Dr. Buchanan is always pleasant and empathetic. He is extremely knowledgeable about feet and ankle issues. He's also very practical and is not "knife happy".

I saw Dr. Buchanan for end stage arthritis in my big toe. Dr. Buchanan was outstanding. After a thorough discussion he addressed all of my concerns and provided me detailed information on the surgical procedure. He took time to explain in detail the surgical options, the recovery time and the future impacts on my mobility and then took considerable additional time to make sure it was clear to me and that I understood all the issues. I felt very comfortable with his explanation and expertise to perform the complex surgery to solve my particular problem.

Dr Buchanan was so helpful in both identifying the root cause of my issue (which had eluded a prior doctor) and in providing specific next steps that had immediate positive impact. He also did a great job of explaining the “why” of what was going on with the foot and how to fix it so I understood how everything fit together. Finally, he out everything writing so it was easy to reference later.

Dr. Buchanan performed a bunionectomy, April 2022. I had many questions before and after the surgery. He answered each question to my satisfaction as well as provided examples and options. I chose him due to his experience in this type of procedure. He has not let me down. I am further along in my recovery than I ever imagined. His explanations of the procedure and recovery process including what I needed to do before and after were extremely helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Buchanan.

I am now 1 year post op total Right Ankle Replacement performed by Dr. Matthew Buchanan. I still can't believe how life changing this surgery has been. To finally be pain free! My range of motion is better than before surgery. Would I do it over again..absolutely. Dr Buchanan has been nothing but incredible. His competence as well as his bedside manner by far has been the best I've ever encountered. ( I am a nurse over 40 years) Time to enjoy retirement!!!

Dr. Buchanan has provided a service of a Total Ankle Replacement surgery allowing me to live a life pain-free. Having lived in agony due to injuries sustained in a roadside accident I considered my constant ankle pain was something I was going to have to live with. As a 53 year old with a seven year old I was relegated to watching my wife teach my son to ride his bike after being in war with Naval Special Warfare. Dr. Buchanan's surgical skills, combined with phenomal advances in ankle replacement procedures, allow me to have a life again.

Dr Buchanan and his entire team are top notch. He is listens and thoughtfully responds to all questions and concerns. He is always on time and never makes you feel rushed. My surgery experience and recovery were just what he said they would be.

Checking in was great service. Dr. Buchanan was wonderful he showed he cared and wanted to help me feel better. He explain everything and did not rush me. He is very knowledgeable.

This appt. was a pre-op appt. for bunion surgery. Dr. Buchana6reviewed the procedure and post-op expectations very clearly. He spent time answering my questions thoroughly and succinctly.

Dr Buchanan is an expert on foot structure, conditions, correctional aids, and athletic stresses, among other things. I found him to be personable, a good listener, efficient, down to earth. I felt comfortable with him. After wasting two months healing time with a well regarded podiatrist who proposed I spend $600 out of pocket on shock wave therapy, I visited Dr Buchanan. He proposed physical therapy, shoes with semi-rigid rocker bottoms, and OTC inserts, and said with those treatments I should get better in two months.

Great doctor

Dr Buchanan is a rarity, truly exceptional! He is extremely knowledgeable, patient and a phenomenal listener. We met a year prior to my osteotomy and he took the time to educate me with choices. After I made my decision for surgery we had a really convenient telemedicine appointment. At my pre-surgery meetings he had time again for Q&A. He listened to me about my concerns, I felt heard. He provided options for my procedure that my "Google research" did not provide. I'm so thankful because he had a less invasive option!!! Post procedure appointments involved detailed take home notes because I wouldn't has been able to remember it. Bottom line: he's love of all of educating my family about those bones, tendons and muscles in my foot put our mind at ease. Dr. Buchanan and the front office has gone above and beyond to be sure that my complete health and wellness have been made a priority.

I have been seeing Dr Buchanan for close to two years. I have had such good care. After seeing a local podiatrist for probably more serious needs, I was so glad to see a surgeon who really quickly designed a conservative course of care. I also had two bad falls and he definitely gave me the best care.

He was very kind and good listener, give good advice. His staff is wonderful also, I will have surgery from him soon.

The post surgery appointment at Dr Buchanan's office went well. He explained in detailed the procedure and provided valuable post surgery information that expedited my recovery. Evaluation and treatment of foot oain

Dr. Buchanan is with Nirschl Orthopaedic. He is very knowledgeable, personable, and an excellent surgeon. He went over my MRI with me, checked on me two days after my surgery, and gave me his surgical writeup. I also elected to have a healthmed (zoom) meeting with him, and he was very accommodating. My one complaint is that he keeps you waiting a very long time in his office. I waited an hour and a half for my most recent visit, and when he finally appeared there was no apology. I don't know if that is typical of all the doctors at Nirschl, but it is inexcusable in my opinion.

I had just had an accident and was a new patient. The great first impression was that Ms Lilly, Dr Buchanan’s assistant, truly helped get an appointment right away and was extremely kind and empathic. Then when I met Dr Buchanan he was as nice as her and so was the rest of the staff. I did not feel like a first time patient, I felt welcome and at home. Dr Buchanan takes time to listen and to explain. I am glad I was referred to his practice! Truly recommend it.

Highly recommend. Thorough, thoughtful and trustworthy. He diagnosed the injury, gave me a path forward towards recovery and the confidence that I’d get back to normal. He was compassionate, the visit was a conversation not a bunch of directives thrown at me (like many other divides who are just shuffling you through their appointment schedule) and I felt cared for by someone with high competence. The warm atmosphere he projected carried into the front office experience too. Truly the best medical and office experience I’ve ever had and even more remarkable that they can keep this up during the fear and anxiety attendant with a pandemic.

Dr. Buchanan is a great Doctor. He is extremely knowledgeable in the area of ankle and bones. He performed a fusion on me and will now be performing an ankle replacement. I trust his abilities and skills and have no doubt that the surgery will be a success. And it will be a success because he is the one doing the surgery. I saw Dr. Buchanan for the first time yesterday for a second opinion for my foot pain. From introducing himself to our elbow bump, I felt comfortable that I was with a caring, knowledgable doctor. He has a great bed side manner and listens to what you're saying. After being diagnosed with tendonitis, he prescribed exercises and a walking boot. It's been less than 24 hours and already can notice a slight difference. Wish I had found him a year ago. . . .he's awesome!

Dr. Buchanan is an excellent surgeon. He called the next day after my surgery to check on my well being and offered to answer any questions that I might have had. He was very thorough in assessing my injury and was able to get me into surgery the next day. I was reassured that his specialty is foot and ankle and had experience in treating traumatic injuries. I broke my foot on Saturday on Sunday Dr. Matt Buchanan came to the hospital on his day off a holiday weekend to do the surgery. He explained what he was going to be doing. He was very kind and knowledgeable. He made my difficult situation a positive.

Dr. Buchanan basically rebuilt my whole foot. It had become extremely deformed from a bunion as well as a hammertoe that was dislocated. People are amazed at my before and after pictures, and yet the recovery from this surgery was so easy compared to what friends had described for their more simple bunion surgery.
