaluation and Dr. Nabil Barakat just ignored me and never explained what was in that report. I tell him what I’m feeling and what can be done to stop the hot burning sensation in the center of my palm and my ring finger locking up and he doesn’t have an answer. The 1st 2 appointments steroids was administered it eased the pain somewhat but the condition is still the same. On my 3rd appt I asked him what can be done my finger still hurts and locking up he replied I’m not trying to say your bullsh@*ting but at sometime he has to lift my restrictions. This happened on 11/18/2020. Keep in mind had a Cat scan, from there a different Dr. decided on a EKG then the hand specialist Dr. Barakat. Releasing me to work with the situation being the same. He simply doesn’t care. His service doesn’t last longer than 5 mins.

I wish I could give less than a one star review. This doctor was unprofessional, rude, and is a liability to his patients. I went here to have an x-ray reviewed after I had broken my finger. I called his office the day before and made sure that the x-ray had been sent over and they verified that they had received it. The day of appointment, the doctor said that they had not received the x-ray and would not check to make sure, saying that it wasn't on my chart so they didn't have it. This did not stop him from telling me that I needed to have extensive physical therapy because he said my finger might not work if I didn't. That ended up being completely untrue and maybe if he had looked at my x-ray or had known what finger was broken (he kept looking at my other hand and I to tell him multiple times that he was looking at the wrong finger). Overall a horrible experience!

Let's face everyone gets different experiences. In my case I had bad experience staff is poorly trained every visit all I got asked is how you feeling that's only Question they ask after that you tell them any thing they dont note down anything about your emotions or trouble you facing while coming out of surgery or Any other problems that we might dealing with after surgery. It will take Dr only 1 to 5 minutes finishing meeting with you. He is always in rush. If you are his Patients Best Of Luck if you are new patients consider this review. Dr barakat, occupational therapy and office was great experience , very accommodating to all my needs with warm heart and caring hands. Very nice office , everybody friendly and helpful . Fun environment with positive outcome . Highly recommend treatment there.. At Dr. Barakat’s office I was asked to fill out a detailed account of my injuries and past medical history. Dr. Barakat was patient and clearly explained to me what he would to do after examining my 4th finger injury that was near a joint. I had a cut over a joint and I know as a doctor myself these are difficult plastic surgery injuries to fix. The surgery went well with excellent results. No one can tell 8 months later I had surgery. When I fell and broke my 5th metacarpal bone Dr.Barakat and I both knew that since it was a spiral fracture I would need surgery. He again explained the details of the operation and how the extent of surgery would vary depending on the extent of the fracture. My outcome was again very good, with minimal scarring. His post op therapy regimen and encouraging, accommodating staff of occupational therapists ensured that I regained full function of my hand. I will recommend Dr. Barakat and his OT therapy group if any family or friends needs an experienced hand surgeon. Doctors and therapists were very helpful emotionally and physically throughout the recovery process

I took my 5-year old daughter to Dr. Barakat the morning after she broke her finger. I was able to get an appointment right away and the staff has been nothing but kind, accommodating and engaging with my daughter. Dr. Barakat has a wonderful personality and made my very nervous daughter feel comfortable. He was certainly conservative with his recommendations and didn't push us to do one thing over another. He was attentive, and didn't spend any more time than was necessary. My daughter even said she wanted to be a "hand doctor" after leaving his office! Would definitely recommend this entire office. DO NOT SEE THIS DOCTOR. If I could give him zero stars I would. Most terrible experience I've ever had with anyone in the medical field. Very blatantly only wanted to sell a surgery. Determined I needed surgery after 10 seconds of examination. When I expressed concern due to blood thinning medication I am on, he proceeded to say "I don't care" and "do whatever you want to do" about 10 times in our five minutes conversation. Why would a doctor tell me "I don't care, it's not my money and it's not my time. Do whatever you want to do."? When I asked what other options do I have, he said "therapy is a waste of time". Told me to "Go see another doctor, do nothing, come back in four weeks to follow up with me, whatever you want. Four weeks, two weeks, I don't care. If you want injection I don't care." Terrible. Made an appointment because my middle knuckle on hand was popping and sore. Kept my hand in a closed position. He looked at my hand for about 3 seconds. Kind of smirked and didn’t ask any questions. The whole visit took about 2 mins. He never asked my family history or any questions and he sent me a 320 bill. Never called with results. I had to call and talk to an office person who could not answer my questions on what to do about this. Overall he was the worst. Went to DuPage Medical and they spent a lot of time with me. This Dr. can have all the 5 stars here, to me one star is too much for him! He showed no sympathy or empathy as a Dr should in this first and last appointment. Thankfully I don't need him and feel sorry for those who do, he was just a 2nd opinion for my case to be put away by insurance.. he didn't know me as a patient, if I was suicidal, he would have pushed me over the edge. He took one look at the paperwork and decided my pains are not real. FYI Dr I didn't need u for a day off or anything

I do not believe you will ever find a more kind, sensitive, and professional surgeon as Dr. BARAKAT. His staff are wonderful.

I had carpal surgery. Took only a few minutes. The numbness is no longer there. After surgery the only pain I had, if any, could be dealt by aspirin. There is no discernible scar tissue. More importantly, I think, he is an excellent and very qualified M.D.

treble bed side matter, i feel if its don't require surgery he isn't interested in treating you or your injury treated me from day one like i am a idiot. wont give you test that are need to treat you,when they are suggested by IME dr. through workers comp. overall making me feel like i did something wrong when i need treatment of a 5th metacarpal fracture and possible CRPS.
