I got there after an hour and a half drive and waiting several months to get in. I was told by his PA who by the way was very sweet and helpful, that he’d reviewed my chart from my GP and that he could not help me. If that was the case he could’ve told me that over the phone without charging me an arm snd a leg. When he came in he again read me chart notes, didn’t look at me didn’t touch me, told me he couldn’t help me and walked out. It took 5 minutes. I couldn’t understand his dialect and he was very abrupt. It was not worth the time or the money to be embarrassed.

This was a follow-up visit. Dr. Kwaku has been managing my thyroid for a number of years and I could not be happier with him. After I had to have my thyroid removed, he was able to get my levels back within normal range and has kept them there. He explains everything clearly and is wonderful to deal with.

He came in the room being rude and condescending. He was gripping about a holiday doesn't mean not coming back. I told him I had called and asked if I needed a bone density and to see him after my last treatment for osteoporosis. I was told by staff I didn't need a new bone density so no need to see him. He told me I dont believe it. He wouldn't listen to me. He came back in the room with a bunch of paperwork where I did call in,as well as my PCP has been monitoring my condition. He never apologized just a bunch of back tracking of what he said to me. I thought about walking out of the office when he left the room to get paperwork but I didn't. I have never had a doctor be so rude and condescending. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. In fact I would warn them not to subject themselves to this kind of unnecessary treatment of a patient. So unprofessional. He has many reviews saying he is rude and unprofessional. He should not even be allowed to practice medicine.

Knows his stuff. Answers any and all questions in a way you will understand. Explains the testing process, the results, what they mean, how they affect you. A tiny bit fast paced for older folks, but you can still get the gist of everything.

I just left from having this doctor stick needles in my thyroid for a biopsy literally two hours ago. I wanted to hurry up and leave a great review for this doctor and his staff because they deserve it. He was comfortable to talk to during my visit, he asked questions and listened to everything I had to say. He and his staff are very clean and professional, and the staff joked around which to me is very comforting. I arrived at 8:40 for a 9 o’clock biopsy appointment and I was literally pulling out if the parking lot at 9:45 and in no pain whatsoever. Again he and his staff made it so easy , comfortable and painless. When he walked out he came over patted me on the leg and said “have a great weekend and call if you need us.” Why am I telling you this, because at the office visit he did the same thing , patted me on the back and said “great to meet you.” You wouldn’t pat someone on the back unless you care, he cares, thank you Dr. Kwaku !!!!

I use a freestyle glucose sensor and he poured through all my data points and entries and really gave me some good instructions. Very knowledgeable of diabetes and all other associated conditions that arrive with it. On a personal note I like doctors that are more straight to the point and cut through your excuses and he does that very well.

Dr. Kwaku has been my doctor for many years. He has taken care of my thyroid problems along with many blood test for my whole system. He knows my inside like a book. He's very up front and knows what's best for me. He is my daughter's doctor also and she thinks just as highly of him as I do.

Terrible bedside manner. He treated my father when in the hospital and was hateful and not helpful, basically saying he was stupid, although he had lived with diabetes for over 40 years which was a miracle in itself. I wouldn't let him treat my dog. He is hateful and very condescending.

He is a very good doctor but his office will s impossible to call and get an answer. On hold for 20-30 minutes and multiple times I have been hung up on. Messages to nursing staff are not relayed properly. Make appointments without even speaking with you to confirm. I would leave the practice due to this and not him personally.

He has a bad bedside manner. Today during my husband's appointment he told my husband that he doesn't believe the numbers written down for his A1 C. Kwaku said he's making them up. The nurse claimed Kwaku was having a bad day today however every time we visit he maintains the same attitude.

