Dr. Michael Scott Downey

Dr Downey was a consummate professional, seeking every option for healing me. He recommended that I NOT have surgery as my healing progressed, an unusual and welcome recommendation. I am now fully healed under his care. Recommend highly.

Dr. Downey came recommended by my local podiatrist, I was hesitant at first because it’s a two hour drive but....... Dr. Downey is simply put amazing. Have had two surgeries in the last 2 months and every single step of the way has been easy and fluid. Dr Downey takes the time to explain exactly what is going on, takes the time to answer any and all questions you may have and overall had me as a patient feeling totally comfortable and at ease! Penn is a teaching hospital and every resident or student I had exemplified all the great character traits and total professionalism as Doctor Downey himself! I simply cannot say enough great things about my experience with Dr Downey, His AMAZING Residents, the workers in front and the UPenn health systems as a whole!!! Thank you so much!!! Have had two surgeries in the last 2 months and every single step of the way has been easy and fluid. Dr. Downey is very reachable and approachable. I feel very comfortable dealing with his practice.

I really liked Dr Downey. However I cancelled my surgery due to a lack of response and detail from his scheduling staff.

Unbelievable and very disturbing. Doctor is the only one who said he sees a tumor in my ankle. No other doctor has seen it. The two procedures he recommends are very invasive. When I called to schedule surgery, which he said must be done immediately, the scheduling person was taking a call off site. She told me to call and leave a voicemail message and she would not pick up. Weeks went by, when I called again. This time, she got a pen and wrote down my questions for the doctor(questions I got from my second opinion doctor) Again, no call back until last night...two more weeks later, and the message was to make another office appointment to ask the doctor my questions This will be the third office appointment. I told the office manager that I live about 2 hours away and I need a driver to take me. I asked if the doctor could just take a couple of minutes to call me and discuss this surgery and my concerns? The reply was no, you must come in. The doctor is busy. I guess his 5 minutes to talk to his patient is more valuable that my 4 hour ride(to and from) his office. They are ONLY here to make money... schedule lots of surgery and appointments and move to the next patient. So sad that there is no care or concern for people. . Unbelievable and very disturbing. Dr. Downey was a life saver! He is an incredible doctor and surgeon! I had broken two bones in my foot (metatarsal) when a heavy door dropped on my foot at work. My foot never healed properly and I can't even begin to describe the pain!! I went through two surgeries in Florida (one they re-broke a bone) After almost 18 months of pain I was told about a great foot doctor in Philadelphia that my boss went too several years ago when he had a severe infection in his foot. THANK GOD I FOUND HIM! Dr. Downey was so caring and knowledgeable. He is also a top surgeon! Dr. Downey fixed my foot and today I have NO PAIN/ Not even after a long day on my feet. I highly recommend using Dr. Downey!

He is very competent, kind and always takes the time to review dozens of X-rays, MRIs and CT Scans without making any patient feel like they are taking too much of his time.

Dr. Downey is the podiatrist you need when no one else can figure out your foot and ankle medical issues. He takes as much time as each patient needs to ensure a thorough exam and evaluation. He never does his medical records in front of a patient so you know you have his full attention. There's a r a don why patients say "You'll go in limping and come out dancing!"

Dr Downey has been wonderful. Unfortunately , the office at 38th and market is chaotic. Wait times of 2 hours. Misplaced paperwork. No one seems to know what's going on.

I would NOT recommend Dr. Downey. I drove one and a half hours each way to see Dr. Downey as he was referred to me by my local podiatrist. He made recommendations and I have tried to follow up with him via his office staff but no matter how many times I have called his office (15 times) to date I have not received a call back. I have left numerous messages requesting a copy of my medical records but have not received any response from this office. Total neglect of a patient needing care!

He's the best!! I had a Bunion done by Dr. Downey. I expected to have so much pain, but, I was shocked! I was not in bad pain and I was in sneakers in about two 1/2 weeks and back to work. Not that I missed work ?? I'm going back to him for my other bunion soon. Can't say enough about the Doc! If you want a great doctor, go to this one, I can't even see a scar!!
