Dr. Sumida did an outstanding job on my knee. Highly recommend him and his staff.

Totally rude, non-caring, rude to his staff, should not be practicing Medicaine! Denied need extra care twice when it was clearly needed. Preformed surgery that was supposed to solve a problem and made it worse.

Dr. Sumida displays a complete lack of empathy for patients when discussing potential surgery. Telling a patient to “settle down” after said patient is completely confused and doesn’t understand the process of going through an MRI image, or the process of surgery, and dismissing questions that they have, illustrates his unprofessionalism and poor attitude. I (mistakenly) told the nice nurses that he did not go over the MRI image with me, because I truly did not understand that pulling up an MRI and discussing it with me for three minutes before leaving the room was considered a full consultation. I thought we had to wait to receive the original X-rays before we fully discussed the MRI and the next steps regarding surgery. That was my understanding. Sumida then comes back in the room and tells me to "settle down," and "how dare I tell his staff that he didn't go through the MRI with me"...when I legitimately did not know that he considered his 3-minute consultation as "going over the MRI." I am used to doctors spending a bit more time with their patients. It is apparent that, in the eyes of Sumida, for patients to show any type of emotion or confusion is inexcusable. He was curt and accused me, implying that I was trying to cause trouble--when I truly did not understand that the consult was complete. This behavior was really rude and hurtful. The nurses and techs are EXTREMELY nice, and they redeem the place, but I will not be going back or trusting Sumida after his complete dismissal of my feelings and his mistreatment of me. Part of being a doctor includes having a good bedside manner, listening to a patient, explaining the process in full when they are confused, and not treating their questions as nuisances. Furthermore, telling someone to "settle down," when I honestly did not yell or display any inappropriate behavior...was extremely uncalled for on the part of Sumida. I think he saw my eyes water a little bit, so he thought that it was then appropriate to tell me to "settle down." I didn't know having any type of emotions regarding a painful ankle fracture was considered inappropriate in his eyes. Everyone is super friendly....felt like family on my first visit...I was so nervous about meeting Dr...he was extremely nice and made me very comfortable. I really appreciate no judgment here....at other places the Dr will judge your size...but not this Dr. He definitely listens to you...highly recommend. Thank you ????

I've used Dr. Sumida's services on two separate occasions. His treatment plan was conservative and perfect for me. He took time to explain the plan and answer my questions. I highly recommend him!

Dr Sumida is very compassionate. He takes time to explain your condition and treats conservatively until that no longer works. An excellent surgeon!

Dr. Sumida and Justin Edwards have taken excellent care of my family members and me throughout the years. Top notch ortho team for all surgical and non-surgical issues!

Dr. Sumida was first a friend and now my surgeon for anything orthopedic. After a couple of successful surgeries, Dr. Sumida has been my "go to" orthopedic doctor for over 20 years!

I would like to share my recent experience at parkridge bone and joint. For that matter all my experiences with Dr Sumida. He is a first rate doctor he is committed to serving and healing his patients. He listens to you like your issue really matters to him not just going through the motions like some doctors who shuffle you through like cattle. The Parkridge Bone and joint office is clean spacious and comfortable. The medical receptionist is bubbly and cheerful, as you know that means a lot. The staff is a reflection on Dr Sumida so you know their first rate. I could go on but listen take yourself or your loved ones here for care you will be glad you did. Dr. Sumida repaired my rotator cuff in June 2018 and I couldn't have asked for better results. Surgery went very well and my recovery went very well - even though I had to work at PT 3 times/week! He will definitely be the Dr I see for any additional orthopedic surgeries I may need in the future. His staff is very professional, but compassionate.

Every time I see Dr. Sumida he is the kindest man to me, it’s like he feels my pain and very sympathetic. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a good orthopedic. Just love that man.

It has been almost a year since Dr. Sumida did a total hip replacement on me. I feel I have recovered very well and doing almost everything as before surgery. I played Senior Olympic Badminton before surgery, and it is too much of a risk of dislocating my hip to play now. I will give up playing badminton to be pain free and able to do everything else.

Had a follow-up visit to orthoscopic surgery on knee. Received artificial lubricant injection. Got in for discussion and injection expeditiously. Injection went well with minimal discomfort. It has now been a couple of weeks knee function seems to be improving, along with discomfort being less.