Sadly I could not give less stars. I have never had a professional be so UNprofessional towards me in my life. I typically do not feel the need to speak up and give reviews and especially when it comes to negative reviews as I would like to build others up, but I feel I NEED TO WARN others! I would highly recommend that others do NOT SEEK medical or professional help from Dr. Kwaku. I promise there are other more caring and respectable doctors in the ETX area. The level of bedside manner will have you leaving feeling worse about yourself as if a father just told you he was dissatisfied in your work. Dr. Kuwaku I believe once was a different doctor who took his time and looked over treatment plans, but now he is over worked and does not care to listen to his patients. I feel I can say this because I have been with this doctor for nearly 10 years off and on as I have moved. I used to enjoy seeing his nurse Ms. Hazel and she now unfortunately is just as cold as Dr. Kuwaku. If you have ever heard of the term “burnout” then you will understand the atmosphere I am describing. It’s truly sad to see “professionals” not acting ethically. Sadly I could not give less stars. I appreciate Dr. Kwaku. I hand picked him when I moved to Texas in 2009 and have stayed with him ever since. He isn't a beat around the bush type of doctor. It is what it is. He shoots it to you straight and if you can't handle the truth - and need to be coddled and babied - he isn't the guy for you. Being in the medical field myself I understand his position and know he is right more often than not. Can he have a little gentler bedside manner? Sure. But clearly that is not his personality. He is incredibly intelligent and he always knows the latest and greatest breakthrough drugs on the market for diabetics. That is why I come to him. Because he is an excellent doctor. Dr. Kuwaku in my opinion has turned into a rude and narcissistic doctor who is too busy to listen to patient needs. Hands down, this past year of seeing him has been some of my personal worst experiences with a doctor-he did not used to be so unprofessional, but things have gone down hill. In my experience today during what should have been a five minute conversation; I was told I was a liar, he gave me the wrong medication, would not listen to my concerns, or help me to solve the issue with my pharmacy. Instead, I was told in an extremely rude and annoyed tone how many times I had called his office... (as if I did not have work and better things to do myself.) I am unsure if it is a cultural barrier or plain and simple lack of knowledge of basic human interactions and being kind, but I would never recommend him to a friend or family. What I would recommend is that he seek some self care and continued education!

I was referred here by a neurologist. He has a horrible attitude and told me the two tumors in my brain (pituitary and pineal) were too small to be significant and that my thyroid issue was caused by taking biotin and birth control pills (which I was no longer taking). He referred to my neurologist as "neurotic" and said all women are that way. He asked me why I was there wasting his time. Very bad experience with this doctor and clinic. Also his charge nurse Hazel. My in-home nurse that calls me from HUMANA along with another nurse from HUMANA contacted the doctors office wanting to speak to them about adding another medication to help get my blood sugars under control. No one ever responded to them and when I had a prescription with no refills I have waited sometimes for over two weeks getting my prescription filled from the lack of response time from the charge nurse Hazel. Walmart continuously faxing over the prescription with no response. And they confirmed it with me showing me how many times that they had faxed over the request, sometimes up to four attempts. There is other issues that occurred over a period of a couple of years and I will say that both the Dr. Kwaku and the charge nurse Hazel have very bad attitudes.Totally unprofessional. I did asked to speak to someone in charge at the clinic on my last visit 9-11-19 and was told that the supervisor was in meetings all day and that I could address my issues with Dr. Kawiku when the issues were against Dr. Kawiku and the charge nurse Hazel. 1st visit was good, he was very courteous and knowledgeable. Second visit he told me I could continue the diabetes meds, but I would have to be ready to take insulin the next time I saw him. (Diabetes was a new diagnosis for me). When I came back (almost a year later) his first words to me were (gruffly) "Why are you back? You haven't been here for a year?" I was shocked, told him that I realized the meds weren't strong enough (small dosages) and that I wanted to see if insulin is my only choice, or if there was anything else I could try first. He actually raised his voice to me, said "I told you about all your options before, why are you asking again?" Wow! I have never been treated so rudely and I was shocked. He gave me another prescription to try and then he dismissed me. On my next visit he started me on insulin - which was a very hard decision for me, but I was willing. When I asked about anything I might need to know about how to take it or any possible complications to watch for, he actually HUFFED at me, walked out of the room, and came back in with a simple "how to" paper. I was in tears by this point, which is SO NOT like me. He actually showed me my patient chart to emphasize that I have tried all medications and had to do insulin now. I told him that I understood and that was why I was at the appointment. Then I saw that he had written IN MY CHART that I was emotionally unstable and HAD TO bring my Mom with me on the last visit!! Sad part is - he didn't stop barking at me long enough on the last visit to find out that she had came with me to the appointment to see about HER becoming his patient (because I'd told her he was so nice and knowledgeable on that first visit). She didn't get to see "that" Doctor ... She was shocked at his behavior... and certainly didn’t want him as her Dr. Needless to say, I had reservations about seeing him again. I had to legitimately reschedule my next appointment... But then his office randomly selected a time that was in conflict with my schedule. So I rescheduled again... Same thing. This time I planned on making the appointment anyways but became ill. I called to cancel and, before I could reschedule, I received a certified letter from him staying I had rescheduled too many times and he could no longer be my doctor. Good riddance. Some doctors personalities should stay in research, not in a field where human interaction is needed. 1st visit was good, he was very courteous and knowledgeable. Second visit he told me I could continue the diabetes meds, but I would have to be ready to take insulin the next time I saw him. (Diabetes was a new diagnosis for me). When I … More

