Initially Dr. Novak seemed competent and proactive in managing my traumatic brain injury treatment. Unfortunately that changed quickly. By the second appointment she decided she didn't want to bother with my complicated case, dropped me as a patient saying I had no TBI and wrote off my dementia, memory loss, headaches and all my other TBI issues as "pregnancy symptoms". I felt ignored and discriminated against by this provider.

Dr. Novak had already decided before she even talked to me that I didn't need surgery. I understand that it is a doctor's job to have an opinion, but she never even touched my knee or did any imaging before she formed this opinion and dismissed my concerns. I went to another provider who actually did an MRI and found the cartilage damage in the knee.

I went to another provider who did bother to do an MRI, and therefore found the damaged cartilage.

Dr. Melissa Novak was hands down the best medical provider that I have ever had the chance to interact with! There are not enough good things that I can say about her. She is EXTREMELY knowledgeable, professional, friendly, caring, intelligent but not condescending, motivating, and finally just an all around, genuine human being. My positive experience with OHSU was directly impacted by my interaction with her and I will most definitely be recommending her and OHSU to everyone.

She was always late and spent a great deal of time talking about her cat and her shoes. She dismissed my symptoms and told me to lose weight when I had a very serious disease with a prognosis of a liver transplant. She misdiagnosed me and did not pay attention to my progressive illness. I could have died in her care. So glad I found a new doctor who cares.