Dr Sumida is very kind and concerned. He always listens and is always encouraging.

I called Parkridge Bone & Joint to see my former orthopedist, Dr. Chambless about a shoulder issue I was having, only to find out that he had retired. I was told that I could see Dr. Chambless' partner Dr. Sumida and I made my appointment. I find that it is important when selecting a physician, that bedside manner and the ability to listen to the patient is the most important options in selection. To my surprise, I found Dr. Sumida and his staff, warm, kind and very caring of my situation. I found that Dr. Sumida, although looking looking at my records on his computer, LISTENED TO WHAT I WAS SAYING TO HIM as I was telling him of post surgery concerns and he provided additional information to rectify my concerns. I will (and have) referred friends to Dr. Sumida and should I need him again in the future, I have Dr. Sumida on speed dial and will call him immediately!!! If you are in need of an EXCELLENT orthopedist, Dr. Mark Sumida and Parkridge Bone & Joint are the BEST!!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Sumida's for almost 20 years. He is very professional and always very kind and friendly to me. He's very thorough; he preferred to treat me conservatively on my issue with my Strained Achilles tendon. His entire office staff are very caring, also. I would highly recommend his office to anyone that is in need of a great orthopedic surgeon.

Dr Sumida has been my dr since @2003 have had many surgeries due to my severe arthritis shows real concern for my well being and kelp me working years longer than other drs said I would my hat is off to him

The staff were friendly and helpful. In and out in 35 to 40 min . Dr.Sumida set down and explained my test results with me . I did not haft to wait a week to get results. Very fast and friendly office .

When I fell in 1998, I was not sure I would ever walk normal again. Dr. Sumida did a great job getting me back on my feet!! Since that time, he has also operated on both my elbows, and right shoulder rotator cuff. He has operated on my wife's knee and I just made an appointment for our son. The office staff is very friendly and helpful. Dr.Sumida takes time to explain things to you .He gives you a plan on how to fix your problem. And he answers all my questions. They care about there patients. You are in and out in no time .

I strongly recommend Dr. Sumida, I have seen him for several different issues since 1998 (foot, elbows, shoulder). When my wife began having knee problems about 10 years ago, we knew right where to go, to Dr. Sumida. Recently, our 12 year old son began having pain in his feet, again, we knew right where to go, to Dr. Sumida. When I have had to have physical therapy, the physical therapists have great relationship and speak highly of Dr. Sumida. Dr. Sumida and his staff are excellent, they have always been polite, efficient, and very professional. So yes, I highly recommend Dr. Sumida!!!

We have used Dr Sumida for many years for many orthopedic injuries and surgeries for us, our children and our grandchildren. He is compassionate and caring and goes above and beyond what is expected. His main concern is his patients, a trait hard to find in today’s physicians.

I saw my family Dr. on Monday and got in to see Dr. Sumida on Friday the same week ! He was relaxed, did not hurry me.

I thought he was a very good dr. Until he put me through 3 weeks of therapy and a 10 cc shot in my hip which was useless. I got a second opinion and now have a total hip replacement and doing well. Dr. Sumida told me my hip was normal for someone my age. He cost me lots of extra pain and money. I would not recommended him.

Dr. Sumida recommend my wife have a foot mold made to insert in her shoe. No improvements in condition and no active outreach to determine next steps or remedy. Her condition remains the same. I took down to 1 star due to their inability to accept payment (when we tried) on more than one occassion (due to internal system issues) and then turning around sending it to collections without notice. We had to pay an additional penalty to the collection agency. Not right at all. The care at the time of service was fine but once the appointment was over... it was really over. There are better in the area! Due to his inability to provide & articulate required info to DOL, it cost my husband thousands! Our experience: poor care & consideration for patient well being due to this negligence. He still refuses to send us our copay of $305.00 he was reimbursed by WC for our bill, claims we owe him for a boot that was written off due to him not providing req. info to the ins. co. Last report to DOL contained inaccurate info. Dealing with him has been 2 yrs of hell!