I give this individual one star ONLY for the reason that I cannot give him ZERO. He is not patient at all, he is always rushing the patient through the consultation, he constantly interrupts you without even caring about what you have to say. He is always right and patient is always wrong, we is rude and turns his back on you and leave you talking. Being a patient of him due to thyroid cancer he denied last year to give me the flu shot because I am not one of his patients with diabetes. I went to Dr Kwaku after I refused to go back to Dr at Christus MF. Dr there took little time with me and gave me instructions to take same fixed amount of insulin three times each day! As a result, I overdosed five times in two years, and came close to dying. One time, when Paramedics got there, I was at 20, another 40, another at about 40. Only my wife saved me! Dr. leaky took a lot of time with me, and gave me a sliding scale for injections. He also changed my long acting injection to AM, not PM. I had an immediate, dramatic improvement in my blood sugar level. Cut it in half. Previously no one had told me when or how to take the injections. Dr Kwaku was a little difficult to understand with heavy accent, but I really liked him. He is an excellent Dr.

I would never recommend Maxwell Kwaku to anyone! Don’t ever go because he won’t allow you to go anywhere else once you are his patient. He is rude, disrespectful and literally verbally attacked me on my last office visit. I felt like crying but would not give him the satisfaction of seeing me cry. I attempted to switch doctors to the other doctor in the office but was told that him and her would have to talk. It is 6 months later I have not heard a word from his office or hers. Fortunately my insurance changed allowing me to go to Christus doctors. When I called his office for a referral to a Christus Endocrinologist he refused to send a referral. He forwarded my records but said since he was a specialist he could not refer to another specialist. Which is a lie!! It’s all about control and he wants all control. Fortunately I found out I did not need a referral! Thank the Lord I am done with him!! I am a healthcare provider. If I treated my patients like he does I would be fired!

I have seen this doctor for several years now. He’s truly a blessing to have as my endocrinologist. He’s very knowledgeable and does actually care about his patients. Dr. Kwaku is very direct and doesn’t sugarcoat anything. Some would consider this rude but I prefer directness. He isn’t rude but may come off this way to some. I have missed appointments and he understood after asking what happened and telling me how important it is for my health to keep my appointments (yes he did this in a direct manner). He’s the only endocrinologist that has been able to stabilize my TSH levels, as I have an absorption problem. I definitely would recommend him to my friends and family but I would also let them know about his directness. I also let them know of his thick accent as he’s not from the USA So many doctors are “too nice” but this doctor cuts out the bull snot and is straight forward, is direct, honest, and is super intelligent. Some people can’t handle hearing the truth or take responsibility for their own actions and like to make excuses. (He will be direct about these things as you and him work together to find the right direction needed for your health) He definitely isn’t for those that are soft shelled or for the faint at heart or for those that are easily offended. When reading the reviews for this doctor I was shocked as this is not the doctor I know at all. I can see how some see him as rude (again he is very direct and honest). Hopefully this review is helpful. Bottom line he’s a wonderful doctor and I would recommend him to my friends and family. I have seen this doctor for several years now. Took plenty of time and answered all my questions. I found that he is very intelligent and expects his patient to be a thinking and active participant in their own health management. I find the approach refreshing and appreciate being treated accordingly. I received information never shared by my previous providers and feel empowered. This Dr has a God complex. My Dr sent me to him for a second opinion on 2 small growths I had on my thyroid. The first visit he was a jerk and said it was so small that it was not worth messing with. Terrible experience! He was very dismissive and actually laughed at me then laughed at my neurologist for sending me there. I have a pituitary tumor and was told I was overreacting and that it was "nothing" despite my thyroid levels being off, tremors, dry skin, tachycardia, palpitations, etc. Two other doctors have told me my symptoms directly relate to my thyroid. He wouldn't listen to me, kept laughing then told me he was testing me for Cushings but not to come back for 3 months.

On my second visit he would not discuss any of my problems just whatever he wanted (for those 3 mins) then he was on the phone with me sitting there and shooing me to the room to get my blood drawn. Nurses are amazing but him not so much. I'm also having more and more complications with this medicine and he's telling me to continue them.