I’m not quite sure how to satisfactorily thank Dr. Sumida for relieving the pain in my ankle. I “really” forgot how it felt to walk without burning pain. The surgery results have boosted my daily outlook on life. Prior to the surgery, I envisioned my remaining days limited to light walks with extreme pain. One and a half years after the surgery, I take extensive walks / hikes with little to no ankle pain—gaining strength and confidence daily, while increasing my physical activity. I may eve

Dr Sumida has now taken care of my mother, my wife, myself and my son. Every time we visit the office we are greeted by friendly staff, have a very short wait time, and feel the doctor takes the time to listen to us. We have had three operations between us, and all with terrific outcomes. I appreciate knowing we have a skilled and dependable orthopedic surgeon in town that is knowledgable in all areas of orthopedics so despite our individual issues, he knows how to care of us.

I've never left a review for a doctor before but felt it was necessary after Dr. Sumida saved my life. Several yrs ago I tripped over a hose in my yard and suffered a terrible ankle fracture. The ER gave me the orthopedic surgeon on call who operated on me. Since then my ankle has caused me significant pain, and the pins that were placed looked they were going to poke out of my skin. A friend told me to see Dr. Sumida, and he was able to fix everything. I am pain free and forever grateful.

Nobody wants to have pain or need surgery, but if you do I would recommend you see Dr. Sumida. I've had friends go to big groups, and they never see the Dr. After my surgery Dr. Sumida saw me for every visit not his assistant. It made a huge difference for me that the one who actually fixed my shoulder was the one who evaluated my recovery each and every time. I didn't feel like a number. I have been very impressed by an extremely efficient office experience (less than ten minutes of total waiting, including x-rays, nurse prep, and doctor evaluation) and Dr. Sumida's both professional and yet compassionate attitude. My experience has been that young doctors lack wisdom but have abundant passion and empathy while older doctors have much wisdom but lost the emotions. Dr. Sumida has both! Dr. Sumida is a great surgeon. He will not rush into surgery. He has treated my whole family---from broken ankle, knee replacements, torn rotator cuffs. He is a very professional & caring man. He is always continuing to try to learn & keep up with all the new techniques. I would highly recommend him.

I have been a patient of Dr. Sumida's for almost 20 years. He has taken care of my shoulder, knees, and my ankle, and I have had several surgeries. Each and every time he gives me his full attention and his genuine concern. He takes the time to explain my condition and the procedure he recommends, and he's always conservative in his approach which I very much appreciate. My parents, spouse, and children are also pts. We wouldn't see anyone else. We are so grateful for the exceptional care.

Dr. Sumida agreed to take my case after I had been injured, rather than helped, by another "doctor". Dr. Sumida reviewed the damage and explained my options for repair and the possible success or failure of the procedure. He planned and then made the surgical corrections to allow me to walk normally. Everything has gone above and beyond my expectations. Follow-up visits have been as important as before. I have not had to wait long for service and the staff is always caring and helpful.

Having multiple athletes in the family we have been in Dr Sumida's office many times. Each and every visit we have been treated with nothing less than the utmost respect and professionalism. From the front desk, to x-ray, and then into the room with the nurse I find them to be incredibly efficient and caring. I walked in about 8:30 stood at the counter and began filling out the paperwork, when Doug asked if I was there for my left foot. Doug took me to X ray and was finished in less than 10 min. After x rays I was told the exam room was available. I was in the exam room less than 5 minutes when Dr Sumida came in to review x rays and examine my foot. After the exam I was shown exactly what the problem was and given a plan which include physical therapy. The physical therapist called before lunch .

I appreciate this doctor and his team! I've been treated by him on two separate occasions and was impressed with his plan of care each time. He's very thorough; he preferred to treat conservatively and saved me much time, unnecessary discomfort and of course, money. He took time to explain my situation and asked if I had questions. I highly recommend him and his team for any osteo-related issue.

Dr. Sumida had operated on my left foot in 2002 and when I developed the same problem with my right foot recently, I knew who to call! Dr. Sumida is a skilled, caring surgeon who exudes a quiet confidence that immediately makes you feel that everything is going to go well. My surgery this time went far better than I could have hoped for and after six weeks, I can hardly find the scar. His office staff mirrors his image and were some of the best that I've encountered in any doctor's office. All in all, if you need to have something done surgically, Dr. Sumida is the one to see.
